Chapter 4
*not edited*
"Are you ok Sophie?" Biana asked worriedly. "You look kind of sick."
As the fuzzy feeling faded away, she took in a breath of fresh air, nodding. "Y-yeah... I'm fine. Don't worry."
Biana walked over, vanishing and reappearing with each step. She held onto Sophie's arm. "I don't think you are fine. Come sit down." She led her around the mansion and showed her a garden, which had a bench in it.
The garden was giant and beautiful, like all things in the Lost Cities, and contained more than just the normal flowers. It had strange fruits and vegetables everywhere, and hummingbirds flying in the air. She swore there was a moonlark somewhere, too.
Sophie sat down on the bench, not surprised when it seemed to move and change its shape so she could sit comfortably. I knew I would embarrass myself. Can't I ever just spend time with my friends and not get hurt!?
Biana next to her. "You look tense. Is something bothering you?"
She sighed, deciding she should tell her. "When I leaped here to Everglen, my head felt fuzzy. I was nervous because I thought I had faded again. But the feeling went away and I was fine. Then, just before, I felt dizzy again. And I don't know why." She realized that she wasn't breathing as black dots flew around in her vision. She breathed in, then out, leaning against Biana. "I think I'm overreacting."
She was more than overreacting. She was panicking, anxious. There was no reason for her to be, besides her head getting fuzzy, but it was causing a problem.
"You're not overreacting. I think maybe something is bothering you subconsciously and we don't know what it is," Biana stated. "Maybe you should go home. I'll help you." She reached for Sophie's hand.
She yanked it away, standing quickly. She wasn't ruining the fun. "No!" She exclaimed. "I don't need help and I'm not going home." She swayed and quickly sat down again. Maybe she should.
Dex suddenly appeared as he ran out of some bushes. He stood triumphantly. "You two didn't even try!" His smirk vanished as he noticed Sophie looking pale. "Hey, are you ok?"
"Everyone stop asking me that!"
"But your-"
"I'm fine." She huffed, standing again. "If you're going to ruin the fun by worrying about me, maybe I should leave." She didn't need to ruin the day because her body couldn't let her be happy and comfortable.
Before anyone could say anything, she light leaped away.
Back at Havenfield, Sophie was surprised to see Linh helping Grady with the grindylows, an alien-like bright orange and striped creature (which Sophie used to think were green) with tentacles. Hurrying over, she watched as Linh used her ability to calm the demonic creatures in a way that she would never have been able to do, and had never expected to do. Those little guys may have a cute-weird face, but they were not easy to control.
Grady watched the silver-eyed girl in amazement. "Wow..." he said as the grindylows ate their food as calmly as an alicorn. "That was pretty amazing."
Linh's pretty face tinted pink as she blushed. "It was not a problem," she did a half-bow before turning to Sophie. "Hello."
"Hi, Linh," she greeted in return. "I've never known someone to be able to calm those guys! Are you sure that you don't want to work at the Sanctuary?"
No matter how often Sophie tried to persuade her friend to choose a job at the wondrous Sanctuary, there was no changing her mind. Linh was set on being a Coach at Exillium.
The school for the "Unworthy" was still standing, though it wasn't as strict as it once was. The Waywards were allowed to share their names, and when acquiring a new skill, it was much gentler on their bodies.
Linh nodded a little. "I want to make sure that each Wayward feels special and not like an outcast as they are made to feel. "
Sophie understood. Linh was so sure about this, and it would especially help since she had been in through the same thing.
The girl and her twin had joined Foxfire soon after everything with the Neverseen had ended. It had taken them a long time to get used to the looks and whispering, and getting used to having classes in a building- the same building- every day. But now, with the help of their friends, they were able to go to school and learn comfortably, also able to find their place in society again.
"What are you doing here? Don't tell me you came just to visit those crazy animals," Sophie said.
The girl shook her head. "No. I came to spend time with you. You and I never seem to spend time together alone."
Sophie nodded in agreement. The two girls didn't seem as close, partially because Linh was quiet and Sophie was always distracted by other things.
"Well.... why don't we go inside?" She suggested to Linh, heading towards the house.
Linh nodded, and the two walked inside, immediately running upstairs to Sophie's room so the wouldn't be bothered.
Sophie still did NOT want to have "the talk". That would be super embarrassing with Linh there.
She sighed when she noticed the scroll sitting on her desk, golden letters were scrawled across the paper, reading "Match Making".
Sophie let out a groan. "Why can't this wait?"
Linh looked over. SHe had been watching Iggy's cage. "What are you talking about?"
"My scroll for matchmaking came. I'll probably have to fill out my packet soon..."
Linh gave her a small smile. "I remember filling out mine. It took forever."
Sophie groaned again, ignoring the scroll and walking over by Linh. "Do you want to hold Iggy?" she asked, changing the subject.
A frown appeared on Linh's face. "I don't think that I should..."
"Why?"
"I think Iggy is sick."
A/N: Sorry. The ending seems pretty rushed. Because it is. And sorry if I messed up any details. Anyway, this is the start of updating my stories on a schedule. Make sure to check it out in my newest art book!
