Tomorrow is my tenth birthday! The day I finally get to become a Pokemon trainer! Ive stayed up all night going over the three different types of Pokemon I can choose from.

There's Squirtle, a water type Pokemon. Its basic knowledge that water types are very affective against rock types, meaning I could catch a one very easily. Also the first gym on my journey will be a rock type.

Next there is Charmander, the fire type. I know that fire types are said to be really strong and would help me to get grass types but I know that one of the two other trainers has their heart set on Charmander. Charmander was the only Pokemon he ever talked about in school and anywhere where the subject of Pokemon came up.

Lastly there's Bulbasaur, the grass type. Bulbasaur would help me to catch water types that I could use at the first gym, but fire types would be a problem.

My entire family thinks Bulbasaur is useless. My mother chose a Charmander, my father a Charmander, and my older brother, luken, chose Charmander as well, but me, I love Bulbasaur. As soon as as I learned about Bulbasaur I knew I wanted one. In my room I secretly have a plush Bulbasaur that I bought at our towns toy store. I spent all my allowance on it but I didn't care, because I loved Bulbasaur!

The thing is, I had always been so sure that I would pick Bulbasaur, that I never gave it much thought, but now that the day is here Im worried about if I made the right choice. Endless questions float through my head. What would my parents think? Would they reject me? What if Bulbasaur is taken by the time I get there?

I sit under the covers of my loft reviewing the Pokemon for the sixth time. Suddenly there is a knock at the door. I slowly stand and walk over to it. I open the door and peer down the long hallway my room is at the end of, but there is no one in sight.

I lower my eyes to the floor where a large present sits wrapped in fiery red wrapping paper with a large yellow bow tied securely around it. I pick it up and carry it into my room, shutting my door before laying it carefully back on the ground. Until then I had been working by the moonlight shining through my window and the skinny beam of my flashlight, but as I set the present down I flicked on the light revealing a crisp white envelope under the large frilly bow at the top.

I slide it out with shaky fingers as excitement courses through me. On the front in curly blue inked letters was the word Kate. I went under my loft to where my desk was to retrieve my letter opener. I slid it under the white paper, slicing down the rest of the envelope.

Inside it was a card with a big strong looking Charizard shooting off a flamethrower for the cover. I opened it up to find a neat little roll of cash with some extra change taped to the inside. In the same curly blue letters are the words Love, Mom, Dad, and Luken. Setting the letter on the floor I proceeded to slide the yellow ribbon off the box, taring at the red paper until I was left with a brown box. I watched the flaps as if they would pop open by themselves.

Finally I couldn't take it anymore, I opened the box and pulled out its contents. There was a small blue hairbrush and purple hat next to a purse that I could easily slip into my bag. There was also a black water bottle on top of a blue sweatshirt. In the remaining space was a box identical to the first, but smaller. I ripped off the paper and the bow faster this time, opening the second box without hesitation. Held in place by a special tray sat a great ball . My hands flew up to my mouth, causing the box to fall to the floor. On it was a note that said, Don't open until you win your first badge XOXO Mom.

I couldn't help the squeal of excitement that escaped. There could be anything in that pokeball! Then I noticed another note sticking out from the bottom of the box. I pulled it off and was met with large letters saying, GO TO BED!

~•In the Morning at 3 am•~

I had finished adding my new things to my purple bag last night, and now I sat on my bean bag chair checking off my mental list to make sure I had everything. At the same time I was going over the Pokemon again and again. I had only managed to get 3 hours of sleep before my excitement took over. After another hour of thinking I finally made my decision. I quickly changed my clothes and ran a brush through my thick black curls. I grabbed my bag and headed for the door but before I opened it I turned around to look at my room, knowing it would be the last time I would see it for a long time. Outside of the only window, diagonal to the door, I could see the morning sun. On the left side was my oak dresser with my picture frames and other things. In the corner next to the dresser was my wicker hamper.

On the right side of the window was my loft. I looked up at the messy sheets filled with plush toys and pillows, that reminded me of a certain something in my bag. Underneath it sat my desk. The large office desk chair I had gotten for my birthday was placed precisely in the center just waiting for someone to spin in it. On the wall next to the door was my closet. The walls were littered with posters of Pokemon and their trainers. "Goodbye room." I whispered as I stepped out shutting the door behind me.

After I brushed my teeth, I ran down the stairs to the kitchen where I knew my parents would be waiting. Just as I expected they were sitting at the island in the kitchen, sipping coffee, preparing for work. Someone else was sitting at the island as well. "Luken!" I screamed running into his open arms. Recently Luken had been on his own pokemon journey in the orange islands.

"Happy Birthday Sweetie!", my mother said to me as she passed me a plate of French toast. "Better eat it fast so you can get to Professor Flin's laboratory.", my father added. I began to shovel the toast into my mouth, savoring the sweet syrupy flavor.

" So Luken what brings you back to our quaint little town?" I ask my older brother through a mouth full of toast.

"Are you kidding me! I wouldn't miss my little sisters 10th birthday for the world!", he says as he tussles my hair.

As soon as I was finished my mother handed me a bag with the word Lunch written across it in permanent marker. We all set off to Professor Flin's Laboratory. When we got there, there was a small group of people gathered at the steps. Past their shoulders I could see the third Pokemon trainer with her brand new Squirtle. Her parents came up to her and kissed her goodbye. We all watched as she walked of with Squirtle on her shoulders.

Then everyone turned to me.

I knew it was my turn to choose a Pokemon so I quickly ran up the stairs to avoid the anxious stares. As soon as I was inside I was greeted by Professor Flin. His neatly groomed black hair stood out against the gleaming white walls. He wore a black t shirt under his white lab coat. On his black jeans I could see a water stain, most likely caused by the Squirtle.

"Good morning Kate!", he said to me in his usual cheerful voice. I know Professor Flin very well. He and my dad have been friends since preschool. "Morning!" I say back.

"Right this way." he says as he starts walking off down the hall. I run to catch up with him. After we pass a few doors he stops and opens a door on our right. I follow him into the room. Up until now everything has been white, but this room is a dark blue color with a lime green carpet. It looked like a nursery.

In one corner there were three miniature beds. In another there were some toys. I didn't have enough time to complete my search of the room before professor Flin said " Lets look at your choices than shall we.". He had moved behind a table, on it were three stands, the middle one empty. The professor picked up the two red and white pokeballs, clicking the buttons. I watched in amazement as two beams of light shot out of the open pokeballs, forming into creatures before my very eyes.

On my left is an energetic looking Charmander and on my right is a sweet looking Bulbasaur. "Time to choose Kate" the professor says "Which Pokemon will be joining you on your journey?"

Both of the little Pokemon ran up to me with pleading eyes. The pressure was on, all my planning was lost in my panic. I crouched down next to the little pokemon scratching the charmander under her chin. That's right her.

"Your trainer will be here soon.", I whisper to her as I lean over and pick up my brand new bBulbasaur. Bulba! The little Charmander looks hurt."Did I mention he's crazy about Charmanders?"

At this she jumps up and does what I can only guess as a happy dance. I look up at the professor, and with my head held high, proudly say, "I choose Bulbasaur.".
