Chapter 1
"What happened, Courtney?" Astoria asked me from the bed as I walked in and closed the door slowly.
I sighed and leaned against the wall. "He's gone," I replied before sliding down the wall slowly. "He's gone, and I told him to go." The tears had finally came from being held back. I wanted to seem strong in front of Draco when I told him to leave, but I highly doubt that I did when I shouted at him. I was slowly breaking inside.
"It's not forever," Kam said, joining me on the floor.
Fred walked into the room and stopped in his tracks as he saw me broken on the floor. Astoria waved him over to the bed as Kam wrapped her arms around me. My face automatically burying itself in her shoulder. I didn't know what was next, and I couldn't imagine it now that I knew what was happening. This cycle needed to be stopped. Everything was so messed up after every Draco had died. I didn't want that to be my future, and I was going to do everything in my power to stop it.
"So," Astoria said, which made me lift my head up. "Why did you tell him to leave?"
I pulled from Kam. "I turned the time turner."
Kame sat up very fast. "You mean that you know what the cycle is? Your mission is half over? What made you tell Draco to leave?!" She had grabbed me by both my shoulders and was shaking me.
"Kam," I said as I pushed her hands off of me. "It is a love cycle like Alycia had said. It starts out that Draco's and my...," I didn't know what exactly to call it. I mean, I was the reincarnation, but what do I call them to me? "...souls fall in love then we're torn apart by some dark force. Draco is always on the dark side, and I'm always a traitor of some kind. I always have an attraction to Ron."
Astoria looked at me confused. "So, what is it that you need to stop? That you need to not fall for Ron?"
I shook my head and went to continue, but Kam interrupted. "Do I still end up with Blaise?"
I shrugged. "I dunno. Sometimes your soul was there, and sometimes you weren't. I don't even know if I always met you in all honesty, Kam. But, to continue, no. I don't stop myself from falling for Ron. I have to stop something more drastic than that. It completely changes everything."
Astoria and I locked eyes at that point in time. I looked down right away, tears starting to fall again. I drew a deep breath in and let it out quickly. "Draco always," I swallowed hard not wanting to say the next part, "...dies. He's always killed in the battle because he turns sides and protects me." I said it all so quickly, I didn't think that they had heard it all or understood it for that matter.
"That can't be," Astoria grabbed onto Fred. "Draco can't possibly die."
I shrugged. "That's the other half of the mission. We have to make sure that he doesn't die, and I'm pretty sure that we have to succeed on the first try because the time turner," I held it up to show them, "is out of sand."
"Which means that Dumbledore only wanted it used once, for the purpose of you finding out your mission," Kam said, reaching out and taking the time turner.
"Either that or Dumbledore took you back really far and ran it out of sand," Astoria added, "but that doesn't matter because we are going to succeed the first time. I gave up my life to make sure that he ends up happy. I'll be damned if it was all for nothing."
Fred pulled her closer. "Aren't you glad that you did give up your life? It was all deatheating and taking orders and being on the dark side. Now you have-"
"Real friends," she cut him off and smiled at Kam and me. "So, what's our first task, boss?" she was asking me.
I shrugged. "I dunno what to do next," I wiped my eyes, which were so sore from crying. "We should go back to the order. They should know what is happening next. We need to keep tabs on the movement of You-Know-Who so we can know when the battle is going to be."
Fred nodded in agreement. "We need to go back to the burrow."
I shook my head. "The deatheaters most likely destroyed it completely by now. Besides, it wouldn't be the safest idea."
"She's right," Astoria agreed. "They probably have the whole place staked out with deatheaters just waiting for a member of the order to return."
Kam stood up. "We need to go back to Marcus' house. I bet that it's the only safe order house that is left. We should go tonight," she started to walk into the other room, to pack her things I presumed.
"We'll move in the morning," Astoria stood up as well. "We need to get a good night's rest before we go anywhere."
I shook my head. "I think we do need to move tonight. We can sleep at my brother's house, Astoria. Besides, it'll be easier to move in the dark than to move in broad daylight. We don't want anyone to follow us."
"I think I agree with Astoria," Fred crossed to the window. "I think we're being watched closely now. Draco was probably tailed on his way here, and if he wasn't, then I bet that Mitch guy was. They came straight from the Malfoy manor."
I sighed. "We'll move at dawn."
It looked as if I had spoken too soon. The door was blown off its hinges, hitting Fred and knocking him across the room. Astoria ran to him, but I looked at the door. I slowly stood before walking towards the opening, being very cautious of who could be wanting in so badly. I heard a giggle before she stepped through the slightly thick smoke.
"Helena," I sneered, pulling my wand out of my pocket.
A/N: A little longer than I've been doing recently, but it feels good to be able to write like this again. I think I'll be sticking to long chapters just like before. I was going to write the last chapter of Truth out longer, but I was trying not to cry in public while I wrote it. You should've seen my face. So, I hoped you enjoyed the first chapter of Promise. Remember to vote, comment, and love.
Oh! And the cover is just a temporary one. I'm asking my fans, my oh so patient fans, to make me one. It doesn't have to be perfect. It just needs to be something original for Promise. The image of this temporary one is from a banner for truth...and don't think that you won't be rewarded...I will dedicate a part to you and mention your works in my authors note as well as read your works so I can give a great and honest review! So, ready, set, and...go!
