Chapter 20
Another chapter is here! I really need to do better about the time that passes between my frequent updates. I somehow keep getting off track.

It had already been two days, yet (y/n) hadn't returned. It bothered Add that he didn't do anything about it and Esper had decided not to go back to his time just to make sure Add didn't go after (y/n) while he was gone. After he had released the void in Add's room, he started to teach him a few things that he said took him quite a bit of time to figure out. As a matter of fact, Esper was sparring with him right now.
"Pay attention," Esper said with a bored expression as he zapped Add with his more advanced dynamos.
"Ow! That actually hurt that time!" Add complained.
"It was supposed to. Your mind wasn't clear," Esper said as he easily dodged Add's series of attacks. Add only frowned at him and continued to fight as best as he could. Esper had told him not to hold back saying that Add wouldn't be able to actually do much damage to him just yet. As much as he hated to admit it, Esper had been right. Add's attacks weren't doing much at all whenever they did land. Esper had pretty much seen most of them coming. Add suspected that his future self was somehow cheating,, but Esper claimed that he didn't remember anything that Add did just since there was a period of delay.
Esper suddenly disappeared into a rift, which Add had learned they were called, and reappeared behind him. He saw it coming though so Add created a rift of his own but couldn't create an exit to the rift. "Damn it!" he muttered, waiting for a few seconds before Esper appeared just as he always did with that same 'you didn't do it right' look in his eyes.
Esper reopened the rift, allowing for Add to get back to the grassy feild that they were sparring in. When he got back though, he was kicked to the ground. "What was that for?!" Add snapped.
"The match wasn't over. I only brought you back because I had to," Esper said without even the slightest bit of remorse. Add just sat there on his dynamos just above the ground and sighed. Two of dynamos circled him as he began to allow himself to drift back into his thoughts. "Don't," Esper warned.
"Don't what?" Add asked as he looked over to Esper who was sitting on his own dynamos.
"She can handle herself. She told us that for years and yet we never really believed her."
"I wasn't even thinking about (y/n)!" Add claimed.
"You weren't yet. You always do. I should know. My memories have been rewriting themselves based on what you do. Apparently she crosses your mind a lot," Esper mused. Add only kept silent. "There was one memory that I found questionable though. I didn't know that I slept with a cat plushie that (y/n) bought me. I wonder how recent this was..."
Add's face turned completely pink and he got up and walked away from Esper. "That never happened!"
In actuality, it had only happened one time and (y/n) had caught him that one time. After that, he hid the plush kitten away from himself and vowed to never like such a plush cat ever again. "If it never happened, why was I able to go back in time and get a picture?" Esper said, now holding a single photo between two of his fingers that Add was sure wasn't there a moment ago.
"Burn it. Now," Add ordered. That sort of thing should never exist and he wanted the evidence gone immediately.
"I'll make a deal with you. If you win against me in just one sparring match, I'll burn it without a second thought. If you don't, I'll use this as blackmail material for later. Not sure for what though," Esper said.
"What kind of person are you to want to blackmail yourself?!" Add asked in frustration.
"Shouldn't you already know the answer to that question? Besides, I still have a sense of humor." Esper was clearly enjoying this.
"That's not called having a sense of humor," Add growled as he got his dynamos ready. Esper smirked and got his own dynamos ready after storing the photo in a void.
"Call it what you want, but it was enough to motivate you was it not?" Add responded by making the first move. During the first sparring match, Add lost. Esper ended it by kicking him, again. The second match was also a loss and so were the matches following that all the way up to the twenty fifth one. Add had been blasted by one of Esper's lower damage skills and he now lay on his back in pain.
"Why the hell does that hurt so much?" Add whined.
"Do you give up now?" Esper said. A frown was now on his face as he looked down at Add.
"No. One more time. I won't let you get away with trying to blackmail me." Add was tired though and didn't really know if he could spar anymore. However, he was more worried about that one photo than he was about his fatigue.
"The goal isn't for you to be worried about the blackmail threat. You're supposed to get stronger and you're supposed to be able to defeat me in a simple sparring match," Esper growled.
"Yeah okay. I'll win this time," Add muttered as he carefully got himself up. He readied his dynamos and waited for Esper to make the first move. When he did, Add saw it coming and was able to counter it, but as the match continued, Add's energy drained even more. Esper was able to knock him down again and Add just stayed there on the ground thinking that the match was over. He'd lost again...or so he thought. Esper still launched an attack at him and luckily for Add, he was able to successfully create a rift right below him and reappear nearby.
"What are you doing? The match is over! I clearly lost!" Add flinched when Esper looked at him. His gaze sent a clear message, that the match would be over when he said it was over. Esper didn't hesitate to hit Add with another of his low damage skills causing him to cry out in pain.
"Esper stop!" Add whimpered but Esper walked right over to him and pinned him to the ground.
"Stop acting like this is some sort of game! It isn't!" Esper snapped. Add struggled to break free of Esper's grip as he now began to fear for his life. "Fight! Don't let me win!" Esper urged.
"Stop it! Let me go! The match is over. I give up, just leave me alone..." Add pleaded.
"You will not give up. This is your life that you're fighting for." Esper began to choke him. Being that Esper was considerably stronger than him anyway, Add couldn't free himself. He was stuck and he knew it and Esper seemed to know it too but didn't stop for some reason. "Don't give up or else you'll fail," Esper hissed. Add felt himself growing even weaker than he was before.
"Esper...stop...please," Add managed to say as he tried yet still failed to pull Esper's hand away from his throat. Surely this couldn't be the way that his life would be ended. Not by himself, not in this way. Esper released him and Add didn't hesitate to push him away to catch his breath. Esper walked off kicking one of his dynamos aside as he sat on the ground running his hand through his hair.
Add coughed a bit more before he regained air. "What's wrong with you?! You almost killed me!" Add snapped as he was still recovering.
"I don't know. My mind is in so much conflict right now," Esper whispered. He looked over to Add with teary eyes and Add could see the enmity within them. "I don't know what to do anymore. I can't make you get stronger than me like this and if we don't get stronger, (y/n) will die and...I don't know why but it's bothering me more than it has before. I can't explain it. It's so frustrating," Esper whinned. Add glared at him.
"You're such an idiot. For the past two days, I thought you were changing, but you're still the same. If there was a problem, you should have told me about it. Doing things your way every time won't always fix things!" Add snarled.
Esper's sadness diminished a little. "You sound like (y/n). She really has rubbed off on you hasn't she." He gave a melancholiclaugh with his response.
"What do you care. You were trying to kill her earlier and now you want to save her? You're not making any sense," Add said.
"It's your fault. You're the one that fell in love with her, and it's causing all of my memories to change and my thought process is changing and I don't even know what to think anymore. All I do know is that my mind is screaming at me to keep her away but everythingelse disagrees...it's confusing me," Esper spoke. Add tilted his head at those words having felt something similar before. Before he had come to terms with what was going on with him, Add's own mind would scream for him to push (y/n) away. She could interrupt his thought process just by looking at him and back then, it annoyed him, but now he didn't mind. In fact, now he yearned for it and missed it. He had come to terms with that conflict, telling himself that all of this was okay and that nothing was wrong. But it must have been different for Esper who seemed to have been far more cruel than Add was currently.
"I think I know why you're so conflicted," Add stated.
"Don't say it. I already considered it a possibility but I don't actually believe it. Its not an option," Esper hissed.
"Well until you do believe it, you can stay here. I'm going home and resting because somebody almost killed me." Add began to leave and wondered how exactly he would save (y/n) as he walked home. According to Esper, she was going to die no matter what he tried to do to stop it from happening. There had to be some way out there, and Add needed to find it.
