~Teasing Little Miss Nerdy~

Nicolas Isaias De León woke up first with a banging hangover from all the drinks he had taken last night. He was feeling like a train ran him over a million times until his bones laid in rubbles. Precarious activities of last night came reeling at once into his mind and he groaned aloud with his hands pressed to his head.

Last night, for some unknown reasons, Carlos had asked him to join in their drinking spree and for some reason, he agreed. Initially, he had opted to go home early but later deviated from his plan. He knew his sister might have been worried but he wasn't feeling up to her drama.

Now to worsen his morning, he had to attend school even though all he wanted to do was stay at home, and preferably sleep the day away. Reluctantly, he dragged himself out of bed and into the bathroom so he could prepare for school despite later than usual. Soon, he got out with cold water cascading down his body in droplets, feeling slightly better than he did when he first woke up.

Minutes after, he exited his room where he could join his sister in the usual morning ritual of mastication, otherwise known as breakfast. He took light steps down the stairs and almost tripped out of drowsiness when he got close to the landing. When he came to, his sister, Aurora, was already at the table and was studying him with an amused expression. The look of annoyance he threw her way prompted her to forcefully avert her gaze and direct it back to her food.

He arrived at the table and didn't sit, instead kept his gaze pinned on her. While he watched her sluggish moves, he noticed she was not in her usual hyperactive mode and she was not even smiling at him as she should have. If he made a wild guess, it might have been that she had been roasted by her so called friends for not having what they did; up-to-date devices and cool clothes like they did. He grabbed a seat nearby and settled down on it.

"You look extremely ghastly this morning. Had a fatal accident where a truck crushed you to pieces and you got back together again?" She asked without looking up from her plate of bread and jam.

He clicked his tongue. "There, she finally finds her tongue. I thought you didn't wanna talk to me today." His hands were placed over his eyes as he spoke. He had not yet gotten used to the morning light streaming through the window and it was causing his head to throb even more.

"Stop giving yourself more credit than deserved. I was not going to but you look really horrible. If no one else does, who will? Anyway, when are you going to buy me the new macbook air? Selena says--"

He cut her mid sentence with a raised hand. "I'm not about to listen to you whine this morning about your loser friends. Eat your breakfast quickly and let's leave."

From his peripheral vision, he saw her pout and glare at the side of his head. Regardless, he licked up a slice of bread, slathered jam on it then placed another slice on top. He took a bite and nearly spit it out when it seemed to taste like lead on his taste buds. However, he forced himself to swallow then drank some juice to wash down the reminant on his tongue. After that, he leaned back to wait for his sister while he busied himself on his phone.

A while later when she was done eating, she stood up, grabbed his car keys and walked outside. She didn't want to wait for him outside his car so she sat inside it and waited while Nicolas went upstairs to check in on the other man before leaving. It was a ritual he always did every morning.

He stopped right outside the door to listen intently as if he could hear 'his' heartbeat from all the way. Coming to check up on 'him' was always the hardest part of his day apart from listening to his sister whine. With so much unwillingness, he dragged himself away from the door, deciding that it wasn't the time yet to meet 'him' face to face.

He met Aurora punching away on her phone when he got outside to drive.

"Keep your phone away, dammit." He growled at her.

"Why?"

"You're in my car. Keep the phone away for goodness sake, we don't have to fight about this too."

Shr rolled her eyes at him but complied and placed the phone in her bag anyway. "Well I'm not the one who's starting a fight all the time when we're together, you big bully."

He stared at her for a while before his shoulder started shaking with disguised laughter. He knew she was going to get riled up with what he was doing but he did it nonetheless.

"Stop it." She was fighting unsuccessfully to keep herself from grinning hard. In the end, she burst into laughter with him. She sighed after, "I hate when you get like that."

He turned just then to walk into the driver's seat. "Get like what?"

"Get annoying. I miss times when we play than fight. If only you start spending more time with me and knowing the things I love."

"Let's talk about this when we get home. For now, I have to drop you off somewhere close to school. You can get to school--"

"--on my own from there. This is a routine I'm already used to. There's no need to announce it, alright?" That said, she put on her seatbelt and settled into the seat.

Nicolas stared at his sister for a while then reached out to pull her cheeks fondly. She was his life and responsibility, and he owed to her everything but lies. He was not entirely hiding the truth from her but in due time, he would let her in on it.

He had just walked into the school building when he felt some slaps on his back. He didn't need no soothsayer to tell him it was Carlos. The latter was fond of greeting him in that manner.

"What's up, man?" He said after shaking hands with him and some of the other guys trailing behind them.

"I'm good." Carlos responded with equal energy. He look like he was excited for something Nicolas had no clue about.

"You look pumped this morning. What's happening?"

"Nothing extra. I'm just so glad to be alive. Imagine all the drinking we did yesterday, we ought to have died."

Nicolas cringed at his blatant words. Death? He wasn't ready to die yet. There was still a whole lot for him to do and death was nothing near the bottom of it. The other guys began to talk to Carlos about something but he wasn't listening to because something else from the side of his vision caught his attention. He looked and saw Dolores Huerta, the nerd in his class that he wasn't so fond of.

Unknown to him, Carlos had seen her step out of her car and hurry through the school doors with books clutched in her arms. "Nico boy, check that out. Seems like the school's nerd is late today." They guffawed incessantly like they just heard the most hilarious thing in the world.

"Let's go help her out." Carlos, being the ringleader, said again and they walked inside the school.

Before they got close to her, Carlos whispered something in his ears and Nicolas nodded his head in reply. He couldn't wait to see her face by the time they would be done with her.

Only the side profile of her face was seen as she stretched on her toes to push those thick volumed books into her locker but it seemed like the objects had a mind of their own. The moment they got close, Nicolas angled out his right elbow, making sure to nudge her hard with it. She fell over and her glasses slid off her nose bridge, crashing to the floor with a crack while her books dropped to the ground in the process. Despite being late, the other guys still hung around to know the outcome.

"Hey, it's Little Miss Nerdy again." Carlos stepped close to her just for intimidation. However, she was too busy picking up her books to even pay him any attention.

Nicolas spotted her english textbook lying some feet away from where they stood so he  got to it first faster than she could stretch her slender hands.

She huffed in exasperation before asking for the textbook. After messing around with her for a bit, he decided to let her have the book. She would be late if she didn't get it before the next bell rang and that was coming in a few minutes. She stretched her hand to take it back but another slapped it out of his hand causing it to land further away than where it first fell. It was Carlos.

"Let's go." He growled without looking at any of them.

Nicolas shrugged. There was nothing he could do anyway. He didn't want to see her face become a watery mess like most girls did after encounters like these, so he followed the boys. Right as they crossed the threshold of the class, the second bell rang. The teacher stopped them with a stern look on her face for explanations on why they were late to her class but none had anything plausible to give her.

They had been out drinking the previous night but she wasn't supposed to know that.

The woman waved them off. Nicolas and Carlos took their seats behind a certain fiery black haired beauty, Adelina. She was the seatmate and best friend to Dolores. While Carlos fingered her long braids without her knowledge, Nicolas played with his pen for lack of things to do. He wasn't even listening to the boring teaching.

The door opened and Dolores stepped in with a red face. Whether out of anger as a result of the incident that happened earlier or embarassment for coming late, it was unknown to Nicolas. The english teacher didn't even look her way that much and she hurried over to sit.

Adelina's face lit up as she turned her head causing Carlos to hastily drop her hair. If she noticed him toying with her hair, she would hang him by his balls. She was capable of doing that to him.

Letting go of the distraction, Nicolas forced himself to listen to the teacher drone. Sooner than expected, he fell asleep.
