Never Again

Keefe lurched back with a cry, away from the screen and the monstrous face upon it. The entire couch moved, upsetting Fitz's arm, (which had been carefully placed around Sophie's shoulder, unbeknownst to her), and nearly sending Dex toppling to the floor.

"Keefe," Fitz grumbled.

"Sorry! I got scared," Keefe protested, turning to Sophie with a grin. "Will you hold me, Foster?"

"Shut up and watch the movie, lovebirds," Tam called from the floor, his amused tone turning into a noise of protest as Keefe's foot connected with his arm.

Mr. Forkle had insisted that the crew have some time off, claiming that they needed to be normal teenagers for a day. Keefe had grilled Sophie for human traditions, jumping immediately on the idea of a movie sleepover. Dex took everyone to his stash of human movies, but unfortunately for everyone, the boys got there first. Keefe returned with an armful of DVDs and convinced everyone to have a horror movie marathon.

And now everybody was regretting ever listening to Keefe.

"Do you guys do this often?" Wylie asked from his place in a chair. Linh had climbed into his lap after the first jump scare, and had been there ever since.

"Thankfully no," Dex told him, pulling himself back onto the arm of the couch. "It's usually a lot--AGH!"

Another collective scream. Keefe shoved his face into Sophie's shoulder, who unconsciously gripped Fitz's arm. Fitz turned, realizing he had no one to hold onto, and Dex lurched back, yelling some elvin curse about yetis. Linh buried her face into Wylie's chest as Biana latched onto the closest person--which happened to be Tam, who turned bright red.

"Humans do this for fun?" Biana asked incredulously, her voice considerably higher than normal.

"Look at all the blood," Linh whispered.

"Yeah, who's stupid idea was this?" Keefe demanded, and everybody turned to look at him with a variety or expressions--none of them were friendly. "Oh. Right."

Sophie sighed. "I think we all learned our lesson."

Another jump scare, triggering one more round of screaming. Everyone looked at each other, and came to a silent agreement.

Never again.

Sorry, I know that was short and pretty choppy. I'm not used to writing in third, and this is only my second time. Hopefully I get better.
