Chapter 17

I'm just going to put this random sentence here because I don't have an author's note right now...

Add hadn't meant to be away from her for so long. It was truly an accident, but there was nothing he could do about it. Instead of four days, it had ironically been four months since the last time Add had seen her.

He had gone to investigate the Altera Core without (y/n) knowing that Wally would probably be there too. Add was right about Wally being there and because of that, he had to fight a pretty long battle that only resulted in Wally's retreat. The battle had lasted for hours, leaving plenty of time for Add to return to (y/n) within his self given time limit.

He intended to return after finishing his search, but something had gone wrong. When Add tried testing out the core's energy capacity, he accidentally trapped himself within the corriders of the Altera Core. Unable to return to the surface, Add used this time to upgrade his dynamos which he eventually used to get himself free, but a month and a half had already passed by the time that happened. He had barely survived the ordeal, and (Y/n) had long since left Altera.

Add had no idea whether she was safe or not, nor did he know where to start looking for her. He could only continue onward. He stopped back by the lab and gave Shiro a proper burial. After doing that, Add had left Altera and found himself in Feita. The place was almost overrun with demons, yet there Add stayed because of a deal he'd been offered. He was given the opportunity to help fight off the demons and in return, he would be given help in locating a strong source of power that he could use to further upgrade his dynamos.

Having no luck in finding (y/n), Add agreed, so that was where he stayed for almost two months. He did eventually leave but after all that time, Add didn't find (y/n). That brought him back to Altera where he was now heading to visit Shiro's grave.

It had crossed Add's mind several times, the thought of Wally finding (y/n) before he did. It was this thought that almost made him give up on finding her, thinking that she might be dead by now. But it was his desire to regain his weakness that kept him searching, hoping that she was alive and well.

As he walked to the place where his former lab used to be, he thought of the possibility of (y/n) being there. It was a low possibility according to his calculations, but he still hoped for her presence. It must have merely been a coincidence, but Add noticed another presence up ahead. It motivated him to walk faster. When he realized that the presence was in the exact direction that he was headed in, he started to run. Add made it to the clearing where Shiro was buried only to find disappointment and a cat.

(Y/n) was not there, but a black cat was. It wasn't startled by Add's sudden appearance as if used to seeing people pop up out of nowhere. Add sighed and went to Shiro's grave noticing something different. There were flowers there that he was absolutely sure he hadn't put there. The only explanation that he wanted to think of was (y/n), but the flowers were whithered and old. They were on the verge of death which meant that if (y/n) had been there, she was already gone.

Frustration and sadness found its way into Add's mind. If he had just been there a little earlier, he might have been able to find her. Add didn't touch the shriveling flowers although he wanted to. They were for Shiro, not him. He made his way to a nearby tree and sat with his back against it.

The black cat from earlier followed him sitting down next to him. It surprised Add that this cat was so comfortable being around a total stranger, but he didn't shoo the cat away. He let it stay there as he sat there with his back against the tree thinking of other places to check.

It wasn't until Add woke up that he realized he'd fallen asleep. He felt uneasy as though someone was watching him, but he saw no one other than the black cat and he felt no other presence than his own. That was when he realized that the cat was the one watching him with its strangely red eyes.

"She's coming back tomorrow if you wanted to know. She might not be as happy to see you as you hope though," a voice said. Add was startled by the sudden voice and his eyes darted from place to place wondering who could have possibility spoken to him. Then his eyes fell on the cat. "You're wondering who said that? It was me of course, but I didn't actually say anything. The device in my ear allows me to project my thoughts at will. It's one of (y/n) inventions, so it's super tiny," the cat said.

Add stared at the cat hoping that he was just dreaming. "You're a cat," he noted trying to justify the reason why the cat shouldn't have been speaking to him.

"Didn't you hear my explanation? Anyway, yes, I am a cat. Any other obvious statements that you want to make?" the cat spoke. It took Add a minute to accept the fact that the cat was communicating with him, but when he did, he had questions.

"You know (y/n)? Where is she?" Add said.

"Dunno. She never let's me follow her home. It's all a part of her safety measures. She doesn't want me to interfere with her hunting," the cat said.

"You must at least know if she's doing well. Does she live here in Altera?" Add asked.

"Yeah, I know stuff. (Y/n)'s doing just fine, but she just got to Altera two weeks ago. Said she doesn't stay in one spot for too long. She also says a lot about a person named Add. From what I know, you seem like you could be him. Are you?" the cat said with a tilt of his head. Add only nodded, his thoughts now wondering to the possibility of (y/n) now hating him. The cat suddenly backed away from him a little. "You are in for a lot of yelling if you intend to stay here until she gets back tomorrow. She's really mad at you, ya know," the cat said.

"I guess I am," Add said with a sigh. No way was he leaving knowing that she would show up. So what if she'd yell at him? At least he'd be able to finally see her again. Add just sat there in silence while the cat watched him. It was awkward and creepy, but he said nothing to the cat.

After a while, Add started to get bored. Just when he was about to start talking to the cat again, and not because he was crazy or anything, the cat sprang up from its spot.

"Shadow! I'm back! You around?" a voice called. Add knew that voice all too well but something about it was different. No, something about (y/n) was different and Add could tell. The cat, who's name must have been Shadow, looked in the direction that the voice had come from. Soon, footsteps could be heard coming closer and closer to where Add was.

"Shadow? You here? I brought you food this time. It's actual food," (y/n) said as she stepped into the clearing. She was holding a bag of what must have been food in one hand and in the other hand was a small bouquet of flowers. She wore a cloak so Add couldn't see her face but it was most definitely her.

"(Y/n)! I'm over here! Look who I found," Shadow said as he walked over to Add and jumped in his lap.

(Y/n) put down the flowers and pulled the hood of her cloak down off of her head and froze. Her eyes widened at seeing Add. "(Y/n)..." Add whispered. He was finally seeing her again.
