"Uh--Come on Keelan, let's get you out of here before North and Raven get into a brawl." Luke panicked slightly as he grabbed my bags from my hand and pulled me down the hall from the kitchen; "Gabriel's set you up a room," Sang said from behind me softly - with a hard edge underlying her tone, "So you'll be able to have your privacy." She continued, finally stopping at the end of the dark hall, and opening the door, revealing a beautiful comfortable room.
"Thank you," I smiled at Luke as he sat my bags down on the bed before leaving Sang and I in the room. I grinned and sat down on a chair beside the bed, looking out the window.
"Sang?" I murmured as my eyes never once strayed from the window - eyeing the woods. I needed to explore that. "What?" She asked before taking a seat beside me, "Am I allowed to go outside and walk?" I needed to be able to explore every inch of the woods behind this house.
"Of course - but I need you to understand something first." Her tone darkened, borderline vicious as I looked at her and raised a brow. Dear Lord in heaven - what's her problem.
"Sure," I grinned, playing it cool while I was steaming inside, wondering what she was going to say.
I had the feeling it wasn't going to be anything good. I held a bated breath as I watched her open her mouth the speak - her tone as cold as ice.
"Stay away from the boys. Don't talk to them, look at them, or even sit close to them." Sang huffed, her huge green eyes glaring daggers into mine. Really? And here I thought she was an innocent weak woman.
"Understand? If not - You'll have hell to deal with while you stay here. Don't underestimate what I'm capable of." She warned, towering over my 4'11 height. Look, I wasn't afraid of this two-faced bitch whatsoever, but I did want my time here (as quick as it will be) to be drama-free and quiet. Plus, I think she would sic the huge scary brute on me.
"Do we understand each other?" She asked again as I leveled my gaze to her, blue to green as I considered smacking this bitch to mars, but I held back; "Fine." I relented, hating myself for not putting her in her place. Kellan, girl the last thing you need is to be thrown out with no money or friends in this place.
"Now go, Owen needs to talk to you about starting school," Sang grinned - as her moods completely switched like a fuckin' light switch.
I honestly wondered if she had a multiple personality disorder when she wasn't playing the goody two shoes in front of the boys. I rolled my eyes and stood up, brushing off my jeans before I walked out of the room, pointedly ignoring Sang's smirk as I went.
I walked back down the hall, and saw Luke, Gabriel, and Victor in the kitchen, talking before they saw me. One by one, all of their smiles were replaced with a cold look as they regarded me. All of them except for Luke. "Kellan! What's up? Do you need anything?" Luke asked, elbowing Gabriel glaring at him as Gabriel glared at me. I shook my head with a thankful smile before I replied, "No thank you. Where is Mr. Blackbourne? Miss. Sang told me he needed to speak with me about starting school."
How I fucking hated calling her 'Miss', but I needed to get on their good books. Even if I had to endure Sang's constant glares whenever I was in the same room as they were.
"Here, I'll show you!" Luke smiled before ushering me inside the living room, down another hall and a set of stairs before we came face-to-face with a dark wooden door. "Go on, knock," Luke urged before patting me on the head as he left, going back where he came.
I raised my fist and knocked three times before I heard Mr. Blackbourne's infuriating voice reply.
"Come in, Miss. Nolan." He called out, boredly. I breathed deeply, reminding myself to keep my short temper in check before I opened the door, and stepped inside. "Come take a seat, Keelan." Sean said, as he fiddled with something in his hands as he sat in the chair next Owen. I sighed but did as I was told and took a seat on the chair opposite them.
"What is it?" I asked, curiously eyeing the small cup in Sean's hands as he traded looks with Mr. Blackbourne. "That," Mr. Blackbourne pointed to the cup, "Is the drug test you agreed on taking." He replied dryly, staring at me intently as he watched to see if I would argue.
"Sure," I shrugged causally causing his face to grow blank as Sean's lips turned up slightly watching Mr. Blackbourn quickly gained his composure. The best way to deal with conceded pricks like Mr. Blackbourne was to beat them at their own game. Since this bastard though I was a druggie - and wouldn't agree to take this test - I needed to prove him wrong, to prove that I had never taken any fucking drugs.
The thought of drugs sent shivers down my spine of I thought of George, my ex back home.
Sean handed me them cup before I turned it over in my hand, "So...do I just take a piss in it, and give it back to you?" I asked watching smugly as Mr. Blackbourne recoiled at my vulgar speech. "Yes, Miss. Nolan. Now, go." Mr. Blackbourne waved his hand, "After your finished with---uh, that. Come back here and we will finish setting up plans for your schooling."
"Yes sir," I replied mockingly as Sean shook his head, trying to ease the amusement from his face, but ultimately failing miserably. "The bathroom is two doors down." Sean told me helpfully as I opened the door, "Thanks lad!" I called as the door closed. I fiddled with the cup as I passed to first door, behind coming to a stop in front of the bathroom, I jiggled the handle, to make sure no one was inside, before opening it, and locking it behind me.
"It's now or never, Kee." I mumbled to myself as I sat on the toilet, did my business before flushing and washing my hands. I placed the lid on the cup, before heading back to where I came.
I opened the door to the study, finding Sean and Mr. Blackbourne where I had left them before I placed the cup in Sean's outstretched hand, flushing slightly before I sat down. "I'll take this to the hospital to have it tested. I'll be back later." Sean spoke, heading for the door, before leaving the room.
"Okay - what now?" I asked Mr. Blackbourne as he crossed his legs and kept his unflinching gaze on me. "You will be starting school tomorrow, so be ready. I already have a backpack of school supplies prepared for you." He started, carelessly waving a hand, "Since I am the principle of Ashley Waters, I will be able to drive you to and from school." He spoke thoughtfully, "And you will spend you lunch hour with me - the last thing we need you to do is make friends with the wrong sort of people."
"Okay." I nodded, agreeing. It wouldn't do me much good to argue in my position, "What about chores?" I asked, taking pleasure from his surprised look. "You will clean your own room and you will be helping North with dinner."
"Wait North?" I asked, my voice squeaking, "Can't I help someone else cook?"
"What's wrong?" He asked with a smirk, as I glared at him.
"He is one scary motherfucker. I'm afraid if I make one wrong move - he'll tear me apart."
"Fine, then you will be helping Victor and Luke cook. Is that better?" He asked, thankfully not noticing the slump in my shoulders.
"Perfect, thanks."
A/N: As you've noticed, I've changed the title of the book to Kellen! I got tired of having to write that long ass title!
So why is Kellan terrified of North?
What do you think of Sang?
