Okay, so the previous part was my personal opinion on how much I enjoyed reading about the characters. This part is going to be as objective as possible, and it's going to be about the actual writing and character development, despite how much I like them.

10. Sophie

Severe lack of character development for a main character, I've already mentioned that. The other biggest problem I have with her is how she deals with her problems...or that fact that she doesn't. She hides, drinks sedatives for days, breaks down....I understand that she has anxiety, and I'm totally cool with that!! Believe me, I am. It's not really the severely of her reactions that gets me, but how long they last. And the fact that everybody treats her like a snowflake who can do no wrong doesn't really help either....that's why I was so thankful for Bronte in Legacy, he was the only one who told Sophie that she needed to step it up

9. Wylie

We don't really know much about Wylie, but his angry and bitter personality from the early books seems really at odds with the kind, caring guy we see in Legacy. Of course, like I said, I can't really judge since we don't really know him, which is one of the reasons he's so low.

8. Fitz

Yes, I love Fitz, but the inconsistencies between his character in the first book and now is just....not great. What happened to Fitz seemed like anti-character development; he seemed to get leeched of his unique personality into a smiling teal eyed....i don't wanna say doll, but almost. Yes, with Alvar, we got to see a more ruthless side of him, but honestly, we haven't gotten much character development from Fitz in a very long time.

7. Linh

Again, I love Linh!!!i really do!! But she just has a lack of character development, and it makes me really sad, cuz she has so much potential!! Think of a dark side to Linh and how interesting it would be to see her angry! Imagine her getting angry at glimmer because she believes that glimmer's trying to come between her and her brother! Imagine her getting frustrated at Tam because he's withdrawing and not talking to her and trusting her like he used to. We got an inkling or this at the end of Legacy, but I'd really love to see more

6. Marella

Marella is actually the first person we see get upset with Sophie over how she treats people. She's angry that she got left behind, so she goes to Stina, and she kind of vanishes for several books after that. When she comes back, we see that she's developed as a pyrokinetic. Honestly, I'd love to see more of how that's affecting her and her family, but we did see her a little upset about how she wouldn't be allowed into the nobility or the elite levels. But again, consistent character and appropriate amount of development for a side character. (I had a really good reason for where she was but I forgot it DX)

5. Dex

Dex is awesome guys. He was the only one to dislike the Vackers, which gave a lot of uniqueness to his character. Up until Legacy, his character has been really consistent, and just like several other characters, he feels like someone you could bump into on the street. He's a dorky technopath, and we also get to see how his ability affects his relationship with Sophie and everyone else. He seems to be the only one besides Sophie who doesn't want to register for a match because of how it affected his parents. He's unique in the Elgin society, and it's really cool. 

4. Tam

Guys, the only reason Tam is fourth is because of how new he is. His character is consistent, I've already mentioned how real his actions are dialogue feel (despite the occasional cliche angsty boi XD). He got a little bit of development in Nightfall while he and the others were at Choralmere, and some more during Flashback while he was learning Shadowflux. And how could I possibly forget his AMAZING pov chapter?? But aside from that, we don't see any significant development or changes, which is totally okay!! He's not a main character and honestly, aside from learning more about his and Linh's home life before Exillium, I'm good with where we are. 

3. Biana

Another case of complete turnaround (that's not a word, Silver). Biana started out being a minor antagonist for Sophie, but she had a good reason, and that reason that made sense with who she was and who her brother was. Even after She changed, her character has been extremely consistent, and she's such a strong character that is honestly missing from a lot of fantasy and sci-fi genres (mostly young adult fiction, but some juvenile fiction as well). She's a wonderful counter for Sophie, and that's extremely important, not to mention her super fun personality.

2. Stina

Guys talk about character development. Stina goes from being Sophie's bully to being one of Sophie's friends. Now, she honestly would've been lower if that was where her development ended, but even in the early books, Stina shows that she's not all bad. She defends Marella when Sophie tries to "reconcile" with her, and she has a good reason for why she disliked Sophie so much (I don't remember that reason, but I remember it was there). She's been a great character throughout the series, and now, she's one of my favorites. 

Honorable Mentions: Maruca and Jensi

I feel bad ranking them on writing since we barely see them, so it just didn't seem fair to put them in the actual ranking.....

1. Keefe

Despite my personal feelings about him, Keefe is an amazingly written character. He's got super awesome character development throughout the series, his personality and actions are consistent, and he reacts to things like a real person would. His backstory is fleshed out and realistic (with his parental dynamic, not exactly the whole Neverseen thing, cuz that doesn't happen in real life, but you guys know what I mean XD). He was also the first to get a pov chapter, which may not seem important, but it gave us even more insight into his character and how he felt about Sophie and all that. Yes, his character trope is pretty cliche, but he himself is not, and for that, I have to give him and Shannon credit.
