Chapter 1

Flashback

I finished my dance and ran off the stage as everyone was applauding. That was my last dance at the studio, before I went off to New York to find a new studio. "You are quite talented, you should try out for the New York dance company." I look over to see my idol, Julianne Hough.

"Oh my gosh, you inspired me! I am your biggest fan!" I gush as I shake her hand. "The New York dance company is a place for very talented dancers, such as you." I smile. "That means so much coming from you."

Julianne smiles and walks away, "You have great potential"

Flashback Ends

My body flowed along with the music like it was water. Each move just came out without thinking. An arabesque, a pirouette. It just came like it was natural. The music ends, and I curtsy and calmly walk to the side of the classroom.

"Impressive improv Natasha. Go find your place at the barre." I sighed. How many times have I told Miss Wilkins to call me Nat? At least 15 times this month.

"Now dancers, auditions for the contemporary solo are tomorrow in the jazz studio on the first floor."

This is my chance to finally get the solo! For years I've tried to get every solo but I always come out 3rd. The bell rings and I throw my bag over my shoulder and start to leave the room when Miss Wilkins calls my name. "Natasha!"

I groan and turn around, "Yes Miss Wilkins?" I ask in a sweet and innocent voice. "This is one of your last chances. If you get this solo, you could become famous. If you don't, the future you wish may not come true."

What an encouraging thing to say. "Yes ma'am," I tell her, heading off to my dorm. I shared it with my best friend, Gabby Hanson. "Are you auditioning?" she asks excitedly as I set my stuff next to my bed. "Of course! I'm really worried that I won't make it. Miss Wilkins said if I don't get the part that my whole dance career might not work."

Gabby walks over to my bed and gives me a hug. "Better get to work, if you want to beat Victoria Lynn." Victoria Lynn Bennett was the top dancer of the academy, and the girl who beat me in every audition. She was very rich and the popular girl in the academy.

"I'm gonna go down to the gym and work on my dance." I tell Gabby and leave the room. I walk through the halls and down the steps, into the gym. "Well well well, looks like you're trying to beat Victoria again." Sam teases.

Sam is a great dancer, and he has the biggest crush on me. He has asked many times, and every time he asks I make an excuse.

"So Nat, do you wanna go out to a restaurant after you practice?" he asks, acting smooth. That was it. "How many times do I have to tell you no! All I care about is dance. Dance dance dance! I don't want to spend time with boys. Their distracting! I don't have time for love! I need to dancer because all I care about right now is my future!"

I turn around to notice I was talking to a wall. Sam had ran off. "Sam, I'm sorry okay!" I roll my eyes and start to plan my routine. This was going to be a long night.

The next day because I'm a lazy potato

Victoria does a small kick and ends with a couple fouettes. "Execellent!" Miss Wilkins exclaims as Victoria smirks at me. I stick my tongue out as I stand up. "And last but not least, Natasha."

I step up and do my routine that I had practiced all night. I notice Miss Wilkins looking not so pleased. If only I could quickly add a move that could beat Victoria. Of course! A grand jete is a difficult move, a kick and then you land on your other foot.

I do the best grand jete I can. I kick up gracefully and land on my other foot, trying to be very graceful. I curtsy and walk to the barre.

"I think its clear we have the soloist." I sigh, knowing I had failed once again. "With that grand jete ending, Natasha shall do the solo."

I can't believe my luck. "Thank you so much Miss Wilkins! And everybody, good job. It doesn't mean you failed, it means you're improving."

Victoria rolls her eyes. "Miss Wilkins, my parents can sue you for this. Give me the spot."

Miss Wilkins didn't look that happy. "Victoria, detention." Victoria growls and stomps off. "You can't make me." Miss Wilkins turns back to me. "Can you do that same routine? That will be an award winner!" I smile. "Of course Miss Wilkins."

I walk back to my dorm, and the moment I walk in I almost have a heart attack. "YOU FINALLY GOT THE SOLO!" Gabby squeals. I smile. "I know! I was thinking of this costume." I show her a blue costume with a platter tutu, and a light blue feather hair clip.

"That is perfect!" Then Gabby sighs, "Too bad we're 1 year apart. When you leave I will be here for another year." I give Gabby a big hug, "I'll visit as much as I can."

I throw my pajamas on and slip into the covers of my bed. Tomorrow was going to be a very busy day.
