on the way to CHAOS
The bus ride to the USJ was buzzing with excitement. Everyone was chattering away, their voices blending into a chaotic hum of enthusiasm. I sat near the window, watching the scenery blur by as my classmates discussed their plans for the field trip.
"I heard the flood zone is insane," Kaminari said, practically bouncing in his seat. "Like, you have to save someone while swimming through rushing water."
"That's not a challenge for me," Tsuyu replied casually, her hand resting on her cheek. "Swimming is my specialty, kero."
"You guys are overthinking it," Kirishima chimed in. "The landslide zone sounds way cooler. Just punch through the rocks and save the day!"
Iida adjusted his glasses, his posture rigid as always. "Remember, this isn't a competition. It's a training exercise meant to hone our skills in rescue situations. We must treat it with the seriousness it deserves."
Beside him, Uraraka was practically vibrating with energy. "I'm just excited to try it all! It feels like we're real heroes already."
Their energy was infectious, but I couldn't shake this weird feeling in my gut. Something was... off. I didn't know what it was, but it felt like a faint itch at the back of my mind that I couldn't scratch. My eyes flicked around the bus, taking in the cheerful faces of my classmates, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
"Hey, Deku." Bakugo nudged me from the seat across the aisle. "What's with the long face? Nervous about getting a bad grade or something?"
I blinked, snapping out of my thoughts. "No, it's not that. I just... I don't know. Something feels weird."
Bakugo raised an eyebrow. "Weird how?"
"I can't explain it," I admitted, rubbing the back of my neck. "It's just a feeling."
"Well, don't let it get to you," he said, flashing me a grin. "This is supposed to be fun, remember? Besides, you've got the best parkour skills in the class. If anyone can handle whatever's coming, it's you."
"Yeah, maybe," I said, forcing a small smile.
When we arrived at the USJ, the sheer size of the facility was breathtaking. The massive dome loomed over us, its glass walls reflecting the sunlight like a beacon. A series of distinct zones stretched out inside, each one meticulously designed to simulate a different disaster scenario. From the raging rapids of the flood zone to the crumbling structures of the landslide area, it was clear that this wasn't going to be your average field trip.
"Welcome to the Unforeseen Simulation Joint," Aizawa announced, his voice as monotone as ever. "This is where you'll learn how to handle rescue operations in extreme conditions. Listen to the staff, follow the rules, and try not to embarrass yourselves."
"Sensei, you make it sound so exciting," Kaminari said with a smirk, earning a few chuckles from the class.
Aizawa ignored him. "Your guide for today will be Thirteen. Pay attention to their instructions."
Thirteen stepped forward, their black-and-white space-themed costume gleaming under the sunlight. "Hello, everyone! It's great to see you all here. Today, you'll be practicing how to save people in disaster scenarios while keeping yourself safe. Remember, even heroes can't help others if they don't take care of themselves first."
Their words were inspiring, but I couldn't focus. That strange feeling was back, stronger now. My eyes darted around the dome, scanning for... what, exactly? I wasn't sure. Everything looked fine. The staff were smiling, my classmates were excited, and the zones were as impressive as I'd imagined. But still, something didn't sit right.
As we began walking toward the main entrance, I found myself lagging behind the group, my eyes drawn to the glass dome above us. Was it just my imagination, or had something flickered up there? A shadow, maybe?
"Midoriya, stop dawdling," Aizawa called, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"Y-Yes, sensei," I said, jogging to catch up with the others. I shook my head, trying to push the unease aside. It was probably nothing. Just nerves.
Right?
Inside the USJ, the atmosphere was electric. Thirteen was explaining the different zones in detail, their enthusiasm contagious. My classmates hung onto every word, their eyes wide with anticipation. Even Bakugo seemed interested, though he masked it with his usual scowl.
"And remember," Thirteen said, "the goal here isn't to show off. It's to learn how to save lives. Focus on teamwork, quick thinking, and strategy."
I nodded along with the others, trying to absorb as much as I could. But that nagging feeling wouldn't go away. My fingers tapped against my thigh as I shifted my weight from foot to foot, my eyes scanning the facility again. Nothing seemed out of place, but the sensation of being watched was unmistakable.
"Deku," Uraraka whispered, leaning over. "You okay? You look a little... tense."
"Huh? Oh, yeah, I'm fine," I said quickly, forcing a smile. "Just... excited, I guess."
"Don't overthink it," she said, patting my shoulder. "This is gonna be awesome."
I nodded, but her reassurance did little to calm my nerves. Something was wrong—I was sure of it.
