Chapter 13
February 22, 1962
You just turn two months pregnant today. You are starting to show it it soon.
Smile baby girl, You said as you take a picture of Three-Month-old Kathleen.
She shows her little grin of her's at the camera.
My baby girl. Is getting so big and it's making mommy sad, stop growing so fast, You said.
Come on let's go, surprise daddy, You said.
You put Kathleen. In her car seat and buckle her up.
( Jack's office )
I will take that, Bobby said as he grabs Kathleen's car seat from you.
Hey, You said.
You are pregnant. You don't need to be carrying this, Bobby said.
Robert. You act like I'm 8 months pregnant but I'm only two months along, You said.
Bobby just looks at you.
Before he starts to run with Kathleen's car seat.
Robert Francis Kennedy!
You run after him.
Give me back my daughter now Robert, You yelled.
Bobby stop. He took Kathleen out of her car seat and started to run again.
You stop. An empty car seat.
Jack was in his office. He was reading over Cuba's plans when he heard yelling from the hallway.
Jack got up from his chair. He looks out the door.
You run by him.
I'm going to kill your brother. When I get my hands on him, You said.
Why are you running, Jack asked?
Bobby took our daughter and he won't give me her back, You said.
Bobby. Can you come here, I need to ask you something, Jack said.
What is it, Jack, Bobby asked?
I will take that, Jack said as he takes his daughter out of his brother's arms.
Hello Princess. Daddy misses you, Jack said.
She giggles.
Next month. Are you and Jack finding out what you are having, Bobby said.
Yeah, we are, You said.
What do you want to be, Bobby asked?
I want another girl, You said.
Jack?
I want a son this time, Jack said.
Last time y/n wanted a boy and Jack wanted a girl. But this time y/n wants another girl and Jack wants a boy, I feel like Jack is going be right again about the baby sex like he was last time, Bobby said.
Ok. Let make a bet.
What kind of bet, Jack asked?
If I win the bet. I get to name our daughter, You said with a grin.
If I win the bet. I get to name our son, Jack said with a huge smirk.
What do you think it's going to be Bobby, You asked?
A Boy, Bobby said.
Not you too Bobby, You said.
I think you understand in this state what this election is about. This is a chance for the United States to continue to move forward on the road which Wilson and Roosevelt and Truman and Stevenson urged this country to take. All they can say is what McKinley and Taft and Coolidge and Landon and Harding and the others wanted to say. This is the choice for the United States in 1960. I think this country is a great country, but I think we can do a better job, I think we can move ahead, in this state and across the United States and around the world.
I was nominated in the City of Los Angeles and you cannot possibly stop now. I ask your help in this campaign. I think the real question is what we can make this country be. Has it realized its full potential? Has our day in the sun passed? Have we set into a decline instead of growth in the United States? Mr. Khrushchev is going to bury us. But that is not what is as alarming as the fact that all over the world as in Latin America and Asia, and Africa, people who used to look to Franklin Roosevelt for leadership now turn to Moscow and Peking and wonder if the future belongs to them. I think the future belongs to us. Not to the United States in that sense, but to those who believe in the cause of freedom, and we are the great hope for freedom. If we fail in this country, the cause of freedom fails. If we succeed, if we make this a better country, if we make this a better place for everyone to live in, if we build more homes and more schools, if we protect our people better, if we end discrimination in the United States, if we move our economic growth forward, then we strengthen the United States, and we strengthen the cause of freedom. That is our chance and that is our opportunity, and I ask your help, Jack said.
You clapped as he finishes his speech.
Everyone loves it, You said.
I'm glad that you like it. How are you and my son doing, Jack said with a grin.
Our daughter and I are doing good, You said.
Don't you mean a Boy, Jack said.
No, It's going to be a girl, You said.
Boy!
Girl!
Boy!
Girl!
Boy!
Both of you shut the hell up. You two are giving a huge headache, Bobby said.
( Later that night )
Kathleen was finally sleep.
You let out a yawn.
You climb into bed and lay down by Jack.
You close your eyes and fall asleep for the night.
Jack put his hand on your stomach before he falls asleep himself .
