She Left This For You
"Diggory? What are you doing here? You said you were going to lie down! Did you find something?" Adrian asked as I burst through the doors out of breath.
"I...Yeah...I...I think...What's that?" I asked, cutting myself off. He was holding a black and yellow book in his hands. Hufflepuff colors. (Y/N) wouldn't be caught dead with anything like that. She was a Slytherin and she was extremely proud.
George crossed the room, walking towards us. He took the book from Adrian and handed it to me. "She left this for you. For Christmas maybe? You should open it. She might've left you a clue or something."
"And even if she didn't, it might make you feel better, Diggory. We didn't open it and if you don't want us to see we'll leave," Fred added. I shook my head. I didn't know what she had in this book, but I couldn't handle being alone with her memories anymore.
I sat down at one of the desks, my hands shaking. The book was heavy but it looked brand new. I untied the ribbon, running my hand over the cover. There was a picture of the 2 of us in our 1st year. One of the very few pictures I had managed to capture in our early years. Her hair was divided into 2 thick braids, a bright smile decorating her features. I was carrying her on my back, my own face a look of pure joy. The picture shifted as I ran across the empty courtyard, her laughing as she held on to me, tightly.
I smiled at the memory. I had stolen her books and I had convinced her that the only way she could get it back was if she let me give her a ride to her next class, given that she was already late. Below the picture was beautifully printed gold writing. Words that made me want to cry even more. The History of Cedric Diggory and (Y/N) Middlebrook. The Greatest Love Story Ever Written. Forever and Always.
She had made a scrapbook for me. A scrapbook of our history together. This was by far the best book I would ever read. I turned to the inside cover, reading her dedication message over and over again.
Cedric. We've come so far since those first years in the train, promising each other things that would shape an entire world for them in the future. But this book is our history. And we have a lot of it. I had to condense it but I hope you know how much you mean to me. And I want you to know that this is only the beginning. We have so much left in us. And I look forward to living it with you by my side. I love you. Forever and always.
I flipped through the rest of the pages of the book, watching the 2 of us age before my eyes. Each photograph growing more intimate and deep. I could almost feel the passion radiating off the pages.
I reached the last page and there was a single slot left, as if she had meant to add a photograph and didn't have time. I turned the page over and this time I wasn't able to contain my tears. The caption read: Our Wedding Day
Adrian set his hand on my back as he stared at the page. Fred and George sniffed, clearing their throats, choking back their own tears. "She loves you. I hope you know that. You're everything to her and there's not a day that goes by that your not on her mind. (Y/N) has a terrible time showing emotion but your the only exception. When she's with you it's like every emotion she's ever felt is laid out in the open," Adrian mumbled.
I wiped my eyes. We had to find her. I was not going to give up until I brought her home. Not now. Not ever. I was going to find her and I was going to bring her home safely. (Y/N) thought that I deserved more. She was wrong. She deserved so much more. She deserved a future without heartbreak and I was going to give it to her. We were going to fill that page not matter what happened. We were going to get married.
I pulled the photograph out of my robes and handed it to Adrian. He studied it carefully, flipping it over. The picture fell from his hands as he read. She had to be there. I don't know how she could've written that but it was there. And we were going to follow that trail. Dead end or not, it was the only lead we had. And hopefully it's be the right one.
We all exchanged glances as I picked up the photo. And then we took off running. We had to find Dumbledore. He would know what to do. He always knew what to do.
As we ran up the stairs I couldn't help but feel a sudden surge of hope. Could this be the end of a mystery that should've never begun in the first place? I hoped it was. I just wanted to find her. I just wanted her home and safe. I wanted to feel the warmth of her body as she snuggled into me. I wanted to feel her lips on mine as I kissed her. But most of all, I wanted to feel my heart swell with love when I finally got to hold her again.
She had to be alright. She had to be. We were going to find her and everything would be right in the world. The moment we found her I was never going to let her out of my sight again. I couldn't loose her again. I could practically see the moment we found her. Down to every last detail. She would be overjoyed. Everyone would be. She would rush into my open arms, not caring who saw and I would carry her all the way back to the castle. I knew her boys would be dying to see her but I wouldn't want to let go.
But the first step was getting to her. And as fast as possible. Every second we wasted was another second we were risking her life. I ran faster, propelling myself towards Dumbledore's office, towards my baby girl. I hoped.
