We're Doing Everything We Can
Cedric's P.O.V
"It's been 2 months! Christmas is in 2 days! Where is she? Why haven't they found her yet? My poor baby!" I was ready to rip my hair out. They still hadn't found (Y/N) and everyone was beginning to assume the worst. Where was she? Was she dead?
"We'll find her. We've got to find her. She'll turn up. I know she will. There's no doubt in my mind that we'll find her," Adrian reasoned. It sounded as if he were trying to convince himself more than me. I sighed. I knew we'd find her. Eventually. But the question was, would we find her dead or alive. I shook my head. She was alive. She had to be.
"Boys! Please calm down! I know you're upset but we must stay calm! We'll never get any closer to finding her if we lose our heads," Professor McGonagall cried. We were sitting in her room after class, trying to think of anything that may help us find (Y/N).
Dumbledore had asked us to think of anything that could possibly help us track her down. He had teams of wizards from the Ministry searching for her, but failing to find her. I couldn't handle it much longer. We had to find her. Adrian and Terence sat across from me, rubbing their temples, stressfully. Fred and George hadn't shown up yet and all that was left to do now was wait for them. And wait for her to come home safely.
Finally the twins burst through the doors , sweaty and out of breath. They were dressed in their Quidditch robes. "Sorry we're late! Oliver wouldn't give us a break!" Fred panted, exhausted.
They collapsed down next to me, trying to regain their breaths. Professor McGonagall nodded, as if to excuse them. "Have you thought of anything?" George asked.
"No! And that's what's frustrating! Nobody saw this coming and I doubt she did either. If she had suspicions she probably would've told one of us. Diggory most likely. But she didn't, so we have to assume she didn't expect to be kidnapped. And (Y/N) doesn't meddle very often. So there are absolutely no clues for us to follow!" Terence shouted in frustration.
Fred and George rubbed their chins, thoughtfully. I didn't know what else to do. I just wanted to find my girl and bring her home safely. "What about her room? Have you checked her room for anything useful?" Fred asked carefully.
Professor McGonagall stood abruptly. We all turned toward her, just as the door to her classroom swung open. Professor Snape walked in, carrying 2 large boxes.
"Here's all of Ms. Middlebrook's things. Perhaps you'll find something that could lead us to her. I just emptied her room this morning," Professor Snape said solemnly as he sat down on my other side. He set a gentle hand on my shoulder, startling me. "How are you doing, Diggory? Are you holding up alright?" He was being so kind lately. He must've really cared about (Y/N). More than anyone knew. I shrugged, tears welling in my eyes. I wasn't okay.
"I don't know, Professor. I don't know what to think. I'm trying my hardest not to assume the worst. I just want her to walk through those doors, safe and sound." He nodded stiffly.
"That's what we all want, Cedric. We're doing everything we can. But Professor Sprout has informed Professor Dumbledore that you haven't been eating or sleeping. Is this true?" I averted my eyes. I couldn't bring myself to eat much. Or rest. I was exhausted and I didn't feel healthy at all. But how could I worry about myself when my beautiful girl could be out there dead. I couldn't. She was all I could think about. Every minute of every waking hour. I needed her to be okay.
"I tried to Professor. But I couldn't. Not when she's still missing. I can't think about anything else but her." Professor Snape patted my back gently. Behind us the boys began to dig through her things, looking for clues.
"I know this is hard, Cedric. And I wish I could tell you it got easier but it doesn't. You're going to worry until she returns. That's just the way it is. Because you love her. Everything's more complicated when love is involved. But we will find her. And we're doing everything we can to find her as fast as possible. Now, you may want to help her brothers look for clues."
"How's Matt doing? Is he holding up alright? I haven't seen him around, is he okay?" I asked. I knew that if (Y/N) were here she would want to know how her biological brother was holding up. Matt was her baby brother. She always put him first.
"He's not doing so well. We're keeping him in the Hospital Wing. We've had to force feed him and sedate him. He's really not holding up very well. We've had Adrian and Terence go talk to him but nothing seems to help. I don't think anyone will be able to rest peacefully until we find the poor girl," Professor Snape sighed.
"Professor? You don't think she's...I...um...You don't think that Black's...killed her?" This time I wasn't able to hold back my tears as images of my (Y/N) lying dead somewhere haunted my vision. Snape inhaled sharply.
"I have no idea what to tell you. She could very much be...What I mean to say is that we don't know what's happened. I think it's best if we don't jump to conclusions or make any assumptions. You know (Y/N) Middlebrook better than I think any of us do because she let's you see her vulnerable side. But at the same time you know she's a fighter. And I believe she'll do everything in her power to get back safely."
"You're right. Thank you, Professor. I'll try not to dwell on the worst. My girl would never go down without a fight," I replied trying to convince myself. (Y/N) was a fighter and she had always been very independent. I knew she'd do her best to make sure she came home. Safe. But most importantly, alive.
"Exactly. Don't loose hope, Cedric. But before you go, I found this wedged underneath her mattress. I thought it'd be best if you were the one to read it. She trusts you the most. Please let someone know if you find anything useful," he added as he swept out of the room. Not before he handed me a green leather journal. (Y/N)'s diary.
