Up In Smoke
Based on the song "burning house" by cam please watch the vid and then read.
"Link!" I called out. "Wait up!" I was running up a steep hill with my husband who wanted to show me a surprise at the top.
"Not much farther!" He called back. I slumped down and panted.
"Oh come on Fawn!" He yelled. "Hurry up or I'll come down there and tickle you!" He joked.
I stared at him wide eyed. Tickling was my weakness. So, I gathered my strength and climbed up the rest of the slope.
Atop the hill was an old abandoned house. I immediately recognized it.
"Our club house!" I exclaimed, being reminded of all the adventures Link and I had in that house as kids.
"Let's go inside." He suggested, taking my hand.
We ran into the decaying house. I looked around and saw many faded paintings we made hanging in the walls.
"I'm going upstairs." He stated.
I glanced at the rickety stairs, knowing that they couldn't hold up for much longer.
"Are you sure?" I asked warily. "Those stairs don't look sturdy."
"Relax." He cooed. "I'll be fine."
"Okay." I huffed as I watched him climb the stairs and safely make it to the top.
I walked into the kitchen. Packages of opened animal crackers and fruit snacks laid sprawled out on the floor. Everything in the house looked dry and dirty, except one thing; the kitchen light switch.
The switch was clean and showed no sign of rusting. Without thinking, I flipped the switch. Nothing happened for a few seconds and then sparks came from the lamps creating an open flame.
I screamed in terror as the flames grew larger and larger by the second making its way out the kitchen door.
I managed to find a way out of the kitchen and to the stairs.
"Link!" I called. No answer. "Link!" I screamed even louder. Still no answer.
I ran up the stairs and into the upstairs room. The fire hadn't reached the room yet, but I knew it wouldn't be long until it did.
I saw link sitting in a corner with his arms wrapped around his knees. He gasped when he saw me and opened his arms. I ran into them.
"Link you're okay!" I said, muffled by his sweater.
"Of course I am, I'm just glad you're okay."
I turned around to see the flames at the door, inching closer and closer. I sat beside him and laid my head on his chest. He wrapped his arm around me holding me close and laid his head on mine. We both shut our eyes and pressed closer and closer and the two of us went up in smoke.
