(Y/n) and Add both now sat on the couch. They were both staring off into space and they were both contemplating how they would begin the tale of their earlier years. (Y/n) glaced at Add only to see him looking at her as well so she kept her gaze on him and he did the same. "Should I go first or should you?" she asked, breaking the awkward silence between them.
"I don't really know. I guess you should go first," Add replied.
"Okay...then I guess I'll start off by telling you who my parents really are," (y/n) said as she averted her gaze to the floor. Add stayed silent, signaling for her to continue and so she did. "You might think this is absolutely insane but one of my parents is a nasod. My mother was actually and my father isn't even my father. They adopted me for experimental purposes," she said quietly. (Y/n) looked up at Add who held a shocked expression on his face.
"I was only two when it happened so I don't really know who my parents are. All I do know is that they were looking for me. I know for a fact that they are because they left the orphanage a note. I carried that note all of the time even though I couldn't read it at the time."
"I always had to ask for it to be read but on it, my parents explained that they would be leaving me there only for a little while. They fell into hard times and would be back for me in a year. Well, the orphanage didn't care. They treated me quite poorly because they didn't like the fact that they had to take care of me even though I had a family to go to. The other children hated me too. That's why when the man I call my father showed up, I was the only one offered to him. The orphanage staff knew that he planned on forcing me to do the work of an adult. They allowed him to take me anyway. All I was ever able to learn was about nasods. I learned math and other subjects as well but only for the purpose of research," (y/n) said.
Her eyes were starting to water but she faught back the urge to cry. Just thinking about the next part made her sad. "I had to write a full report on my findings every day when I turned four. If I didn't complete it or if it wasn't thorough enough, I was locked in a dark room for almost a week without food or water. It was awful but it made me better at researching."
"Lucky for me, I was smart and I was able to slowly plan my escape day by day. In fact, I got so smart that I often outsmarted them. Whenever I could do that, they punished me for it. I was tired of it so I was going to put my escape plan into play. Unfortunately, my nasod mother found out about my plan."
"She found the flash drive that I hid the copied research on and tried to destroy it. I didn't allow her to. I protected it with my life. When my father found out, he was furious. At the time, I was six so he figured that he could get rid of me and find some other children to replace me," (y/n) said. She couldn't hold in her tears anymore. They silently slid down her face as she held her head down.
"So many insults. So many beatings. Then it all ended when I was thrown from the roof of the building we lived in. I was lucky to be alive. It was then that I crawled to an abandoned nasod factory and fused nasod nanotechnology into my blood. It saved my life. I ended up turning in my so called parents but I was pulled along with them for studying nasods. At first, they refused to tell the truth, that they'd forced me into the feild of nasod studies. It wasn't like I cared anyway."
"Despite their harsh treatment, I found that studying nasods was quite interesting and I decided to escape so that I could continue my studies. My parents escaped with me and tried killing me afterwards but they failed. I lived alone from there on out and started to specialize in nasod nanotechnology. That's it...that's my story. Even to this day, I don't know who my real parents are," (y/n) said. She had her arms around herself in a hug as she let her tears continue to fall.
"You're right...I didn't have the exact same pain as you did but our stories are similar. You miss your parents don't you. Your real parsnts, I mean. I don't know what it's like to miss parents that you never knew," Add said. He scooted closer to her and pulled her to him so that she was leaning on his shoulder.
"There's something else that I need to tell you," (y/n) said. Add again stayed silent so that she could continue. "I have a tattoo around my neck but I didn't put it there. It's in the shape of a chain and I can't get rid of it. It's a constant reminder of my past. I hate it...so much. I try to cover it up but I always end up seeing it eventually," (y/n) said sadly. She closed her eyes and pictured the tattoo disappearing but it didn't work either.
"I have something like that. I'll tell you my story first though. It will make sense if I tell you that first," Add said. He leaned his head onto hers.
"Hey Add. I have a question. It's a serious question, a promise almost," (y/n) said.
Random thoughts were flying through her head but this one stayed put so she couldn't help but voice it. "Yeah, I'm still listening," Add said in reply.
"Will you help me find my parents. It doesn't have to be now but whenever you feel like it, I want to find them. I want to know what they would have been like," (y/n) said softly. She was starting to drift of to sleep although she still wanted to hear Add's story.
"Whatever you want (y/n). Just make sure that you never leave me. I'll never forgive you if you do that after saying what you said," he replied. He seemed to be falling asleep too.
"I promise. I won't ever do anything like that," (y/n) said and she meant it too. Suddenly, alarms started going off, ruining the entire situation.
"Damn it...they found us again," Add said with a sigh. Instead of getting up, Add just sat there.
"Aren't we going to move the lab again?" (y/n) said, worried that Add might have been too drowsy to realize what was actually going on.
"Yeah but not right now. The barrier is at full power right now so it might take them a while to break it. I don't feel like dealing with them for a second time today," Add said with a yawn.
"You're so lazy," (y/n) teased although she thought very highly of Add.
"I am not. I actually worked all week. I think I deserve some time off," Add said, a little bit of playful annoyance was evident in his voice.
"If you say so but if we wait too late, they catch us. I'll be taken away forever," (y/n) said with the intent to joke but Add took it seriously.
"Let's go," he said as he got up. (Y/n) sighed and got ready to move the lab again.
