Meet Your New Head Boy And Girl!
The chatter around you was deafening as students shoveled food into their mouths. You kept stealing glances at your boyfriend as you picked at your own meal. He would look up at you every few minutes, as if to reassure you he was still there but his expression was no longer full of love and warmth, like usual. Terence nudged you gently as you continued to stare at your dinner. It suddenly seemed unappetizing.
"Why aren't you eating? You've barely touched anything on your plate! Don't make me get up and go tell your boyfriend that you're starving yourself!"
"I just don't feel like eating. And besides, he wouldn't care. I don't know, I was looking forward to the feast ever since we got on the train and all of the sudden I can't even look at the food," You sighed as you pushed your dinner around on the plate. Terence sighed as he stared at you in deep concern.
"Tell me the real reason! And be honest with me! The only two times you don't eat are when we have a match or when your worried about your overly-perfect boyfriend. And considereing we don't have a Quidditch Match any time soon, I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that it's the second one. What happened?" Terence asked knowingly.
"Other than me calling a girl he knew really well a bitch and then punching her in the face? Nothing! Absolutely nothing! He barely said anything to me the rest of the way to school! I can't believe I was so stupid!" You cried as you laid your head on Terence's shoulder.
"I don't get it! He hates her! She threatened your life and we all know, he puts you before everything! He would rather die than see anything happen to you! I-" But Terence was abruptly cut off my Dumbledore, who was now getting ready to speak.
"Attention Students! It is my painful duty to inform you that the Inter-House Quidditch Cup will not take place this year..." Several students gasped as a look of horror spread across your features. They couldn't cancel Quidditch. You lived to play Quidditch. You looked around, to find many of your classmates as outraged as you were. Dumbledore sighed but went on. "This is due to an event we will be starting in October and continuing through the rest of the school year, taking up much of the teacher's time and energy, but I am sure you will all enjoy it immesnlsy. I have great pleasure in annoucing that this year at Hogwarts-"
But before Dumbledore could finish the doors to the Great Hall opened with a bang. A hooded figure stood in the doorway, leaning heavily on a large wooden staff. The figure stripped themselves of their hood and everyone gasped. The man had a large mane of sandy-gray hair and his face looked as if it had been mutilated several times over again. But the most off-putting feature on the man's face, were his eyes. While one of his eyes was intact, the other, a bright electric blue, was held in place by a large gold ring. It kept rolling from side to side, restlessly as if it wasn't attached to the man's head.
The man sneered as he began to walk towards the staff table, each step he took ended with a loud metallic clunk. He limped his way to the front of the Great Hall, stopping only to exchange a few words with the Headmaster. Dumbledore nodded and cleared his throat.
"Students! I would like to introduce to you, your new Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor! Allistor Moody!" An eerie silence hung in the air as everyone continued to stare at the strange man and his restless, spinning, blue eyeball.
"As I was saying, we have the honor of hosting an extremely exciting event over the upcoming months, an event that has not been held in over a century! It is my very great pleasure to inform you that the Triwizard Tournament will be taking place at Hogwarts!" An uproar flowed throughout the crowds as the students buzzed excitedly.
"For those of you who do not know the Triwizard Tournament was first established some seven hundred years ago, as a friendly competition between the three largest European schools of wizardry – Hogwarts, Beauxbatons, and Durmstrang. A champion was selected to represent each school, and the three champions competed in three magical tasks. The tournament however was discontinued due to the alarming amount of deaths. However, this year we were able to reorganize the tournament, in which no student shall be in any mortal danger. Students from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang will be arriving in the month of October and all three chapions will be chosen on Halloween night. Eager as you all may be to enter, it has been decided, for safety precautions as well as the required skill needed for the tasks, that no one under the age of seventeen will be allowed to compete," Dumbledore concluded.
Many of your fellow classmates erupted into fits of anger and rage but all you could do was sit and stare off into space, indifferent about the entire event. Dumbledore sighed but raised his hands again, signaling for the Hall to quiet down.
"Yes! I uunderstand that I've disappointed many of you but it's for the best! Now that we have that cleared out of the way, I have one last annoucement to make! As you may have realized, our previous Head Boy and Girl have graduated in the past year so it has come time for me to pick a new pair. And without further adue, your new Head Boy is Mr. Cedric Diggory. And your new Head Girl is Ms. (Y/N) Middlebrook!"
The enitre Great Hall erupted in applause as both you and Cedric stood up nervously and proceeded to the front of the Hall. Dumbledore smiled at you both as he pinned your badges to your robes. You turned around and gave a slight courtsey and Cedric bowed and the students once again burst into a fit of cheers.
"Yes! I know that these two will do great things for this school and I hope that you will all make an effort in congratulating them later! Until then, that has been enough excitement for one night and it is all time for you to return to bed! Mr. Diggory and Ms. Middlebrook if you wouldn't mind waiting I have to discuss somethings with the two of you," Dumbeldore finished as hundreds of students got to their feet and headed towards the entrace of the Hall.
You sent a longing glance at your boyfriend, wishing he would say something but he wouldn't even look at you. Sighing, you turned away in utter defeat. What was going on? What was he thinking?
