The public bathroom was quieter than usual, the soft hum of the overhead lights filling the space between the occasional sound of running water and footsteps in the hallway. Daniela and Megan had ducked into the restroom to escape the crowded party happening outside. The night was still young, but the noise and commotion in the venue had started to feel a little too much, and they both craved a moment of peace.
Megan leaned against the sink, tapping her foot lightly, her thoughts wandering. "I swear, this party is so... chaotic," she muttered, trying to shake off the anxiety that had built up since they'd entered. "I'm glad we took a break."
Daniela smiled at her, her arms crossed casually as she leaned against the doorframe. "Yeah, it's a bit much sometimes. But I'm glad we're here—just the two of us."
Megan glanced up at her, a little caught off guard by the way Daniela said it, the words feeling heavier than usual. There was a certain warmth in Daniela's gaze that made Megan's chest tighten unexpectedly. She shifted her weight, trying to distract herself from the sudden fluttering in her stomach.
"You always know how to make things feel... easier," Megan said softly, her voice unsteady. Her mind raced with thoughts, ones she hadn't let herself acknowledge before now. Daniela had always been there for her—supportive, kind, funny—but lately, it felt like there was more. It was a feeling Megan hadn't known how to explain, much less act on.
Daniela's smile softened, and she pushed herself off the doorframe, taking a step closer. The space between them seemed smaller now, the air charged with something unspoken. "You make it easy to want to be around, Megan," she said quietly, her voice barely above a whisper, as though testing the waters. "I like being with you."
Megan swallowed, her heartbeat picking up as she realized what Daniela was implying. Her thoughts were a blur, but she couldn't deny the pull she felt toward her. The way Daniela stood in front of her, her eyes meeting Megan's with a mix of affection and something else... desire, maybe? Megan couldn't be sure, but the way her pulse quickened at the thought made her want to lean in, just to see if she was imagining it.
Before she could think too much, Daniela closed the distance, her hand lightly grazing Megan's arm. The touch was enough to send a shiver through her, and Megan looked up, her breath hitching. The air seemed to thicken, the world outside the bathroom no longer mattering as she found herself drawn in by Daniela's presence.
"Megan..." Daniela's voice was low, the sound of her name on her lips sending a jolt through Megan's entire body. "Can I kiss you?"
Megan's breath caught, and she hesitated for only a moment—though it felt like a lifetime. She hadn't expected it, but now that it was happening, there was nothing she wanted more. Her heart hammered in her chest as she nodded, barely able to get the words out.
"Yes... Please."
And with that, Daniela closed the gap, her lips meeting Megan's in a soft, tentative kiss. It was gentle at first, a light brush of lips that sent a spark racing through Megan's veins. She felt Daniela's hands move to her waist, pulling her just a bit closer, and Megan's breath hitched as she responded, her hands instinctively going to Daniela's shoulders. The kiss deepened as they both leaned in, the chemistry between them undeniable now.
The rest of the world faded away. There was only the warmth of Daniela's lips against hers, the softness of her touch, and the rapid rhythm of Megan's heart. The kiss was tender, but it quickly became more urgent, as though they'd both been holding back for far too long.
They pulled back for a moment, breathless, foreheads resting together. Megan's eyes fluttered open to meet Daniela's, her chest rising and falling with each shaky breath.
"Are you sure?" Daniela whispered, her voice still soft but full of that same warmth. She was waiting for Megan's answer, her eyes searching hers for any sign of doubt.
Megan nodded without hesitation, her hand reaching up to cup Daniela's cheek. "Yes. I'm sure."
And then they kissed again, this time with more confidence, more certainty. The kiss felt like a promise, an unspoken understanding that whatever this was—whatever it had always been—it was real.
As they finally pulled away, still close, the noise of the party seemed distant, irrelevant. In that moment, it was just the two of them, standing in the quiet of the bathroom, their hearts racing in sync.
"Maybe we should go back," Megan said, her voice slightly breathless, her lips still tingling from the kiss.
Daniela smiled, brushing a strand of hair behind Megan's ear. "Yeah, but I'm not sure I want to leave yet."
Megan laughed softly, her hand finding Daniela's once more. "Then let's stay here a little longer," she suggested, feeling a surge of contentment she hadn't expected.
And for a few more minutes, they stayed there—together—wrapped in the warmth of the moment, savoring the quiet before the world outside came rushing back in.
