Why Sophitz Needed To Happen

Now, before all the Sokeefe shippers come at me with pitchforks and fire, this is not a rant about why Sophitz is better. This isn't really a rant....Oh who am I kidding, all of these are rants. On with the show!!

Ok, so Flashback spoilers.....now.

Sophitz needed to happen. Period.

Honestly, it's about the characters. Sophie and Fitz needed to get together so they could both grow from the experience. I'll talk about Sophie first because, well, this is gonna get interesting.

So as we no doubt have all picked up on, Sophie hasn't changed since book 1. Which in terms of main characters, is a problem. A big one. But honestly, I think Sophitz will solve that.

Sophie's crush on Fitz has been a major part of her life and the story since the first moment she met him. She's been severely caught up in which boy she loves, Keefe or Fitz, and its been distracting her a lot--so much that even Marella, who had been there for all of a few months, told her not to get angsty over who she loved. And thank gosh for her, because I can't go in and tell Sophie that myself.

But she finally chose somebody, and of course, it was the person she has the most obvious crush on. And she is dedicated. It's not one of those relationships where you realize pretty fast you've made a mistake--no, she really does value Fitz's opinion and his affection. He's going to be a more major part in her decision making, and maybe it'll teach her that she really can step up and take charge, and that she just needs a little help along the way. Someone she can confess all her worries to and make sure that she's making the right choice, or someone to make her see every side and make sure she's considering everything. And yeah, I know, that could be Keefe, but I kind of want to bring up that theory that every Sokeefe shipper brings up--the head over heart--and twist it a bit.

I firmly believe Sophie loves Fitz with her mind, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. After all, isn't that how it starts with most people? You become attracted to someone, and then you get to know them. There's no reason to believe her affection for Fitz stays on some isolated dusty plain with no depth. Sophie's mind and heart are at odds with each other a lot, and she tends to ignore other people's feelings. She didn't consider Tam's dilemma when Lady Gisela threatened to kill his sister and the alicorns, she didn't consider how Marella felt being left behind while Sophie ran off with her new friends. Having a boyfriend will force her to acknowledge his feelings to preserve the relationship, and in doing so, she might start to realize how her decisions are affecting others, and make her a better leader.

"But why can't it be Keefe???" I can hear you asking. Well, good people, I'll tell you.

Keefe is too selfless.

Now let me get one thing straight--Fitz is not selfish. But Keefe would let Sophie do whatever she wanted to him as long as she's happy. Fitz will stand up for himself if Sophie doesn't recognize how he feels, but still be there for her. Sophie needs him to do what no one else has--stand up for themselves against her. It'll teach her to take criticism, which she has no idea how to do cuz no one gives it to her *cough* Alden Della Edaline and Gady *cough*. It will make her a better person.

And Fitz, like I've said many times, needs Sophie's support, because she's the only one that can get through to him. He needs her, and when he finds out she's a bad match, it might even grow Sophie character more if she has to stand up for herself against Fitz. Or, Fitz will realize that he values Sophie too much to let that get in the way, and his character will grow.

Yeah, that made no sense whatsoever. Oh well!
