Chapter 3

*not edited*

A/N Sorry for such a long wait! I am procrastinating on the fourth chapter but it will be out soon. I hope you enjoy this!

As Sophie gathered her treats for the fun she was about to have with her friends, she thought about what could happen. What if  I'm still as clumsy as I was in the past?  She thought. What if I mess something up or do something funny or weird? What if I make a huge embarrassment of myself and they don't want to be around me anymore?

Sophie sighed. She knew that they would never stop being her friends. They'd all been through so much together. But who knows. Things change.

Soon, Sophie had a huge cloth bag filled with every treat you could imagine. Except Indigoobers of course. She carried it on her shoulder as she made her way up to the Leapmaster.

Right before the tingling light could carry her away, she heard the soft voice of her mother, Edaline, saying her name. She quickly forgot about the leap and stepped away, towards her mother. "What is it, Mom?" She asked, suddenly anxious. Did something happen?

Edaline gave her a huge smile, which calmed Sophie. "Something came in the mail for you and I wanted to make sure you knew about it. I set it on your desk." She kissed her head. "Have fun and be careful, okay?"

"OK, Mom..." She blinked in confusion. What could be in the mail for her? And why did Edaline want to make sure she knew about it?

Shrugging, she stepped into the light and leaped to Everglen.

As the glowing gates appeared in front of her, her head felt a little fuzzy. She panicked. Did I fade again? That hasn't happened in so long!

Her panic soon ceased as the doors opened for her. Everything was fine. She just wasn't used to the brightness. Besides, if something was wrong, she could just call Elwin.

Elwin, the elf physician with a bright smile and messy hair, was always there for her in times of need. Including ones that had nothing to do with scratches or bruises. He was like a second father- or third, if you count Alden as one- to her and sometimes she wondered if he ever wanted kids, or if he had a family that he came home to everday.

Walking towards the house, a grin started to grow on her face. Her friends were waiting for her. They didn't look worried either, which meant she may have been overreacting before.

Dex ran to meet her, as well as the two Vackers and Keefe.

"You aren't just happy to see me because of the snacks, right?" She asked jokingly.

"I'm just excited for those ripplepuffs! They're my favorite," Fitz grinned.

Her smile shrunk a little. He wasn't excited to see her? No, he must be teasing, she thought. "Well, maybe I forgot them," she replied back. "They aren't really my favorite."

Hurt flashed in his gaze. "Oh... that sucks..."

"Wait!" She said quickly. "I was just joking. As long as you were joking about only being excited about the ripplepuffs."

"Of course I was. I'm not like that. You know that, Soph," He said.

Her heart did that fluttery thing as she handed out the treats. Since when did he call me Soph? She asked herself.

Biana tapped her on the shoulder. "Guess what, Sophie!" She squealed. "The packets for the match making scrolls came! I'm so excited to fill them out."

"You just got them?" Fitz mumbled around a mouth full of candy. "I got mine in level 5."

"Me too," Keefe added distractedly as he searched the package of Prattles.

"Huh. Maybe they're just changing things this year," she shrugged.

"Yeah," Dex said. "I'm not sure if I got mine yet, but I might get it soon," he added.

"Oh well," Fitz shrugged. "Save the embarrassment of your parents talking about 'falling in love' and 'dating' for a little longer."

So that's what Edaline was so smiley about, Sophie groaned.

Keefe laughed. "Have your parents already given you the talk, Foster?" He asked. "Because by the sound of that groan and those emotions flying at me, I'm guessing they did."

"No, they didn't," Sophie replied, crossing her arms. "I'm just... not really excited about that talk. Okay, definitely not excited for that talk."

She took health when she still presumed she was a human. And that experience would haunt her for the rest of her life, which was even more horrible since elves had extremely long lives.

"Ok. Can you stop thinking about what ever you're thinking about?" Keefe asked. "Because I do NOT like that feeling..."

"Sorry... I was just remembering something that I learned about when I was in the Forbidden Cities."

"What were you thinking about?" Fitz asked. "Because by the look on Keefe's face, it must be pretty disgusting."

"Just... never mind," She said quickly. "I don't want to talk about it."

"Let's just start the game," Biana put it. "I'm tired of standing here."

Dex nodded his head in agreement. Though he acted more grown up now, he still got annoyed when Sophie, Fitz and Keefe used their abilities around him. Since their abilities were more with humans and emotions, and his was with gadgets and tools, he never stopped trying to a make a machine that allowed him to have a more special connection with his friends, like telepathy or empathy.

"What are the teams?" Keefe asked. There were five people here. "Three against two doesn't seem fair."

"I can sit out," Fitz said, though it sounded like "Ah an it ow," because his mouth was full of ripplepuffs.

Sophie could tell Keefe and Dex were both holding in laughs.

Biana rolled her eyes, then vanished. She reappeared next to Sophie. "You boys will never grow up, will you?"

Sophie smiled a little, looking at her. "Of course they won't. They're boys. Plus, they're Keefe and Dex. What did you expect?"

"Hey!" Keefe said suddenly, excitedly.. He didn't even try arguing with her. "We could call ourselves... Deefe! Or... Kex!"

"Keefter could work," Dex suggested. "My full name is Dexter."

"We'll be the best team."

The boys high fived each other in agreement before turning back to the other three.

Sophie rolled her eyes, but kept the smile on her face. She was feeling nostalgic, but also felt a new feeling of mirth as she realized how close her friends had actually grown to each other.

As she moved her gaze away from "Keefter", she noticed Fitz watching her. We've grown so close, haven't we?  He transmitted, smiling at her.

Sophie felt her heart do that little fluttery thing again. Why does this keep happening? She asked herself. She hadn't felt her mind feel mushy like this for a long time. Is it because of the scrolls? No. It couldn't be because of the scrolls. Or the packets. She wasn't that type of girl. She sighed, then realized her Fitz was staring at the her with a questioning gaze.

Yes. We have. And I'm so glad that we don't have many disagreements, she finally replied back. "Let's start playing. Find your bases," Sophie added, aloud. As she was turning to find her base with Biana, her mind started to feel fuzzy again.

What's happening to me?

Reminder: Anything that happens is out of my own imagination. If it ends up being in the books, that is a consequence. If it seems to be based off of someone's life, that is also a consequence. Anything that happens in this is based off of book 1 to 4, and doesn't not contain (much) of what happened in book 5. I do not want to spoil anything.
