Kazumi's POV

We are lost again still heading for Vermilion City when we come across a lake. Misty sees an oddish and decides to try to catch it. She weakened it using starmi and throws a pokeball at it. When suddenly a Bulbasaur pops out of the bushes and deflects the ball using vine whip. "I can't believe it, a bulbasaur" I cheer as it growls at us and use Dexlee.

"Bulbasaur, it bears a seed of a plant since birth and the seed slowly develops. Researchers are unsure whether to classify Bulbasaur as a plant or animal. Bulbasaur are extremely tough and very difficult to catch in the wild" Dexlee explains as Bulbasaur attacks Starmi.

"Go  Butterfree" I say as Misty tends to her injured Starmi. "Sleep powder" I tell Butterfree and Bulbasaur takes a deep breath blowing the powder back a Butterfree. Putting him to sleep, but I catch him as Bulbasaur escapes with oddish. "Man I really wanted Bulbasaur on my time, I should of taken a different approach" I mumble. "You did good Butterfree, take a good rest" I tell him returning him to his pokeball.

The others agree I could go after Bulbasaur and we start our search. We soon reach a long rope bridge and Electra is on my shoulder as we begin to cross it. Brock was checking the map when there was a large gust of wind. The bridge broke and I grabbed one of the ropes with Misty holding onto my legs. But Brock didn't get a grip and fell into the river below.

"Kazumi you have to pull us back up, it's our only chance" Misty tells me. Electra encourages me as I pull us up. Once she reached the rope be crawled over to the other side of the bridge before taking deep breaths.

"I'm wiped out" I tell Misty.

"But we can't rest, we have to find Brock" she reminds me. We get down the the river bank and go along it looking for Brock. When Misty falls into a trap and I pull her out before we continue our search. We start to call Brock's name when we walk into a net trap. Now we're hanging from a tree in a net.

"Bulbasaur" we hear and we look below us to see the wild Bulbasaur. He leaves us as I try escape the net by wiggling.

"I hope Brock's ok" I say as we sit in the net.

"Ahoy" someone says and we turn to see Brock and he lets us out of the net. He apologized when we landed on the ground not so gently. Misty told him how we had been looking for him since he fell into the river. I asked him what had happen as we stand up Electra on my shoulder.

He starts to explain how he washed ashore and meet a woman named Melanie. How she owns a cottage near by where she grows berries and nurses injured or sick pokemon back to full health. Brock then leads us to Melanie's cottage. "Melanie this is Kazumi and Misty" Brock says introducing us to a blue haired girl.

"Nice to meet you Melanie, thanks for helping Brock" I tell her smiling. "Wow look at that" I say looking at the pokemon eating from red bowls. "Are these some of the pokemon you are healing?" I ask her as I sit down by the lake taking my shoes and socks off rolling up my pants placing my feet in the cool water. A rattata jumps onto my lap and I smile patting it gently as Melanie explains what she does here to Misty.

"Do you know who set up the traps around here Melanie?" Misty asks.

"I'm sorry, set them up to protect the village" Melanie says.

"That's ok, we understand Melanie" I assure her and she smiles at me.

"They seem to love you" she states looking at all the pokemon surrounding me.

"I love them too" I tell her as I place rattata down and stand up. We promised Melanie not to try catch any pokemon around here. After I had put my socks and shoes on again. Misty even goes to apologize to the oddish she had tried to capture when Bulbasaur appears. Knocking her to the ground. "That's not nice Bulbasaur" I tell him sternly.

Melanie explains how Bulbasaur protects the entire village making me smile. I feel something pushing my leg and look down to see Bulbasaur. "It's ok Bulbasaur we'll leave soon, we're sorry for hurting oddish" I say knelling down and patting his head gently. "You're doing an amazing job protecting the village, keep it up" I tell him smiling and he looks at me shocked.

Just then team rocket appears with a giant stadium as I stand up with Electra ready to battle and protect the pokemon. A giant hose appears trying to suck up all the pokemon and I save a staryu. Bulbasaur saves oddish while I give staryu to Misty. I then go behind Bulbasaur and help push inside and Brock closes the door behind us.

Bulbasaur and I go outside to fight team rocket as I release Pidgeotto telling him to use gust. A tornado is formed and it carries team rocket away as I thank Pidgeotto. Melanie thanked us for the help and I told her the village will be well protected with Bulbasaur here. "But don't you think he'd be a good addition to your team?" she asks me.

"Of course he would, but I don't want to make him do something he doesn't want to do" I tell her.

"I think Bulbasaur should go with you" Melanie states picking Bulbasaur up. "He needs to go out into the world now and I know you'll take good care of him" she adds.

"What do you say Bulbasaur? What to join me on my journey?" I ask him.

'I will come on one condition, you have to beat me in a battle' he tells me. Making me smile as I agree to the battle and we go to an open area to battle. I decide to use Electra this time instead of Butterfree. I have her tackle him first until Bulbasaur wraps her up in vine whip attack.

"Thunder shock" I tell Electra and the electricity goes through the vines electrocuting Bulbasaur. I throw a pokeball and catch Bulbasaur smiling. Then let him out telling him to use photosynthesis and he heals himself. We all say goodbye to Melanie and oddish decides to go with Misty. Melanie gave us directions toVermilion City and we continue on our way. After I had returned Bulbasaur to his pokeball and Electra jumped onto my shoulder.
