White has remained the most popular automobile colour for South Korean consumers, one such white car stopped in front of Hodeong elementary school. It was 18 minutes past the school timings. Barely any students were left back at school.
His eyes scanned the premises for the particular kid he made an unusual visit to the school for. Once he spotted him, he was quick to pursue him. "Dohun-ah, hello!" Seokjin cutely waved at Dohun.
"I've dropped Dohun off at school. 'Ho-deon-g Ele-men-tary scho-ol', please remember the name." Jungkook pronounced each syllable separately to eliminate the scope of confusion. "His school gets over at 12:30 pm, reach there on time."
"But," Namjoon slightly raised his hand out of a habit to present his suggestions. "You should go 15 minutes past the time. At 12:30, many parents would come to pick their children, some might know Jungkook well so to not get anyone suspicious of your appearance, avoid people."
"Ah, Namjoon is a genius!" Hoseok's shoulder raised as he leaned back and clapped for Namjoon like a super supportive fan.
"Hello," Dohun formally greeted back the unknown adult and continued to wait for his dad. He was standing near the huge entrance door adorned with fancy letters spelling "Hodeong", all of his friends had already left with their parents.
"You're waiting for your dad? He was busy so your mom asked me to pick you up today." Seokjin delivered the lines he hastily prepared in the car before meeting Dohun, speaking every lie with professionalism. "I'm your mother's friend."
"Don't keep mentioning his dad, take Suelhye's name more to keep Jungkook on the safer side." Namjoon mentioned another important pointer for Seokjin to note down in his notepad.
"Ah, Namjoon is so cool!" Hoseok remarked, his love and support for the former increasing by the day.
Dohun just nodded along, getting in the car appeared to be a better option than standing alone in a deserted area. "Thank you." Dohun bowed before wearing the seatbelt.
"You're cute." Seokjin ruffled Dohun's hair causing a small smile to spread across the younger's face. He proceeded to shove in the keys and start the engine. The car was in motion and Dohun turned his head to look out of the window.
"Ahjussi, why does this window have a huge hole?" Dohun carefully traced along the taped edges of the cracks. The car was otherwise pretty chic but the crack was huge and debasing.
"Uh, that?" Seokjin rolled his eyes while bringing back the memories of the incident. "I have a friend, tall and buff. He was 'out of his senses' and tried to break through the window with his head."
"It must have hurt his head." Dohun ducked and held his head as if imagining himself in the same situation.
"His picture with a bandaged head is the icon of our group chat." Seokjin laughed while thinking about the aforementioned picture. "It looked like his soul left his body."
"Is my mother on that group chat too?" Dohun asked out of curiosity. The car stopped at a red signal.
"Yes, of course, she's our friend too." Seokjin's heartbeat slightly raised, not because of Dohun's questions but because he looked directly at a CCTV camera.
"There are gonna be a lot of CCTV cameras on our way, I'm scared." Seokjin nervously chewed the end of his straw, looking at Namjoon for help.
"Don't worry, our main motive of this plan is to make Jungkook the superhero so we'll try not to get the cops involved." Namjoon paused to sip on his iced latte without answering the second obvious question that rose. "In case Seulhye forces you to get in touch with a police station, talk to this guy." He took out his phone and zoomed in on a specific photo of him with a guy in casual clothes. "His name is Park Jimin, I met him at a baseball match about a year ago. He's still a rookie but cases like yours are handed over to rookies only."
"Whatcha say, Hobi?" Seokjin looked at the mentioned guy to get his opinions too.
"Uhm... I want a sprite?"
"Ahjussi, why didn't you get this repaired?" Dohun's finger found the peeled off edge of the tape, itching to peel the entire tape.
"The guy who broke this couldn't pay me back instantly so your mom suggested an idea, we can keep that group icon for as long as I don't get this glass replaced." It wasn't Seulhye but Jungkook who suggested that and Namjoon couldn't pay back instantly because he spent all of his money on alcohol and appetizers.
"Then how long has it been?" Dohun turned his head to look at Jin and questioned.
"Two years, lol." Saying out a text slang sounded cringe but as long as it fitted the context, nothing mattered more. The rest of the ride was rather silent until Seokjin pulled up to the parking lot of a convenience store. "Dohun-ah, do you wanna eat something?"
"An ice cream, please, but don't tell mom. Papaito and I love ice creams!" Dohun's eyes brightened with joy.
"Papa—what?" Seokjin's head was filled with question marks at the mention of a completely foreign word.
"Papaito, that's Spanish for dad, my papaito taught me this." Dohun swung his index finger with the rhythm of his words.
Seokjin's upper lip curled in disdain. "I'll go, get ice cream for you, stay here, don't go anywhere." He said before closing the door and walking away. "The fuck does Jungkook teaches this boy." He said to himself. The walk to the convience store was unusually long, he had to park the car in a secluded area to be in the blind spot of the store's CCTV cameras.
He took the moment of solitary to call Jungkook and discuss the progress of the plan. "Hello, how's Dohun? Did you pick him up carefully?" Jungkook spoke first.
"Yeah, he's perfectly fine and I'm not careless," Seokjin said with scorn while picking a pack of his favourite snacks. "In fact, we're clicking well together. I'm buying ice cream for him right now."
"Oh, don't get the one with nuts, he's allergic to nuts," Jungkook told Seokjin and he rolled his eyes before dropping the ice cream he picked first. "Otherwise, Dohun's eating habits are pretty normal, he can eat anything but please take care of his digestion."
"How am I supposed to do that!?" Seokjin stood thunderstruck after hearing the younger's words.
"With kids, you have to do all sorts of things," Jungkook said in a low teasing voice.
"Yah! Don't expect me to do anything about his digestion!" He shouted in the middle of an aisle, passer-bys giving him awkward and disgusted glares.
"You took it upon yourself, now don't weasel out," Jungkook said in a persuasive tone, very well aware of his effect on Seokjin.
He brought the microphone closer to his mouth to whisper in the words loud and clear. "I swear to God, Jungkook, I'll leave Dohun right here if you forced me to help him poo—"
"Don't! I'm just kidding." Jungkook gave up quicker than he thought he would. "Just make him rice porridge whenever he has stomachaches. Also, he sometimes pukes at night so please comfort him and let him sleep with you."
"Enough jokes, Jungkook." Seokjin carelessly said on the phone before moving towards the billing counter.
"No, that happened last night too." Jungkook heard a long wail from the other end.
"I'm gonna cry!" Seokjin said loudly, earning a worried glare from the cashier. "Oh, I won't, I'm talking to a friend." He explained to the cashier before paying.
"Dohun is a well-mannered child, you might have noticed that already." Jungkook was certain about his words.
"Yeah, definitely. His papaito taught him good habits and a cringey word." Seokjin scoffed.
"It's so cool," Jungkook whined and covered his ears out of embarrassment.
"No." His cool word received a cold reply from Seokjin. "Anyways, I'm going back to the car, I'll talk to you later."
"I wanna talk to Dohun..." Jungkook expressed his wish. Seokjin started to think of a quirky reply, his car was in his sight already, once he neared the car, his mind blacked out. "Jin hyung?"
"You obviously cannot talk to Dohun, he's kidnapped, remember?" Seokjin couldn't get his wits together, each passing moment made his heart race faster. "I'll talk to you later, I'm getting inside my car now." He didn't wait for a response and abruptly ended the call.
His eyes quickly inspected the vehicle while dialling Namjoon and Hoseok's number. "Yea?" Namjoon replied first, followed by some sound Hoseok made to signify his presence.
"Guys," Seokjin started, the ice cream in the polybag already starting to drip through the little hole. "Dohun..."
"What happened?" Namjoon asked with his voice hinting worry. Hoseok's body stiffened, he pressed the phone closer to his ear, anticipating to hear Seokjin's voice. A bolt of anxiety rushed through their bodies.
"He's not here." Seokjin let out laboured puffs of breath. "And there's a note on the car window."
Hello, sir.
We're very sorry to inform you that due to our poor financial state, we had to kidnap your child. Please don't panic or waste your time looking around for him. Once again, we're terribly sorry, hope you'll understand :)
