Warning: Violence and blood
Kira
~
My legs were unsteady as I pulled myself back into a standing position. I rubbed the back of my head which had connected with the wall.
No blood.
'Your body's pain resistance has been increased.' Lucifer informed once again. It was nice to know I'd have to be thrown around a bit more before I began to bleed but I guess it would be best to avoid being thrown around at all.
I took a fighting stance, unready to show weakness this early in the fight, maybe I could threaten him. I opened my mouth to say something about when I was cut off instead of.
"Look who finally decided to show up, what took you so long, Demon Keeper?" He leered at me.
I said nothing, glaring at him while also searching for a means of escape.
"Were our new Jorōgumo that hard to handle, that you had to hide to heal? Well now, I get the chance to take you out my-" he stopped speaking, his gaze narrowing in obvious question, "You're not the one I fought last."
It was a statement, not a question. Did I stink of novice juice or something?
Before he could react, I threw myself at him and went in for a kick which he dodged. I landed and avoided the hand he reached out to grab me as I danced through the air.
My agility as well had taken a boost. I wanted to be happy but I was staring death in the face at the moment.
"You are new aren't you? And the old chick, where is she?"
"Take a guess you disgusting monster." I spat taking out two knives, one in a regular grip and the other one in a reverse. I lunged at him again, if I could just immobilize him I'd have the chance to run and vanish into the crowd that was probably outside the cemetery, drawn in by the police.
"Dead, huh? That's too bad, I had a bone to pick with that one but I guess you'll have to do." He grabbed my hand, about to hold me down but I made a quick spin so I stab his side instead. I heard his growl as I pulled away.
"Filthy." I hissed, shaking blood off the knife. I turned to face him, "There's a more where that came from, best you surrender."
Silence at first.
Followed by a harsh blood-curdling bark of laughter that instantly filled me with dread.
Shit. He'd probably seen through me.
"You've been Demona for how long exactly? Less than twenty-four hours. And you think you can defeat me?"
I said nothing, sweat dripping down my forehead in torrents as I remained on guard.
The air began to hum and throb, reddening and drawing towards Belzeblub, two lumps burst from his head, curving into jagged horns and his fingers became claws that glinted like fine steel.
I stepped back a bit, definitely not expecting that. This was getting really scary as it was really irritating.
"You being new makes my job much easier. I wonder what the boss will make of this."
"Like I'll let you take me."
"You have no choice in this girlie, you're weak." As if to make a point, he moved at the speed of light and body slammed me into the fallen debris, "And inexperienced." I barely managed to roll away as his foot came crashing into the spot I lay previously.
I ran to the other end of the room, more terrified than I let on as I watched him shake the dust from his boot. His eyes landed on me.
"It's best if you surrender, with or without you, the boss's plan will succeed."
"I have a feeling I wouldn't like his plan."
Belzeblub grinned evilly, "Too bad, you had the chance to become a powerful ally."
I steeled myself for the long battle ahead. Thing was, our fight could hardly be called a battle. Most of it consisted of Belzeblub bodily slamming me through walls.
Getting back up quickly became a problem. My speed had increased but he was just too quick for my eyes to follow. My counters became sluggish and due to my fatigue, the slashes I managed to get in were shallow, nowhere near fatal.
A glow in his hand caught my attention, A burning red sphere that radiated ominous energy. Before I could think of running, he threw it.
The world flashed by in a blur as I flew backward through several walls, probably three at most. I landed with a sharp thud against maybe the fourth or fifth one.
A few bricks fell onto my weak body, halting my movements.
Get up Kira, I told myself, You can't die here.
'If you let me take over, I can help.' Lucifer's voice was a tempting hum in the back of my head.
My instincts screamed at me to not listen after seeing what ignoring them in that alley had done to my life, I decided to obey and serve them from now on.
"Don't tell me you're that weak, new Protector of the Seal," Belzeblub called approaching me.
"Shut up and give me some advice here." I spat at Lucifer, coughing up some blood along the line.
'What do you want me to do, child? He is right, you know.' The bastard freaking laughed, it echoed in my head, 'You're nothing but a weak, spoiled brat. Trying to hold on to something she can't have.'
"I didn't choose to become Demona."
'Neither did the others, they all accepted this was what life held for them. Your destiny from now on was to do this and if you had just agreed to cut ties as I told you, you wouldn't have to prove yourself.' Lucifer said in the most condescending tone I had ever heard, it almost made me feel guilty.
Almost.
A sad smile made its way to my face, "And you expect me to just take it?" I felt it, his surprise at the way I spoke, but I was angry at and sorry for, the suckers that had just taken this shit job like it was a family heirloom, "Life's been giving me shit for a long time, Lucifer. I may be rich now but I've never had it easy, I'm happy with the life I have with my family and I refuse to give that up." I clenched my fist, struggling to pull myself out from underneath the rubble. I had a good father waiting up for me to return, and I had two new friends who probably expected to see me tomorrow and meet up with them at a ramen place.
I'm holding you to that.
Like hell, I was going to die now. Tokyo wasn't home but I had just begun a new life here and I'd have to be dead before I let harm come to that.
I chased my own happiness because I damn well deserved it.
A burning heat started up in my right hand, but it wasn't uncomfortable. In fact, it filled me with thrill. Soon the heat hardened, stretching out into a cool sleek staff of dark metal. The air around me exploded, pushing the rocks off me and enabling me to stand.
I felt invigorated, as my breaths came clearer and the feeling of my scratches closing reached me, the low thrum continued through my body.
Power.
I could feel it coursing through me. More than I'd ever felt in my life. I stared at the staff, black, and intricately designed with runes and characters in silver. Beautiful but nothing too special. Just as that thought passed, I noticed two blades emerge from both ends.
I had no idea how to use a double-edged scythe but I did learn how to twirl a baton in middle school.
I spun the staff to test my skills and coupled with the enhancement, it seemed sufficient. I remembered Lucifer saying something about control over the wind. Not sure how that would work but I guess I'd have to figure it out along the way as well.
My attention fell on Belzeblub who was no longer far away.
With renewed vigor, I started our fight on a more offensive stance. I felt a lot lighter than I had before, letting my instincts guide me now. I guessed that was how these new powers would work. I'd train, I'd learn and in battle, I'd trust my instincts to guide my steps.
I could do that.
I brought my weapon down but Belzeblub caught it by the blade, flinging me back. I landed on my feet, taking note the hand he had used was bleeding.
Once again, these blades were damn sharp.
Belzeblub glared at his bleeding palm, red eyes full of pure annoyance. At least now he knew I felt about being tossed around.
"You got lucky."
"Try saying that again when I hack the whole thing off."
"I've had enough of you." He growled deeply before attacking me. I tried to dodge the punch but realized too late it was a diversion. His knee buried itself into my abdomen with extreme force.
I flew up into the ceiling, dropping my weapon from the impact. I fell, only to be caught around the neck.
I gagged for air, hands reaching up to scratch at the arm around my neck.
"Come on girlie, you didn't honestly think you could defeat me, did you?" He was scornful.
I leveled him with an angry gaze which was blurry due to tears gathering in my eyes.
"You did, huh? Lucifer must really have a hold on you, why don't you let him out so we can talk? I just might convince him...or beat his sorry as for going against his kind."
A strained smile pulled at my lips, surprising the demon that held me.
"What's got you smiling?"
"He said, 'Dream on, shitstain.'"
Belzeblub frowned and tightened his hold in hopes of either strangling me or severing my head from my body but almost immediately my staff flew into my arms.
He had been too busy talking smugly to notice I had been trying to move the air. I landed a decisive strike to his elbow.
I dropped to the ground, the lower part of his hand falling with me. I looked up to see him stumbling back and looking at the stub of his arm in surprise. He might have been a demon but that was still a human body he was inhabiting.
I made to get up, this was my chance. The best time to strike. Instead of making it to my feet, I keeled over, dropping back and coughing up blood all over the place.
"Lucifer, explain!" I commanded through strained breaths.
'I knew it was too good to be true, your body is still too weak to withstand the power you're using now. Though it did last longer than I expected it would.' He explained.
If I wasn't coughing up essential body fluids I would have been surprised at how he sounded genuinely impressed.
"Luck. That's all you've got, but now, it's run out."
I looked up to see Belzeblub forming another one of those red spheres in his good hand.
"This is where you meet your en-"
He was cut off by the sound of a loud bang. Lightning, bright and colored in gold, pierced through the ceiling, striking the ground in front of me.
I shielded my eyes from the bright glare and once it died down, I could see a form, draped in a cloak of white and gold. Long blond hair, braided into one long line, blowing in the wind. I caught sight of a beautifully refined face and the glint of a golden cross earring.
Beautiful.
The majestic being raised an arm, a bow, and an arrow seemingly made of light and lightning. Her eyes were locked on Belzeblub who seemed just as confused as I was.
I watched as the arrow soared through the air, the glare growing large and brighter and bursting to full glory as it made an impact.
Once it was gone, I could see Belzeblub's body, scorched and limp on the ground.
I sighed in relief, shakily raising myself to a kneeling position, I looked to the lady in gold and white, "Thanks a lot, Miss, you really saved my life."
"Who said I saved you?"
That definitely wasn't a lady's voice, I squinted closer at the person before me. Looking properly now I could see that they really weren't female, I could be wrong though.
Shit.
I could also see their bow and arrow pointed at me.
Double shit.
"I only took them out so no one would interrupt us. I am God's Divine Messenger, and I order you, Demon Keeper, to lead me to Nightmare." The arrow glowed, and he pointed it straight at my head, "Or die."
Triple shit!
I was excited, so I completed and uploaded this chapter earlier than intended. I'm actually considering daily updates.
