Passage
Jack began to panic as his carriage became closer and closer to Kasper's castle. MiM had forgotten all about the list Jack was supposed to have signed for. A guard would ask for his name... and then what? Say someone else's name? That would be cruel.
Jack sighed as his carriage reached the gate of the palace. He looked out of the small window, gazing at the grand black and red castle that stood before him. It wasn't messy, dark, or scary. It was elegant with it's tall red towers. It was a royal red that made Jack smile. He had arrived. The carriage stopped in front of the stairs that led to castle's front double doors. One of the coachman opened the door and bowed. Jack began to feel his heart rise. He looked at the castle, nodding to himself, trying to make himself move.
"Sir?"
Jack snapped his head up. "What?"
The coachman looked up the stairs then at Jack. "The ball is waiting."
Jack looked up at the doors with worried eyes. He nodded to himself again and nervously made his was to the door.
A short black-haired man looked up at Jack, holding the piece of parchment Jack was supposed to have signed. The short man smiled, lifting his nose joyfully. "May I have your name?"
Jack paused, but he noticed that there was silver-glowing ink writing Jack's name. "Uh, Jackson Overland Frost."
The man looked down at the bottom of the list seeing Jack's name in the glowing silver. He laughed lightly. "Oh, it glows. Get him a mask." He smiled at Jack as one of the guards handed Jack a blue mask that outlined his eyes.
"Thank you," Jack laughed lightly and tied the mask.
"Follow me." The man bowed and began to lead Jack in.
Jack smirked and took a quick glance back at the moon. He mouthed, "Thank you," and he quickly walked in. Jack smiled proudly as he noticed the orange and almost-gold-like floors of the long halls. Mom was right, he thought. He liked how the yellow pillars almost seemed to make a pattern throughout the halls. And the doors were the perfect shade of orange to match. There was loud and distant clapping to the beat of the music. Jack grinned. He liked those kinds of dances.
The man opened a door and stood at the top of a staircase of the ballroom. He cleared his throat as he faced Jack. "May I have everyone's attention?"
Jack paused with his eyes widening. Everyone turned to face him. Jack noticed the large amount of people wearing masks as they faced him. Jack froze.
"May I present another suitor!"
Everyone on the dance floor clapped. Jack felt relieved, but he felt torn. He had spotted his mother and brothers clapping for his entry. Jack barely managed a smile and a bow. He made his way down the stairs as the clapping stopped and the music continued.
Jack looked around for the princess, but he couldn't tell how to look for her. He had never seen her before. He stood by a table with desserts, and his eyes looked through many faces. But he still couldn't tell.
She was blond. She was beautiful. She didn't wear a crown. That left about fifteen girls in the room. Jack sighed. This might be a long night.
