Battle Within

Jack heard a loud, muffled vibration of sound, waking him up. He quickly sat up, startled as he woke up and looked around. But he couldn't see anything. He couldn't even see his nose or his hands. He heard the vibration again as he stood up and began walking around. He heard the same thing again.

"Hello?" Jack looked around. He paused as he felt his foot touch some sort of wooden thing. He touched it again with his foot and noted it was a staff of some sort. He picked it up and felt the strange, smooth groves of it. It glowed a light blue, revealing it was a staff. He smiled and began looking around.

There were no sounds. The only noise he could hear was his own breath and foot steps. There was another loud muffled sound like before, however, in a different pitch. It was as if it was a complete new vibration entirely. But little by little, the muffled noise became a muffled voice. The voice began to echo, but it was still muffled.

"Hello?" Jack began running blindly toward the noise. The voice continued to call him. He called out vigorously as he tried finding the voice. "Hello?... HELLO!"

The muffles boomed and faintly began to form his name. The voice began to clarify into a pure sound. "Jack!?"

"Kasper?"

"Jack!"

Jack smiled. "Kasper," he said as he ran towards her voice. "Kasper, where are you?"

"Jack," Kasper said. "I'm over here!" She looked around. She had just seen him seconds earlier when the darkness cleared for a moment.

"I just saw you!" Jack looked around. He slammed his staff on the undefined ground, and ice rapidly crawled among the floor around him. As the ice glowed blue, Jack looked around. "Kasper?"

"Jack." Kasper hugged Jack from behind.

Jack turned and hugged her. He pulled back with wide eyes. "Where are we? What's going on?"

"It's a bit difficult to explain. But we're inside your mind."

"Then this is all made up?"

"No." Kasper shook her head. "This your mind within your soul. Some darkness is trying to take possession of you. From what I saw, it only has control of the outside. Your body. We have to find the darkness, and we have to defeat it before it takes over your soul."

Jack's brows furrowed as he shook his head. "I-I don't have any darkness in me." He turned away from Kasper. "I mean I kind of hated my stepmom, but that's not darkness. She mistreated me, and of course I wasn't going to like it." He turned to Kasper suddenly. "I'm fine right?"

Kasper's breath stilled as she saw Jack's eyes becoming a different color. "Jack... You don't ACTUALLY hate her."

"I kinda do. I mean..." Jack sighed and his eyes were becoming their original blue colors. "I wasn't going to do anything wrong. I didn't do anything wrong. I just... I just want her to see me live happily for the rest of my life and see her be upset that I'm something more than she could ever be. I don't want her to die or anything."  The yellow in his eyes began to fade.

Kasper smiled. "That's what you want? That's what YOU REALLY want?"

Jack nodded, but he suddenly began to scream and hold his head, dropping his staff.

"Jack?"

Jack fell to the floor, screaming in pain.

Kasper's eyes widened as she saw black aura seep out of Jack's body like black ink. Jack began to scream loud yet weak. Kasper knelt at his side. "Jack! You have to fight it!"

It became more and more difficult for Jack to keep his eyes open. The aura grew stronger and began detaching itself from Jack. It eerily yet playfully moved in a zigzag motion away from the couple, and it began to take Jack's form. The inky Jack became defined and then began to gain color. A yellow eyed, black dressed Jack stood before Kasper, and he grinned.

Kasper quickly turned to Jack and shook him vigorously. "Wake up! You have to fight it!"

The dark Jack smiled as he took Jack's staff. "Oh. He's not waking up."

Kasper turned to Dark Jack. "Then this isn't you."

Dark Jack laughed as he began to pace around Kasper. He picked up the staff. "This is me. See, I'm not that piece of dead meat over there. I'm my own being. I'm the embodiment of his hatred, just as Pitch is the embodiment  of the kingdom's fear." He grinned. "And this soul is now mine. Jack Frost will soon cease to exist."

Kasper turned to Jack and noticed the ice he formed before was melting. Jack's body was also fading away. She glared at Dark Jack. "Then I have to get rid of you."

"As if you could ever--" Dark Jack's eyes widened as he barely managed to dodge Kasper sword. He hovered back in absolute fear and surprise, watching the princess rise to her feet. He watched as the princess brought her white, ghostly beautiful sword to a shielding stance.

Kasper wasted no time. She held her sword in a fencing stance and widened her feet a bit. In a split second, she was in front of Dark Jack's body striking in an upwards motion. Dark Jack stepped aside to avoid Kasper, striking downwards with ice spikes in case he missed. He smiled, but frowned when he noted Kasper was in her ghost form. She had blocked his attack and escaped a painful impalement. She grabbed his staff, then twirled and tried to elbow Dark Jack in the rib. He hoisted his body to the side and throw a punch.

Kasper barely managed to move back, but she had full control of the next blow. She cut Dark Jack's calf, and she grabbed him by his hair, forcing him to the ground. She kicked him in the back to see to it that he would hit the ground hard. And he did.

Dark Jack's body made a loud slam, but it disappeared into the visually undefined floor of darkness. Kasper's eyes widened and she looked around. She steadied her sword and began closely listening. She gasped as she heard Dark Jack's whisper by her ear. "Hey." Kasper turned but he was gone.

"You know what's more fun than just finishing a fight with someone?" Dark Jack laughed and disappeared into the darkness before Kasper's attack could touch him. "Taunting and teasing. It's always way more fun, watching someone in constant fear for a moment." He appeared in front of Kasper. "Don't you think?"

Kasper attacked, but Dark Jack disappeared into the darkness again. His laugh echoed, and Kasper looked around, glaring and ready for an attack.

"Ah, Kasper. All you wanted was happily ever after. And you almost had it. Too bad Jack was a psychopath who wanted everything his way for his life." His back was touching Kasper's back. "I mean, it was his way or death." He smirked. "He did kill a handful of people in your own kingdom."

Kasper tried not to move when she realized Dark Jack was right behind her. "I'm sure everyone will understand."

"Ha! Just like I'll understand and have no hard feelings about you cutting my leg." He shook his head. "That's not how hatred, triggered by fear, works."

Kasper quickly whirled around, trying to cut Jack in half with her sword.

Jack smiled, standing on her sword. He pointed his staff at Kasper, but she tried to strike. This made him flip backwards and land on his feet awkwardly. He was not ready w

[hen Kasper ran towards him with her sword first. She cut his shoulder deeply as he tried to escape it. And she was well prepared. She roundhouse kicked Dark Jack's core, making him land on his back. As he grunted in pain, instantly noticed his head was about to be pierced and rolled away.

Kasper didn't rest as she kicked Dark Jack in his core before he could get up. She elbowed him down to the ground, raised her sword, and pierced her sword through his lung to his heart. She heard Dark Jack cry out in pain. "You don't have to right to tell me how hatred that I don't have works." And she pressed a bit more, seeing that the darkness around her was fading.

Dark Jack's voice became ugly and deformed as he cried out in pain. Kasper began to panic, wondering if killing Dark Jack this way was wrong. He was screaming so loudly, and the light was become too bright. It was blinding and hurting Kasper, but it was also filling her with warmth. It was as if the light was a pure white flame.
