Chapter 33

A/N: I am putting an author's note before you all read the chapter. I had a plan when I started this chapter, but the words flowed out of me and more happened than what I had planned. So, prepare yourselves. This might be the worst side of the battle that we see.

I reached for my wand, which was just right out of my reach. My dad pulled my hair again, and I screamed. I screamed for my sister that was lying unconscious on the ground. I screamed for my brother who was also unconscious. I screamed for my mother. Where was she? Did Michael do something when I wasn't looking? I reached up and tried to pry my father's hand from my hair, but he was too strong. Tears pricked my eyes.

"Avada Ka-"

The pressure of his weight went away as I heard him fall to the ground.

"You stay away from my children!" mum screamed as I looked up and saw her approaching with her wand. "I should've done this a long time ago. I should've never let a weak piece of shit control my life!"

I looked back over at my father as I quickly grabbed my wand. I stood and turned to see my mother hit him with another blue spell; this time, she hit him right in the chest. He seemed to be unconscious, so I turned to mum. The war was still raging on up at the castle, but it seemed to be away from us. Our battle here was over, but I needed to bind my father before he came to.

"You were strong," mum said as she reached out to grasp my hand. "I needed to be a long time ago."

I sighed. "You are a great mum."

She smiled and stepped away from me. "I love yo-"

A green light then hit her straight in the chest. The light went from her eyes, and she began to fall. I caught her and held her close. I screamed out loud for her. My heart felt like it was ripping from my chest. I knelt down to the ground as I held her lifeless body. I didn't want to let go of her, but I knew that if I continued to let my guard down, that the rest of us would die too. The tears wouldn't stop, and I couldn't let go of her. She was my mother.

"Courtney," Jade softly said. "Beverly..."

"Beverly needed punished for what she did," Michael said, approaching Jade as she slowly stood. "She deserved what she got."

"Deserved what she got?" I said, finding the strength to set mum down gently on the ground. "If anyone deserves to die here, it's you."

"I beg your pardon?" he asked, turning to face me.

"You heard me," I said, slowly standing while gripping my wand harder. "Mum only did what she could to protect us and herself. I know that she left you for Remus at one time, but she was working on a way to protect me. She only came back to protect me and Adeline."

"And what did I do to-"

"What did you do?" I said, anger starting to rush through me. "What did you do?"

"Court-" Jade started, but I interrupted her.

"You beat all of us. You laid your hands on your wife and children," I started inching closer to him. "You emasculated Marcus every chance that you got, even before he rejected Voldemort and ran off. You called us all names, and you even.."

"I even what?" "

I took in a deep breath. "You even touched me. I had pushed it out of my mind for so long, but I can't anymore. The anger that I have shoved deep down inside for you can no longer be contained."

He laughed. "I did no such thing to hurt you. You, your mother, and your brother are my property to do with as I see fit."

I rolled my eyes. "I have hated you all my life. I have been afraid of you all my life. Well, that ends today."

"Avada-" Jade yelled, but Michael turned with his wand out and beat her to the punch. A green light spilled from his wand and took the life out of my sister.

I screamed out. Jade and I might not have been close, but those last few hours, I really felt that there was a future for us. We could've been close, and it seemed like that was what she wanted as well.

I raised me wand. "Expelliarmus!"

Marcus's wand flew out of his hand. I kept my wand at the ready; there was no way in hell that I was going to let him him out of my sight this time. It was my stupidity that ended up with almost all of my family dead.

"Courtney," he smirked. "My beautiful Courtney."

"Shut up," I snarled. "Just shut the fuck up. You don't deserve to live, to breath the same air as me."

"But your mother did?"

"Sectumsempra!" I yelled, remembering the spell that Harry had used against Draco last year.

Michael collapsed to the ground with his hands on his abdomen. I walked over to where he was lying, watching the scared look on his face as blood ran from his body. I reached around himself and almost touched Marcus's wand. It hadn't flown far enough. I stepped on his fingers as they closed around it and forced him to release it. I bent over and picked it up so there was no chance of him healing himself or taking advantage of the situation.

"Please, Courtney," he groveled as he bled.

I shook my head. "You're going to die here, Michael. You're going to die by the hands of your daughter."

"Courtney!" I heard a voice from behind me.

I did look to see my brother coming towards me. I didn't need to let him talk me out of this decision. He had taken too much away from me, away from him. He needed punished for everything that he did to us, all of us. I felt him grab his wand from my hand.

"I'm going to take care of him," Marcus said, pushing me out of the way.

"Fuck that," I said. "We are not killing him with that curse. He doesn't deserve an easy out; he is going to bleed out from that gaping hole that I put in his stomach."

"I can't let you do this. Not because he doesn't deserve it, but this isn't you, Courtney."

I looked at my brother, really looked at him. "You were unconscious, so you were lucky that you didn't have watch the life leave our mother's eyes. You didn't have to watch him kill our sister. You weren't there every time he came to my room. You don't know the things he's done. You've been gone. I need to watch him die. I can't live in a world that has him anymore."

"And we're not going to stand here while we wait for him to die while others are dying around us," he sighed. "I'm sorry that you had to be the one to see mum die. You didn't deserve that, and mum didn't deserve that."

I closed my eyes for a moment. "You're right. We don't need to watch him die while others are dying," I raised my wand.

"I'll do it," he demanded.

I rolled my eyes. "Fine, get it over with."

"Avada Kadavra."
