I Don't Know How To Swim!
Cedric's P.O.V
I was going insane! I couldn't do this! I just couldn't! Not without her! She was the only thing I could think about! My life revolved around her! And now I was supposed to complete one of the hardest tasks of my life without my girl? How was I supposed to concentrate without her?
"Diggory! Have you seen (Y/N/N)?!" Terence shouted as he ran down the hill and climbed into a boat next to me. I frowned in confusion as I rubbed my neck.
"What do you mean? I thought she was helping McGonagall with some kind of project," I relied as the boat began to transport us towards the middle of the lake. Terence's brows knitted together in confusion as he shook his head.
"Dude! McGonagall has been preparing the tournament tasks for the last few months! She's had no time to assign any extra projects! And besides, (Y/N) has a perfect grade in Transfiguration! She doesn't need extra points," Terence replied.
"That can't be right! She'd never lie to me! This is my fiancé we're talking about!" I replied in utter disbelief as Terence rubbed his chin in deep thought.
"No, you're right, she wouldn't lie to you. Ever. Unless...Unless...What...What did you say you're task was?" Terence asked as I shook my head in deep thought.
"Mermaids...They...They took something...a treasure...the egg said that it was going to be something that meant a lot to us...and we had to retrieve it before time ran out..." I replied quietly.
"Dude! How could we have been so blind?! Don't you see?! Nothing means more to you than (Y/N)! Nothing! And I heard that Harry couldn't find the nerdy girl or the ginger, who just happen to be his two best friends! And that French girl, couldn't find her sister! Diggory! You're treasure, it's the person who means the most to you! And in your case, it's your fiancé," Terence exclaimed urgently as I shook my head rapidly and raked my hands through my curls.
"No! No! Oh My God! Terence! Do you realize how bad this is?! Oh My God! Your baby sister is at the bottom of the lake! Oh My God!" I shouted, just as the boat came to an abrupt stop in the center of the lake. Terence sighed as he patted me on the back.
"She'll be fine because you're going to save her! And that's why she was so calm about all of this! Because she has faith in you! And you'd best not let her down!" Terence replied as we scrambled out of the boat and made our way onto the platform.
"I won't! I could never! Not when she's in danger!" I replied as Terence made his way up the rickety staircase.
Dumbledore made his way up to me as I readied myself at the edge of the platform, nervously. He set a steady hand on my back as I inhaled sharply.
"You know? You know what your treasure is, don't you?" Dumbledore whispered as I quickly wiped a tear off of my cheek. Dumbledore sighed sadly.
"She's down there, isn't she?" I asked quietly as I tried to control all the emotions raging inside my head. Dumbledore sighed again as he nodded, cautiously.
"But I can assure you that no harm will come to her! She will be just fine! Now, you'd best get yourself ready! Good luck, Mr. Diggory!" Dumbledore replied softly as he stepped away from me and coved towards the center of the platform.
"Ladies and Gentlemen! If I may have your attention! Last night, something was stolen from each of our champions and placed at the bottom of the lake! A treasure of sorts! It is now their job to find their lost treasure and bring it back to the surface safely! At the sound of the canon the second task will begin!" Dumbledore announced loudly just as the deafening sound of an explosion sounded somewhere in the distance.
I inhaled sharply as I ripped out my wand, my hands shaking, and quickly cast my Bubble-Head charm. I sucked in a deep breath and dove into the water.
The lake was freezing as I was suddenly immersed in an underwater landscape. I looked around frantically and began swimming. The sooner I found my fiancé the better I'd feel.
I kicked my legs as fast as I could, swimming through a forest of seaweed. I tried to keep my breathing even as I swam faster and faster. Where was she?
I finally pushed myself out of the kelp, slowly untangling myself, only to stumble into a large clearing, surrounded by rocks. I rubbed my eyes as I swam into the clearing. I pushed my way through the murky water. Where was she? As I got closer, four shadowy figures appeared in front of me.
I came to an abrupt stop, squinting to see, just as a gasp escaped my lips. (Y/N). She was floating in the middle of the lake. I inhaled sharply and looked around. Ten creatures were swarming around my fiancé. I sucked in a deep breath. Mermaids.
Come on , Cedric! Come on! You have to save her! Come on! You can do it! I tired to convince myself as I swam towards my (Y/N). I swam closer to the floating bodies, finding Harry arguing with a mermaid.
I yanked out my wand just and pointed at the rope tied around (Y/N)'s ankle, breaking it with a simple spell. Harry spun around, just as I darted towards my fiancé and wrapped a strong arm around her tiny wait. Harry looked at me in confusion as he reached for his own wand cautiously.
I sighed as I pointed the tip of my wand at the watch fastened around my wrist. He was running out of time. He nodded as I tightened my hold on (Y/N)'s waist. I sucked in another deep breath as I began to propel myself up, towards the surface.
My legs ached as I continued to push myself upwards. I breathed heavily as I dragged my fiancé behind me. I didn't know how much longer she could make it. Just as I was about to break the surface, a tug on my leg pulled me back down.
I peered down into the deep water, searching for the source of the of the tug. Squinting around frantically, I came to face with a Grindylow. Dammit. This was just what I needed. I sucked in another unsteady breath as I fought the creature off my leg, trying not to lose my grip on (Y/N)'s waist.
The small creature finally released my leg, making me sigh with relief. I looked down at my watch nervously. I had five minutes to get back up there. Breathing hard, I kicked my way up to the surface.
I gasped for air as my head broke through the watery barrier. Next to me, (Y/N) began to cough and spit up water. Her eyes fluttered open as she looked around. I kept a firm arm wrapped around her as I wiped the water out of her eyes.
She coughed even harder as I began to shift towards the platforms. She gripped my arm tightly as she attempted to rid her lungs of the lake water. I did my best to hold on to her but it was too hard to swim at the same time. She was going to have to swim.
"Baby! Hey! It's okay! You're safe now! I've got you! You're safe! Come on, sweetheart, we've got to get you back to the platform! Come on, baby girl, you've got to swim! You've got to let go of me!" I pleaded as I struggled to keep my head above water.
My fiancé looked at me, frantically, as I continued to urge her towards the docks. She shook her head rapidly as she tightened her grip on my arm. She shook violently from the cold as she tried to get her words out. "Cedric! I don't know how to swim!"
