Villain Appreciation

Now don't get me wrong, especially with the title LOL. This has been a thought of mine for some time now, so lemme just explain. Again, keep in mind that I'm only sharing my personal opinions so please be RESPECTFUL. I am in no way romanticizing this or whatever, like I said I'm only SHARING.

Okay, so, one of the biggest reasons why I think a lot (not all) people like or root for *FICTIONAL* villains so much is because of their backstories. And listen, of course I know that it REALLY depends which villain you love cuz granted not all of them are the best. Some of them, even as a youngster, are just straight up toxic or power hungry annoying bitches for no reason whatsoever and they have done way too many evil deeds that are so horrible and disgusting (like rape) they should definitely be held accountable and it's extremely hard or even impossible to forgive them.

But let's look at Gotham, just as an example (it's okay if you don't watch the show I'll just try to explain it as much as I can without giving out any spoilers). It's a DC/Batman story. Well, it's an origin story really. It features a young Bruce Wayne portrayed by the wonderful David Mazouz, waaay before he became what we all know now as Batman. Along with this, as you guys can already probably guess, some of Batman's most iconic allies and enemies also make their much younger appearances.

Throughout the series we see all of these characters, good and bad, interact with each other and go through a shit ton of highs and lows in their lives. It's also a really fresh and new take of the canon Batman plotline/universe, so that's a plus.

Anywhore, so as we start to watch all of this stuff go down, we also see a bit more about the villains' backstories. I'm not a comic geek, but I still do know that not ALL of the villains' backstories are completely accurate. But whatever, let's get right back to the topic sowwy it's an amazing show I highly recommend it and the cast is so lovely and talented ♡♡♡

One REALLY good example is Oswald Cobblepot (MY LURVEEEEE). Of course everyone has their personal thoughts about him. Some love him, some hate him. However, I think that no one can deny that his backstory is rather heart pulling and Robin Lord Taylor's performance of the character is absolutely riveting. Due to this, Oswald has gained quite the amount of sympathy from fans and a lot (including myself) just wants this notorious and incredibly devious screechy little bird to succeed... At least as much as possible, anyways.

No person, real or fictional, is perfect and that's obviously natural and okay. Even the heroes, just like on Gotham. But PERSONALLY for me, I've just always thought that villains are a bit more interesting and it's always fun to write them and shiz. A lot of them are just misunderstood and has more depth to them than we initially thought, while some are a complex yet intriguing mix of being both good AND bad.

I love and admire heroes, of course. But there's a reason why villains came to be who they are (most of them, anyways). And at one point in time, some of them were even normal and good people until something totally drastic happened in their lives and changed them.

Listen, I know that NOTHING is an excuse to be a right douchebag. That's bad and I don't encourage it and I'll surely kick a bastard's sorry ass if anyone ever dares to bully me or my loved ones. But these villains are broken, some way beyond repair which I'm sure a lot of people in the world today can relate or at least empathize to in some shape or form or other. And sometimes--SOMETIMES--it's kinda hard to put the blame on these very villains. Some do redeem themselves and become better, but one can't help but think that they deserve better. If only they were treated fairly and kindly like everyone SHOULD be treated, then they MAY never have turned out to be so rotten and there's one less problem.

But villains are what makes villains...VILLAINS (if that makes any sense xD). Also, I have a pretty dark and twisted mind/sense of humour (I'M NOT EVIL OR ANYTHING I'M JUST SAYIN!). So really, when you get down to it, villains make things more...well, INTERESTING and amusing and let's be honest a lot of villains are hella badass (or even hot hahaha).

And also, what's a story or a hero without someone who's so good at being bad?
