Chapter 31

Hello, it's me, Wolf-chan! I have confirmed that the next chapter will be the last unless for some reason, I get another idea along the way of writing it. Enjoy this chapter for now though!

"Add...Add wake up," a voice called to him. He opened eyes to find himself in a very unfamiliar place. He was in a house that didn't belong to him lying on a bed that didn't also belong to him. Add's eyes adjusted to the lighting in the room. "Good, you're awake now. Did you rest well," the same voice said. Add looked to the side to find a woman sitting in a chair next to the bed that he lay in. This wasn't just any woman though. This lady was his mother.

Add looked at her in shock as he sat himself up in the bed. His mother smiled at him. "You've grown up since the last time I saw you haven't you," she said, the same warm smile remained on her face.

"Mother?" Add said with watery eyes, still not sure whether or not it was his mother sitting before him or not.

"Yes, my dear, it's me. I hear you go by Add now," she said with a laugh. Add only nodded at her. He wanted to hug his mother, but he felt that something was off. Something wasn't right. He was forgetting something very important.

"Mother, why am I here? How did I get here?" he asked her. Her smile faded a little and she looked at him sadly.

"You died, dear. You came here to me afterwards," she said. As soon as she said those words, all of his memories came rushing back to him. It was too much for him to handle all at once and Add found himself unable to breathe for a moment. He felt dizzy and could barely keep his balance. His mother quickly placed her hand on his back to keep him from falling. "I expected you to react that way," she said once Add regained balance.

"How long have I been here? How long have I been gone from the world," Add asked his mother.

"Not long at all actually," she said. There was an awkward silence between them and neither knew how to break it without making the situation worse. "I'm proud of you, Add. I can tell that you researched nasods just like your father and I did. I'm sure you led a very productive life," his mother said.

"Yeah, I guess. I had help though," Add said as he thought about (y/n). He froze at the thought of her and held back his urge to cry.

"What happened? Did I say the wrong thing?" Add's mother questioned him worriedly.

"No, I just...I wasn't ready to die yet. I left someone behind that was important to me," Add said. His mother then hugged him, and for a few seconds, Add felt like a kid again. He was comforted by the hug and felt that everything would be okay now that his mother was there. He'd actually dreamed of a day like this one when he was still a child.

"You'll be alright. How about you tell me about this person. Maybe that'll help you feel better," she told him as she let him go.

Add thought for a moment to see where he might begin telling his mother about (y/n). "Her name is (y/n)," he said because why not start off by telling her name.

"Wait the person's a she? Did you like her?" his mother said happily.

"Mom!" Add said, caught off guard by her sudden questions.

"Well did you?" she said with hope in her eyes.

"Yes...I did," Add said looking away from his mother as his face burned from having admitted such a thing.

"Okay continue. I'll stop pestering you now," she spoke with a laugh.

Add sighed. "Well, she has powers and she's been living with me since she was seven. Since I couldn't leave the library where we lived for more than a week, she would go on long distance missions for me and help me with my nasod research. I wanted to tell her before I left, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. Now I'm starting to regret a lot of my life choices," Add said. Frustration was making its way into his thoughts.

"Why couldn't you leave the library for a week?" his mother asked him.

"It put a curse on me so I can't be away from it more than a week or it'll kill me. It's how I died," Add said. His mother seemed shocked by this.

"What made you stay away from the library for more than a week?!" she asked.

"(Y/n) did. I destroyed an entire city to save her. It took me three days to find her because her kidnappers left false trails behind. I fought them for an entire day and used energy beyond my limits. That could be the reason I died so early. I would have done it over again to save her, but seeing her sad because of my death tore me apart," Add explained.

"I think you deserve a second chance to make things right between the two of you. In fact, I can feel it coming," his mother said.

"How do you know that?" Add asked skeptically. He trusted his mother but he wasn't so sure about her claim.

"A mother's intuition, and also, you're kind of glowing right now," she said with a smile. "I want to meet your girlfriend one day Add, but I want you to live with her for as long as you can," his mother said.

"She isn't my girlfriend!" Add said defensively. His mother just shrugged not believing him even in the slightest.

"Be good, my child," his mother told him as she embraced him in a hug. "I love you my dear."

"I love you too mother," Add said back. It was painful to leave her behind, but he knew that if he stayed, he wouldn't be able to see (y/n) again. He closed his eyes and waited for whatever would take him back to reality. He found himself still wrapped in a warm embrace and opened his eyes to find (y/n) sleeping next to him. She was clinging to his shirt and had her head resting on his chest.

"(Y/n)," he whispered. He sat up, purposely waking (y/n) up from her sleep.

She was startled by this so Add hugged her. "Add?!" she said.

"You saved me didn't you? But how?" he asked as he stroked her hair.

"I didn't...Mitsu did. She...she gave her life for yours," (y/n) said sadly. Add could tell that she was about to cry so he hugged her a little tighter to reassure her.

"I know that lying cat meant a lot to you, but I'm also glad to be back here with you," he said.

"You are? But why? I'm the reason you died in the first place," (y/n) said as some tears fell down her face. She seemed so fragile to Add in this condition. Add didn't like her to be this way, so he decided to do what he should have done before he died.

"I...have something important to tell you," he said. (Y/n) looked at him curiously, her sad expression seeming to disappear.

"What?" she asked. Add couldn't bring himself to look at her while speaking. His pride could take any more hits so if he was rejected, he'd likely fall into a long lasting sadness.

"I love you," he whispered. Add got no response from (y/n) and he worried that he might have chosen the wrong time to tell her something like that. He turned to look at her and was met by her sparkly eyed gaze.

"You really mean it don't you," she said happily. (Y/n) leaned forward and gave him a kiss on his cheek in reply to his confession. She giggled at him a little before saying, "You idiot. Why didn't you let me know sooner." Add was happy that she felt the same way.

"Where to now?" she asked him (Y/n) radiated her happiness as she spoke.

"We go back to the library. This time, we destroy it," Add said.

"Sounds awesome!" (y/n) said as she got up and released the barrier around them that Add had just noticed. She turned in order to leave but she didn't seem to know which way to go.

"Add which way is..." she was saying as she turned around but she was cut off. Add had kissed her and she hadn't protested either. Add pulled away from her and smiled at her shocked and flustered expression.

"I've wanted to do that for a while now," he said. (Y/n) just stared at him for a bit and then busted out into laughter. Add couldn't tell what was so funny but he really didn't care. (Y/n) was happy and that was all that mattered.
