~Revenge is Best Served Rotten~
Monday arrived faster than expected for Dolores Huerta. Her previous week had gone excellently well with good results for the pop quizzes held in about six of her subjects. The relentless hours dedicated into studying didn't go to waste eventually. All went well, except for the accident that happened with Aurora. The immediate intervention of the mysterious savior prevented Nicolas from mourning his sister. The victim herself still wasn't ready to speak up on how the drowning happened.
Dolores deduced that there was no way Aurora could have gotten in the water herself when she knew she couldn't swim. Having become familiar with the kind of personality Aurora had, Dolores concluded the girl was far from stupid to have jumped in the pool. Someone must have pushed her in.
But who?
The question lingered unspoken in her exhausted mind. It was lunchtime meaning free period to do whatever they wanted before classes resumed. While the group of five moved to their usual spot which used to be Dolores' and Adelina's, Simeon piped up suddenly.
"Last weekend, a girl in the junior pushed someone into the water during a pool party. Unfortunately, the girl couldn't swim and would have drowned if a guy didn't jump in time to save her."
Dolores and Adelina exchanged knowing looks discreetly as Nicolas replied him with a sneer. "I see you have nothing else to do in your spare time but carry about rumours."
"What? I heard a group of juniors gossip about it in the parking lot this morning. The water incident seems like the most talked about right now. Can you not tell from the excitement on their faces? They're still buzzed from the high." He said in his defense.
Dolores looked at him like he'd lost his mind. "The party happened on Saturday, that's two days behind."
"Which is why I want us to sit over there. I have something planned to punish the mean girl. Stop talking and follow me." Simeon said and walked off to the spot closer to the side of the juniors, expecting the rest of them to be right on his trail.
Nicolas hissed angrily. He had never liked Simeon for any reason and just when he was starting to accommodate him, he decided to pull stupid stunts like this. "See why I don't like that guy?"
Dolores rolled her eyes. If nothing, she was sure Nicolas only said that out of green jealousy. He still had the notion that Simeon was still pining for her attention meanwhile the latter just wanted to be genuine friends.
"Let's be cool. It's your sister we're talking about, Nicolas. Aurora still hasn't said anything concerning the person who pushed her in the pool, so let's take it that she's still shocked." Dolores whispered out of the earshot of Grayson.
"Yes, but--"
"Don't you want to know who pulled such cruel card on her?" She added in another hushed whisper. Grayson and Simeon were the only people who were still kept in the dark about Aurora's existence as his sister.
There was an angry tick in his neck. "Let's go then."
Adelina had no issues going anywhere as long as Grayson was right next to her. The poor girl was whipped more than a cup of frappuccino from Starbucks. Her case was the literal definition of falling hook, line and sinker in love. Everytime Dolores chanced a glance at her, she never ceased to be amazed at how fast the tides of change had transformed her friend to a hopeless romantic from a player. Who would have thought Adelina had one bone of shakespearean sentiments in her?
"Hurry up guys."
Simeon's bubbly tone pulled her attention away from Adelina who had her slender fingers wrapped around Grayson's arm. Simeon rocked impatiently on the balls of his feet reminding her of a child filled with mischief as his eyes twinkled.
Now, they were seated really close to the juniors who wouldn't stop staring at them. It was a moment they didn't want to blink away from and miss any second of the show. It was not every day that you got unexpected visits from the hot seniors or see them up close.
Nicolas moved his head like he was trying to seek out someone from amidst the sea of faces looking back in his direction. Dolores noticed this and tugged on his sleeve, sending a silent nod for him to cool out.
"Are you guys looking in the direction of that door?"
All four of them turned their heads immediately in the direction Simeon was pointing to. It was the entrance to the wide cafeteria but it was for the juniors instead.
Adelina had her eyebrows joined in surprise. "We have two doors to the cafeteria? Strange that I haven't noticed this."
Dolores cleared her confusion. "That's because you didn't spend your junior years here. Remember?"
"Oh, yeah."
Simeon sent her a side grin. "Just hold on, you'll soon understand why we have two doors instead of one. Watch closely. In five."
It was exactly five seconds that he counted when a gorgeous blonde came strutting in through the doors with three minions behind her but she made a wrong move by being in front. Before she completely crossed over the threshold of the entrance, a whistle resounded the room and from above, a bucket turned downwards not missing it's mark. It tumbled over her, covering her face causing her to miss her steps and she went spiralling to the hard ground.
Loud gasps resonated throughout the room from different tables. Soon, snickers of laughter could be heard and a pandemonium broke out as the aggrieved blonde yanked the bucket away from her head. Her hair now dripped in a slimy mixture of white and green. Nobody saw it coming when the girl doubled over and puked directly on the floor in disgust. The people who sat closest to her immediately recoiled from her with a hand covering their noses.
"Bulls eye." Simeon remarked, then leaned back into his arms crossed behind his head.
Nicolas gave him a suspicious glare. "How did you know it was her who did it?"
"Who wouldn't? I said it was a party that had been the talk of this morning. I heard about it from a junior and I thought to pay the person back in their own coin."
At his response, Dolores and Nicolas exchanged discreet looks which spoke in volumes how relieved they were that their secret was still safe. Adelina on the other hand, was too busy appraising the school for possessing good sense of judgement when they decided to make two doors to the cafeteria; one for seniors and the other for juniors. At least, it would prevent her from stepping over puke and whatever repulsive mixture was on the floor.
"Smells like rotten eggs and spoilt milk." Someone from up front remarked. By this time, the girl had stopped her retching and realized everyone else had their phones whipped out to capture the moment.
"This girl is way too evil for her age and she deserves worse for trying to get a fellow student killed." It was Grayson speaking out for the first time since they arrived the table.
"I know right. I want to walk up to her and have her bitch slapped to hell and back for what she did to a human like her. What on earth do parents feed their kids with these days?" Adelina's face registered myriads of emotions. It was hard to say which.
Some teachers arrived the scene and Dolores watched as their faces morphed from anger to appallment at the calamity that had befallen the once neat floors of the cafeteria. The cleaners were even more enraged to have to clean the mess some kid caused because of a mean prank.
The show was over. The seniors stood up to vacate the seats they had earlier occupied, none of them having any appetite for food after the horrid stench spread throughout the air contaminating the various aromas of food.
While Simeon talked away with Adelina and Grayson paying attention to him, Dolores pulled her boyfriend back so she could talk to him.
"How are you feeling?"
He ran a feverish hand through his hair. "I honestly don't know. I feel so pissed and want to slam the girl's head against a locker."
The sides of her eyes crinkled in humour. "You know that's murder, right?"
He sent her an incredulous look. "She wasn't thinking about that when she tried to have my sister drowned, was she?"
"Not really." She shrugged, pulling him towards their class. "We should head back to meet the others now. I might need to stop by your house to give Aurora the deets."
Nicolas rolled his eyes but chuckled in humour, allowing himself to be pulled along.
