Chapter 13

At first, Add thought he was dreaming. The peace he felt was surreal, reminding him of when his mother did this same thing when he was still a child. That was why when he did wake up, Add didn't dare move. He kept his eyes closed knowing that it was (y/n) who ran her fingers through his hair. She said something to Dynamo who luckily hadn't betrayed Add's current status of being awake. He considered the chance that Dynamo was no longer synchronized with him in the same way they once were, but he didn't think about it too much.

Add had no clue how much time had passed, but the air felt cooler. It must have been dark outside. Stella told them about how chilly it got at night in comparison to the daytime heat.

"Um, Add if you don't mind, it's getting a little too cold. I just need to grab a blanket."

His eyes shot open. "You knew I was awake??"

(Y/n) slowly lifted her hand away from his hair. "Your dynamos turned back on by themselves."

"You have got to be kidding me!!" He would have to impliment a setting to prevent this type of thing from happening again in the future. "Fine, get your blanket. I was getting up anyway." He avoided eye contact and brought the treacherous devices over to him to power them down. In a way, since Dynamo's original chip was the one currently running the weapon's system, it had still been Dynamo that betrayed him afterall.

"Are you feeling any better? Dynamo told me that you overloaded yourself."

If he was being honest with himself, he still felt the affects of the stunt he pulled off. He had been well aware that his dynamos couldn't handle that type of output for very long, so he used himself as a medium. It was the only way to achieve the results he needed. At least while he was laying down, he had been able to push the slight pain aside. "I'm already well over it," he answered. Dynamo wasn't letting him off that easily.

"My analysis shows that your vitals are subpar by at least thirteen percent," the small nasod revealed. "If you attempt to perform any actions that require the use of high voltages, you will risk damaging your implant. Further time to recuperate will be necessary to heal this potential damage. Since you are human rather than nasod, the repairs will be made on their own."

"I know, I know." Add waved his hand at Dynamo who had been floating nearby.

"Another fifteen hours is recommended for full recovery," Dynamo continued. Add was glad that the health check was working properly but Add did not miss the nasod's nagging.

"I'll take that as a no then," (y/n) noted. She climbed onto the bed with the blanket she had acquired and claimed the side facing the wall. "Sounds like you'll be out of commission for half the day tomorrow. I know you'll get back to work as soon as that time has passed though."

"He said no high voltage. Doesn't mean I can't work," Add reiterated. "I'm about to go ahead and start my investigation right now." He ignored the disappointed sigh that (y/n) let free. "Dynamo, the chip that you're currently operating on is from a nasod that attacked me. I was able to encrypt it enough to allow it to function as your motherboard, but the details of that other nasod are still locked behind a code that I don't recognize. I need you to decode it form me while I run an analysis the information that I have."

"Do you want me to help you?" (y/n) offered.

"Hm? Go ahead. Just don't touch anything that I don't hand to you." Add scattered the remaining parts across the floor as he waited for her to come back and sit next to him. Then, he displayed the purple tinted holograms of information across the room for her to view as well. "Those nasods appeared to be new models which should be impossible since nasods are practically an extinct race. No one in this era should even know what a nasod is, myself and you being exceptions. In my era, an organization called Nasod Ruler sought to destroy all traces of nasods. Based on what I now know, they succeeded."

"Then how did those nasods come into existence?"

"I wish I knew. Very few people have their hands on information pertaining to nasods. Wally was the only person that I was aware of, but even he wouldn't have been capable of building something this advanced. There could be others. I've been able to walk around with my weapons freely because most simple people don't realize what they are." Add scratched his head and pulled a hologram towards them. "This is a reconstructed mapping of their anatomy. They were modeled after humans. With the research my mother left, I can tell that humans are far easier to understand than nasods are."

(Y/n) pointed at the spherical core that would simultaneously serve as something similar to the nasod's brain and heart. "How come Dynamo doesn't have one of those?"

"My structure is fundamentally different from true nasods," Dynamo answer for himself. "I was created by Asker Grenore, not the founder of nasods. Therefore, my core is not located in a place so easily accessible. That also makes it more difficult to repair should any internal damage be caused."

"Dynamo," Add called in an angered tone. "Don't ever use that name again. That's an order."

"My apologies, Master Add." Dynamo fell silent and returned to hacking into the nasod chip.

"That was my father's name," Add said to (y/n). She didn't ask, but he knew she was curious.

"So then your name must be Add Grenore," she concluded.

"No." He shook his head. "Add is what my mother renamed me in Dynamo's codes. He wouldn't respond to my real name when we first met. If he had, the battle codes stored in my chip implant would have activated." He heard her give a hum of understanding but nothing more. "Do you...not want to know my real name?"

"I wasn't going to pry. You don't really seem to like talking about anything from your past except maybe your mother. I do want to know your real name, if you want to tell me." He never really intended to tell her since he wanted it to stay a distant memory. That boy had died long ago. Yet, there was a small part of his mind that urged him to tell her so that someone would remember when he himself forgot.

"Edward Grenore. That was my name." He swipped the holograms aside and made them vanish. He didn't feel like working anymore. "We'll figure the rest out tomorrow. Dynamo, finish the decode by next week. It appeared to be difficult to break into, but your analysis should be more than enough to get through it." Add found himself facing (y/n) unsure of what he should say to her.

"Guess that means it's time for the both of us to sleep huh. No staying up late for you," she said. Add didn't bother to protest. They each stepped out of the room in turns to allow one other to make their nighttime preparations.

It was nothing out of the ordinary for them to share the same sleeping space, but Add found it uncomfortable to sleep in a foreign place after being used to his former home for so long. Not only that, but he had spent a majority of his day unconscious. Even though his body needed to recover, his mind was fully rested and itching to be put to use.

"(Y/n)...are you still awake?" He recieved silence in return. Part of him was glad that she had already fallen asleep. "Dynamo, are you still alive over there?" He wanted to speak to his friend just like old times when he was younger and a little more naive about the world he currently lived in.

"Of course, Master Add. I am still attempting to bypass this chip's coding. It is easy to understand but heavily guarded."

Add hummed in acknowledgement, not entirely interested in the progress. "I don't think I really care about researching nasods anymore," he told his companion. "I don't need the information. I have more than enough knowledge to do whatever I want with what I already have. I could sell what I know and make millions if I chose to do that." He wasn't interested in money. It was a shallow form of power. "Mother left behind more stuff for me. I found her research after you bought me more time to stay in the library. I find it interesting how simple humans are to understand. I think I'll focus on them instead."

"Then do you wish for me to end this decryption process?"

"No, I still need whatever is on the chip. It's keeping you alive, and I don't want any problems out of it in the future. Go ahead and prepare a report for me when you get past its security."

        "As you wish, Master Add."

Add gestured for the little nasod to come closer to him. Dynamo floated over to his outstretched hand. "Welcome back. Try not to die on me again, alright." He ran a hand over the top of Dynamo's metal frame. "That's an order."
