Chapter 36
Draco's POV
Snape's lifeless body laid in my arms. I couldn't help but sob uncontrollably. Two of the people that I considered family in this world were dead. Micah was like a brother to me. Snape was, for all intents and purposes, my father. This battle needed to be over. I needed to protect Lila and Courtney. Voldemort could come back at any moment. I slowly set Snape's head on the ground before I stood up.
"I need to go back to the castle," Harry said, "won't you go with me? We can view Snape's memories together," he held up the vial full of his tears.
I shook my head. "I need to find a safe place for Lila. Then, I need to find Courtney. I have to protect what little I have left."
He nodded in understanding, patted my shoulder, and then left, taking Ron and Hermione with him. I looked around at the four people that were left with me. Mitch had his arms around Lila but kept Diana close to him. Millicent was on her knees, rocking back and forth. She was muttering about how she couldn't do this. That it wasn't fair. She was right. We were just kids.
"What do we do now?" Mitch asked, his face tear-streaked.
I took in a deep breath. "We need to get to the Room of Requirement. It has a tunnel we can use to get the girls to safetly."
"What if he comes after us? He wants to do the ritual today," Millicent cried out.
"We just need to try and spare your lives for as long as we can," I explained. "He's going to kill you regardless. Perhaps Potter will help us all out and kill the bastard."
She shook her head. "He won't win."
"Let's all just have some hope that we can get away from this castle and to a place where we can hide," Mitch said, helping Lila stand up.
"Draco, where is Blaise?" Millicent asked. "I haven't seen him since last night. You would think that He would want him here in all this. He didn't...kill him, did he?"
I shook my head. "Blaise got hurt terribly last night, but he is alive. He is at the safe place on the other side of the tunnel we need to get to."
She nodded. "As long as I can get to him, everything will be alright."
"Does anyone want to say some final goodbyes to Snape and Micah?" I asked.
"No," Millicent said while standing. "He wasn't that important."
"You are having his baby," Lila pointed out. "I think he is a little important."
She shook her head. "Just technicalities."
I blinked at her. "Are you serious right now? We're doing everything we can in order to save your child."
"A child that I don't want," she shrugged. "I don't want kids ever. I was planning on letting Him do whatever he wanted with the little bugger. I guess now that I'll be giving it up for adoption when all this is finally over."
"You will do no such thing," Mitch interjected. "I will take my brother's child. You don't need to worry about it. And to think, Micah was actually falling in love with a bitch like you."
She rolled her eyes. "So be it. It's not like I never told him about my feelings for Blaise."
"Too bad he's in love with me, you heartless cunt," Kamrynn's voice rang out from behind me. "Yeah, that's right," she said as all eyes laid on her, "I'm here. Draco brought me."
"Kam, there you are," I said, remembering that she had been behind me the whole time.
"I didn't go anywhere, Malfoy," she retorted. "Let's get these bitches to safety."
"Alright," I said, pointing in the opposite direction that Voldemort had left, "this way."
Mitch helped Lila walk since she was the one that was blown up like a balloon and still in a severe amount of pain. Kam walked next to Diana, and I had pulled Millicent up with me to the front. I didn't want a completely different fight on my hands while we were about to walk through a battlefield.
"What is this hut doing on the campus?" Mitch asked.
I sighed. "It belongs to a professor. He lives out here since he teaches care of magical creatures...and he's also half giant."
"Oi!" We had all heard it. It wasn't too far off. Hagrid was close to us.
"We need to hide," I said and retreated down a small knoll to duck down.
It took myself and Mitch to get Lila down the small hill. Before we could crouch down, there was a circle of people surrounding us. They were fellow deatheaters, which could only mean they were rounding us back up for the ritual.
"My Lord," said a voice, desperate andcracked.I turned to see my father, ragged and still bearing the marks of the punishment. Oneof his eyes remained closed and puffy. "MyLord...please...my son..."
"If your son is dead, Lucius, it is not my fault. He did notcome and join me, like the rest of the Slytherins. Perhaps hehas decided to befriend Harry Potter?"
"No--never,"whispered my father.
"Speaking of the devil, here he is," Voldemort stepped aside so he could see me standing there. I stepped in front of Kamrynn. "He is alive and well, Lucius, and with a blood traitor. I believe this is the Diggory boy's sister. Pity," he said, eyeing her. "She's got his jawline."
"Don't you dare speak about my brother," Kam said, trying to shove me aside.
"Shut up, Kam," I growled at her.
"Bella," Voldemort called out. "Prepare the ladies. Lila first."
That's when Aunt Bellatrix and some others pulled Lila, Diana, and Millicent to the front of the crowd. She shoved Lila down on her knees before standing with her wand straight to the sky before starting a sort of dance. Spells were coming out of her wand and seeped into Lila, who screamed in terror and pain. My grip tightened on my wand.
"Let us celebrate in this giving of life," Voldemort called over his minion's chants. "This life will bring longevity to our cause. It will be our livelihood!"
Lila's screaming had stopped but started back up again. I winced a bit, trying not to cry again as I watched was what was unfolding. It chilled me to the bone to think about what he was about to do to my wife and child.
"Draco, don't move," Kam started, her hand on my shoulder.
"Lila's death will bring us a new awakening!"
I shrugged her hand off and pushed myself through the crowd. Kam was screaming my name, but I was not about to stand around as he had my aunt with her wand pointed at my unborn child. I know Courtney had asked me to do whatever it takes to stay alive, but I could not live with myself if I just let Voldemort do whatever the hell he wanted with my son. I pushed himself to the front and pointed my wand at Voldemort.
"Avad-" I started, but Bella had stopped in front of me. She turned her wand on me instead of Lila. I smiled for a breif moment before I realized that she was going to kill me. I saw the burst of green light, which then became blocked by blonde hair.
"Courtney!" I screamed as the green light hit her directly in the chest.
I caught her falling body and started sobbing. What the fuck was she doing here? I pulled her body into mine. It was like I could feel her fading away. I could here the whispers of deatheaters behind us. I heard Kamrynn's earth shattering scream. My world was gone. Aunt Bella stole her from me.
"Oops, sorry, Drake," she twisted her face into a smile. "That was supposed to be for you. Stupid little girl."
"No, you're the stupid one," Voldemort spoke up. "The baby isn't viable now. You stopped the ritual to kill your nephew. You probably just killed his child as well."
"But, my Lord, he was about to kill you," she whimpered.
"Didn't matter, I still have my protection," he said as he slid his hand down his snake's head. "Now, do something useful and get the other girls prepared. Leave Draco here with his dead girlfriend and dead unborn child. Follow me."
Black smoke filled everywhere as all the deatheaters left, taking Diana and Millicent with them. Mitch tried to fight back, but he ended up with a bloody nose instead. Kam had crawled over to me and held Courtney's hand.
"Draco, I tried to stop her," Potter's voice came out of nowhere as he pulled a cloak off of him. "She wouldn't listen."
"Yeah, whatever, Potter," I said, "I'm sure you just feel terrible."
"I do. She's my friend too."
I turned my head up at him. "I'm not going to sit here and argue with you. I'm busy."
I kissed Courtney on top of her head and looked up at Kamrynn. "Kam, do you think you can take care of Court's body. Unfortunately, I have to get Lila to safety quick."
"Don't worry so much, Draco," Lila gasped. "I can still feel him move. It's slight, but he's there."
Mitch helped Lila stand up. "Why do you guys keep referring to the baby as a boy. You don't know what it is yet."
She hugged her huge stomach. "I just know."
I locked eyes with her. "We just know."
"We need to get to Diana and Millicent, or I won't know if mine or Micah's baby will be a boy or a girl," Mitch cleared his throat after.
"Draco, you could still come with me," Harry offered.
I shook my head. "Go without me. I have other stuff to do, obviously."
"Fine," Harry said, putting on his cloak and disappearing.
"Wingardium Leviosa," Kam said softly, raising Courtney's body off the ground. "I'm going to take her to the Great Hall and put her with the others we've lost. Then, I'm going to go to Blaise. My part in this war is over. Drake, do me a favor and don't die as well."
I crookedly smiled at her. "I can't make any promises."
I watched as she walked away from me, the love of my life floating in front of her. Tears stung my eyes again. I couldn't concentrate on her right now. I needed to focus on my son and his mother. I knew that I still couldn't die; I needed to be around for Lila and the baby. I knew that I just wouldn't have another love as great as Courtney.
"Can we go now? I could really use a good lie down and a spot of tea," Lila complained as she cradled her stomach. "I don't care where."
"We need to split up," Mitch said, sadly. "There is no way we both can take Lila and save the other girls in time."
I nodded. "You stay with Lila. Don't leave her."
He nodded back. "You better not let my daughter die."
I half-heatedly smiled at him. "Don't let my son die."
I took my leave. I was just wondering back to the castle at first because I couldn't pinpoint where they had taken them. They all flew away in a cloud of smoke. I was also pretty distracted with Courtney and Lila. I then saw Goyle coming down out of the castle. This was my ticket.
"Oi, Goyle," I yelled and got his attention. "Where you going?"
"I don't see how that's any of your business," he grunted.
"Listen, you oaf. I don't know who you thin you're talking to, but-"
"Oh, stuff it," he said, turning to face me. "I know you really didn't care about Crabbe and me. I figured it out because you just let him die."
I rolled my eyes. "Goyle, that is not at all true. I begged Potter to bring me back into the room, but there was no use. He wasn't savable; he did it to himself when he used the fiend fire. There's no going back from that."
He took in a deep breath. "I know. I just need someone to blame."
"Well, you can blame me then, but you need to tell me where you're going, mate."
He produced a small smile. "I'm going to the dock on the lake. I need to stand watch over the two pregnant girls while they grow their babies."
I smirked at him. "Perfect."
