3: College Life
-Morning-
Steven couldn't stop thinking about Spinel, about her personality, about her face when he got done talking to Pearl. And about her tears running down her cheeks. It almost kept him awake most of the night. What kept him up was the guilt that poured throughout his veins. He'd been talking all the shit he could about her and it turns out there may be more to her story than he thought.
The abundant sunlight had burned Steven's eyes and awoken him. Spinel was still on her side clutching her necklace pendant and her face was littered with black tear markings.
'I wonder how long she's been crying...' Steven thought as he climbed out of bed and got into the warm shower. He considered himself lucky, knowing some colleges didn't have bathrooms connected to them: they were usually with a public shower room where everyone goes in at once. After drying his hair he looked into his planner and saw he should be in his first class, Ethics of Therapy (is that a class?), in 25 minutes. That would give him enough time to hang out with Peridot a bit since she's in the class next to him, possibly grab some donuts and if there's time left check his messages from his fam, which he was sure was filled with concerns from the worrisome Pearl.
'Classic mom...'
*knock knock knock!*
"Huh?"
*knock knock knock!*
"Steven! Wake your ass up, it's time to turn from dumbasses to half-intelligent people!"
*knock knock kno-*
Before they could knock anymore, Steven beat them to the punch. He smiled as he saw Lapis, wearing a white tea with a blue hoodie wrapped around her waist with a hand on her hip. "Bout time you woke up, I thought I was gonna have to kick this bitch down." She joked, though there was a high chance she meant it. That scared him.
"Lapis! I'm shocked you stopped fucking Peri long enough to come over here," Steven remarked back, earning an eyeroll and a playful - yet painful - punch to the arm, making him wince from her strength.
"Keep saying stuff like that, you're just mad you haven't been laid yet, virgin," she said sarcastically. Steven started to blush at her remark, she noticed this and started laughing. "I was just joking! Besides don't feel bad..." She smirked. "I heard you got a girl room-mate. She may be easy, make sure to wear some protection though, ya hear?"
His blush had deepened and Lapis was still laughin her ass off. He knew she meant no harm but it still made him nervous with all her sex talk. He hadn't even held a girl's hand yet and she's giving him the talk. Then again, she's older than him, and like an older sister. While Amethyst was at her own college, she had took her place.
He tried to brush off the conversation. "S-so...Lapis. What brings you over here anyways?" He asked, still a tad bit pink.
"Well..." she grinned taking out 2 shirts, one pastel yellow, the other pastel blue. On both were big bold letters inside of a diamond saying FAIRHEART UNIVERSITY on the front. On the back was F U. "Check it out, they were giving these away and I snagged a few. And guess what? If you say F U individually it'll be like you're flicking someone off!"
"Of course that'll be your favorite part of it, anything not kid friendly is in your favor. Did you really come here just to give me a shirt?" He said, taking the yellow one.
"No," answered Lapis. She threw the blue one towards Spinel. "I brought one for your girlfriend too."
"She's not my-"
"I actually came to get you so you can hang with me and Peri. We have a while before classes anyway so why not?"
'Huh...I mean, I guess I'm an adult now. I can handle risking getting in trouble with Lapis, right?'
"Thanks for the offer Lapis, but I think I'm gonna head straight to health science," He told her.
"Yeah, right, you're not going anywhere until you and I get some cappucinos or something. Unless..." A mischievous smirk spread across her face."You wanna walk your girlfriend to class~?"
His face flushed back into a cherry mess. "Lapis! She's right there!"
"Good, lemme ask her how she rates your pullout game," she said in a tempted motion, about to do it. Steven stopped her before she could wake the sleeping devil.
"Lapis, stop it. She hates me already, you asking her that will get me dead and my body will NEVER be seen again. You may not know it but that's a pure she-devil. It's like the Devil had a kid and sent her here and that' not a good thing. So, if you go over there, it's your funeral."
"Ok fine, I won't tell her you have a small weenie, ok? You still gotta hang with me though, I've wasted 9 minutes tryna get you to come." She finally said, claiming her victory as Steven sighed in defeat.
"Sure...just no more talking about her or my...thing. That's getting disturbing...."
Lapis laughed again and punches him arm once more. "Sure. Meet us at the cafe later. Sayanara, smalls."
'Smalls...? Oh-'
He covered his face as his blush got deeper, Lapis snickering on her way out. Once she left he quickly shut the door as he hoped his blush would die out. "*sigh of relief* Thank God that's over..." he muttered to himself, looking at Spinel's direction - well, if she was even there. She was nowhere in sight so he just assumed she had gotten out of bed to get ready. Whenever that was, he hoped he didn't say anything to trigger her. Somehow he knew he probably did since Lapis was here. His best bet was that he'd die after Lapis goes missing.
'Eh, I'll visit her grave later,' He thought to himself as he grabbed his phone, heading to meet Lapis and Peridot. 'Welp, time to try and catch up to her...' He looked at the time on his phone, and sure enough his chances of being late was greater. Yeah, Lapis is gonna pay for that later.
'I'm gonna murder her later.'

Meanwhile...
"So Steven, I heard you got a girlfriend."
That was the first thing he had heard from Peridot once he reached the cafe, and he hated it, not that it was unexpected. Knowing how Lapis was he pretty much predicted this happening. He just wished she didn't.
"Spinel isn't my girlfriend," He corrected her, rolling his eyes and sitting down.
"Yet-" Lapis coughed, earning a chuckle from Peridot.
"So that's her name? Spinel? Huh, you always get to the people whose names are those of gemstones, Steven. I liked your taste," Peridot said casually. "But in all seriousness, spill the tea!"
"Huh?"
"Tell us what she's like! Lappy told me that you called her she-devil or something. Is she one of those biker-type girls that likes to stuff nerds in lockers?" It wasn't noticeable, but Peri was nervous when saying that last part. Not that she wrong.
"I mean...she scares me a lot if that counts. She kicked my ass the second I moved in, but I do know she's at least Latina judging by how she cussed me out in Spanish. I dunno much, but you're onto something with the 'biker-type' thing, Peri. She sure does like black and pink." Steven explained while thinking about how she decorated her side of the room. It gave Hotel Transylvania vibes in all honesty. Though it was still good-looking.
The bluette gave him a mischeivous smirk. "You know Steven, it's usually those type that-"
"Lapis! Stop with the sex jokes-!"
"You just know I'm right," She laughed. Steven was blushing all over again. He honestly hated how she made those jokes, and hated moreso that she may be right.
"I don't even know her like that, and besides you'd be lucky if she didn't hear you earlier with those kind of jokes."
"Hey, you're the one that called her a she-devil."
Steven groaned at her in annoyance. "That's not the point! I'm pretty sure me calling her a she-devil isn't as bad as you making those kind of jokes about her." He told the bluette, hoping to win this. Sadly, she had a comeback ready for him.
"Alright, I'll quit for now. Though you shouldn't feel guilty, I know you're getting ideas from my jokes." She teased. Peridot, her face in a book, tried to hold in a laugh.
"This is why I didn't wanna come here. I just knew you'd say something like that," Steven said in a fake offensive tone, crossing his arms. "Besides, I'm sure you're trying to come up with ideas of your own, right? I take it all those tricks you use on Peridot are getting old."
This time, it was Lapis that was blushing, and tried putting on her best offended expression. "Wow, meanie. And to think I was gonna pay for your coffee, you can forget about that mister."
Steven laughed as he got up and put a five on the table. "Whatever. I'll catch you guys after classes."
"Alright, just know just for that I'm gonna get you back later."
He rolled his eyes playfully. "I'm looking forward to that."
And that, my Kommun, was a bunch of cap he'd regret spittin' later.

The day dragged on to what seemed like forever. Ethics was pretty simple, though that was mainly because he was dedicated to helping others and mentality which is why he wanted to get a Master's in Health Science. Out of all of his classes health related, his favorite was psychological theories. To him it just gave a better insight of his future job and the 6 grand theories (they were focusing on Ecological at the moment). Other than the slow day and Lapis making the occasional dirty joke when they met, Steven overall LOVED college.
It was like his home away from home. He met some great people who were interested in the same things he was, and even got their numbers (did I mention most of them were girls?). Better yet the professors were cool, even though they weren't soft enough to let their students get away with anyway. Better yet he got to have more freedom than he did in high school.
Now, to find a fictional character to be the 'therapist' for that has been through a lotta trauma in their life for his assignment.
(Also, for the record, I think they actually do that for psychology assignments in college. Im just not getting into HS so bare with me here)
It was clearly night when he made it out of the main building with Lapis and Peridot by his side, Peridot talking about the agricultural and engineering majors she's working on and how one day she's gonna discover self-done homework while Lapis was yawning and on her phone.
"The professor told me earlier today that he sees good things coming my way and I may have a chance in politics," Peridot explained. "Jokes on him, I don't have time to worry about a populaion of over 300 million when I'm focusing on creating new devices that make it easier to track criminals of all types and make sure the population of those types of people declines drastically." She looked over towards Lapis, who was smiling at her phone. "Lapis? Are you-"
"Yeah, the criminal population is way overpopulated BUT check this out!" She shoved her phone into the blonde's face. "There's a frat party going on tonight and the whole campus is invited!"
"Are you serious? It's literally our first day on campus." Steven said in disbelief.
Lapis shrugged. "Well, this guy's sister is a freshman like the rest of us and since she's a huge party girl he wants her to have as much fun as possible. Just think about it you guys! Drinks, loud music, staying up all night, and letting loose. Besides, why not get welcomed to campus by having an awesome party to celebrate? I'm shocked I even made it this far, and you guys need some time to have fun. Even nerds deserve to be happy, ya know."
Well she was right about Steven needing to have fun. Today was stressful, being into psychology isn't so easy and fun. But then again, he didn't wanna get distracted from his studies...
"Guys, I know the profs didn't give you assignments due the next day, and I know you're exhausted from today. Besides, I wanna see Peridot without those glasses when she's partying."
"Sorry, Lapis, I have to study my calculus 1 and Physics notes. I wanna be prepared incase there's a pop quiz, you know," Peridot rejected.
"Yeah and I have an assignment for my Psychology Theories thing..."
"Come on guys...." Lapis whined. "Peri, you can study that stuff anyday. And Steven, I'm pretty sure that thing isn't due tomorrow. Just relax for once and let loose. I have assignments in sculpture and foreign languages but you don't see me getting all uppy. Besides everyone else is going I don't see why you can't."
'I guess I can stay out for a few hours...'
"I guess I will, but not too long," Steven finally agreed.
"Nice!" Lapis cheered, looking at Peri with a smirk. "2 against 1 Peri."
She looked down while thinking hard.
"How about this...I'll stay by your side and I'll keep those pervs away from you. I'll even tell you if the punch is spiked. Plus I'll make sure to get you back to the dorm if it's too much. So, whaddya say?"
The blonde groaned loudly and rolled her eyes. "Fine, you clod, I'll go."
"One small step for Lapis, one giant leap for Steven and my wittle Peri! Come on you guys, it starts at 9:30 and I wanna make sure you guys don't look like your moms were Karens." Lapis said.
"Nothing to revealing, right?"
"Of course not Peri. Come on, I'm still tame unlike majority of this school. There's a college plaza around here so I'm gonna take Peri there since I know everything she packed is 'Intellectual school girl' or along those lines. Wanna come with us Steven?"
He shook his head. "Nah, I'll find something." He told her. "Where's the fraternity house anyway?"
"Don't worry bout it, it's a few minutes from here. Who knows? Maybe you'll be a frat too~"
"Please don't jinx it..." Steven winced as Lapis left with a knowing smirk on her face.
'That girl is gonna be the death of me.'
* * *
Later that night
*beep beep*
"Steven get out here!" Lapis yelled into her phone with Steven on the line. "We're gonna be late."
"I am, I am. Just wait a second."
"How close are you to getting out here?"
"Try the last flight. I'm coming out.'
"Is it too late to go back in our dorm room?" Peridot asked nervously, but not because she was going to a fraternity party; it was because it was windy and she didn't have on a jacket. "It's nice and warm there."
"You didn't bring your jacket?"
"Well damn, Lapis, it wasn't so windy the last time we came out here!"
Before she could reply to the outburst, Lazuli's attention went towards Steven, who wasn't in his usual star shirt and jeans. He was instead in casual frat attire; chino pants, a pastel red polo and Converse. However, the one thing he kept was his signature varsity jacket. If Lapis and Peri weren't already banging each other they'd be all over him.
"Well hey there Mr. Handsome, where've you done with my friend Steven?" Lapis teased as Steven chuckled at her sarcasm.
"He'll be back soon. I'll give you a call when he's back," he replied back. Steven admired how the girls in front of him looked, Peridot wearing a plaid skirt, statement necklaces with her glasses clipped on her shirt, and an off-the-shoulder top. It was perfect for her because it had the sophisticated-yet-fun vibe she really needed. Lapis on the other hand kept it edgy, with ripped jeans and black peekaboo top (for those who don't know what that is, here's a pic)
(thats for those who dont know what it was, imagine it being black and you have Lapis' look)
"You guys aren't looking bad yourselves, especially you Peri, I always thought you'd be in the schoolgirl uniform for the rest of your life," Steven complimented teasingly. Peridot playfully rolled her eyes
"Whatever you clod, let's just get this over with."
"Now you're talking!" Lapis pumped up, twirling her keys around her finger. "Frat house, here we come!"
