Hallow

Kasper screamed into her pillow as her blond hairs stood up and fell. She sighed on her red bed as she began to sit up and let go of her pillow. Unlike many princesses, she was not spoiled. Kasper was simply forced to look happy and seem to have everything she wanted. But deep down... she felt empty and unhappy as ever. She sighed as her blue eyes looked up at her ceiling, letting her legs, clad with checkered red and black, tight trousers, stretch on the bed .

Cupid let out a small laugh, looking herself in the mirror as she spotted a brown hair of hers out of place. "I just got here. I didn't expect you to want me to leave so fast. Usually you call me for ten minutes instead of one." She placed a book on the small black skirt of her second layer, open black skirt.

Kasper let out a small laugh as she relaxed her shoulders. She looked around her gorgeous, large room, with red and black curtains and pillows and couches. She almost felt like she couldn't complain, but this was marriage. This was an almost entirely different life if she made the wrong decision. And she didn't want it. She was only seventeen, and she wanted to be happy. She stared at her bookshelf as she spoke to Cupid. "It's not you. It's my dad. He arranged a ball for suitors two days ago and only told me about it today. I don't want to get married until I'm older, but apparently the kingdom needs to know I have someone to one day make an heir now." She looked at Cupid with her blue eyes as she criss-crossed her legs on her bed to sit.

Cupid raised a brow as she turned to her friend. "Can't you just walk out and tell him no? Isn't the ball supposed to be your decision too?"

Kasper frowned as she looked down at her black and red trousers. "No... He sent out the invitations two days ago. So everyone, even some of the neighboring kingdoms, are coming."

Cupid froze with her widened red eyes. "That's like three princes and thousands of people. We can't fit them all here. Do we even have food for that?"

Kasper rolled her eyes as she fell back onto her bed. "Yeah, I know. Now, I can't back out, AND I have to wear a dress. Do you know how much I love these skinny trousers?"

Cupid smiled weakly. "Well... you'll meet cute guys."

Kasper paused, her blue eyes almost shifting. She shrugged, tilting her head to one side slightly. "That's true. I heard Bunny of Pooka is really charming. But it's the whole... dancing part... and suitor part. I don't want to get married right now."

Cupid let out a small laugh. "I told you back when you were five that you were going to have to dance. You're a princess. You're supposed to do that stuff."

Kasper sighed. "Well, according to dad, I don't act much like a princess. 'Sit up straight,' 'don't crack your knuckles,' 'stop popping your back,' 'quit flying'..." She sighed again. "Do you even think someone will like me? I mean, I act so unlady-like."

"Of course they will!" Cupid smiled. "What's there not to like about you? You make people laugh. You're not the stereotypical princess. You sword fight. You even draw." She grinned. "What's the problem again?"

Kasper laughed lightly but sincerely. "Alright. I don't know though. I just don't feel like I'm supposed to be a princess at all."

Cupid shook her head. "That's what every princess says."

"Not all princesses. What about Elsa?" Kasper nodded with wide eyes. "She walks with that pride."

Cupid shrugged. "Point proven."

Kasper looked out her window. She couldn't help but feel empty somehow as she watched a few birds play in the water fountain. "But... I guess it's just that... I don't feel like anyone would like me."

Cupid raised a brow. "Why do you say that?"

"I've talked other princesses, and they all have a prince in mind. When it comes to me... I just want someone that will give me a cinderella scene." Kasper began to smile as a cat scared the birds. "Someone who will bring me flowers, or hug me randomly, or start skating on the floors with me with just our socks, or just randomly decide they want to fly with me." Her shoulders fell. "Someone who will like me for me and not my title."

Cupid smiled as she began to hug her friend. "It's alright, Kasper. You'll find someone."

"Really?" Kasper pulled back to look at her friend's sincerity. "Because I really don't want to be the only princess who doesn't. People say that because I'm a princess I won't. But you know, more than anyone, that I'm just like anyone else."

"You will find someone." Cupid rested a hand on Kasper's shoulder.

"You think so?"

"Mhm. I've planned it out." Cupid nodded. "But you won't find him in here. He's out there somewhere. He might even go to the ball." She grinned. "Come on, I still have a score to settle with you in baton. And we have to teach you to dance. There is no way I'm letting anyone be better than you at dancing." She helped Kasper off her bed. "There's also no way I'm letting you step on someone's toes."

Kasper smiled. "Thanks. Cupid..."

"Yes?" Cupid turned to Kasper.

"You really think I'll find someone," Kasper asked quietly.

Cupid smiled. "I already know you will. There is someone for everyone who is seeking harmony for the rest of their lives with someone else. I just don't let them find each other when it's the right time. Never before and never after."

Kasper sighed, shaking her head. "It's just been so long, and I kinda need to know now. So... who is--"

"In time." Cupid smiled. "You know who he is in time. If you question it and look for me when the big question arrives, you'll know he's not. If you do not look for me for the answer when the question comes up, then you will know."

"Why can't you just tell me?"

"Because that would ruin the magic that you and he will create. Now, come on. I'm hungry now."
