Jarasandha imprisoned Kauravas

The news of Pandavas death shook the entire Hastinapur. Queen Gandhari, Bheesm, Dronachary, Kripacharya were very sad. They could not believe that Pandavas and Kunti died. Gandhari started crying. The Kuru elders suspected some foul play. Bheesm asked Shakuni, 'Gandharraj, the palace was prepared under your supervision. How did this happen? Where is the architect? I want to interrogate him.' Shakuni already paid a handsome amount of money to Purochan, he left the Kuru empire and went to some unknown place. So Shakuni informed Bheesm that they could not be able to locate him. Everyone was suspicious about Purochan's sudden disappearance but they need proof against Shakuni. Shakuni was Dhritarashta's most trusted companion and he was not ready to hear anything against his brother-in-law.
Vidur also acted to be very heartbroken in front of others. He thought, 'Should I tell Tatshree Bheesm about the Pandavas? No, if that Shakuni and king Dhritarashtra know about this, it will be dangerous for Panduputras and Devi Kunti. But I am still confused about Karna. I should keep an eye on him and try to find out what his actual motive is? Who is that man? Why is he helping us?' Thinking all these Vidur decided to send a spy behind Karna.
On the other side, Karna came to the palace to meet Duryodhana.

Duryodhana, 'Hello Mitra, so now you have time to come? '

Karna (smiled), 'Sorry my friend, I was busy with some work. And you were also busy attending the royal guests, so I don't want to disturb you.'

Duryodhana almost pouted, 'I know, after all, you were also attending a royal guest.'

Karna smiled, 'Vasudev is a royalty for you, but for me, he is my best friend. But today I came here to gave you my condolences. I heard about your brothers. I am so sorry about your loss.'

Duryodhana, 'Please, for the hundredth time, they are not my brothers. And I don't care what happened to them.'

Karna, 'Mitra, how could you be so heartless. They died and you are feeling happy?'

Duryodhana, 'Who said I am happy? I am disappointed. You know.... I wanted to kill them myself on the battlefield. But they died.'

Karna cried, 'Mitra, I never expected this from you. You...who made a Sutputra his close friend, who protested to save an unknown person's honor....are so indifferent to his brothers' death. Tell me one thing Mitra, what did Pandavas do to you? Why do you always blame them? It is not their fault that your Pitamaha or Kakashri did not love you? And if you behaved like this, no one is going to love you?

Duryodhana, 'I don't want to hear any lecture from you? Are you a friend of mine or those Pandavas?'

Karna, 'I am your friend that is why I am giving you those lectures, a true friend does the role of a father, mother, brother, and guru. So I am trying to show you your mistakes. How can you be a good king, if you cannot be a good human being?'

Then Shakuni entered the room. Shakuni, 'How dare you? Stay in your limit....you a petty servant is raising your voice in front of the prince.'

Karna, 'Gandharraj, a petty servant like me don't need to do this if a well-wisher like you give the prince a lesson of good morals. Do you think the Kuru elders are fools? If prince Duryodhana acts like this in front of others, then everyone will believe that he is behind all this conspiracy.'

Duryodhana, 'Never.....I am a warrior, not a killer.'

Karna, 'I know that.... and I believe in you. But others will not. If the subjects of Hastinapur came to know about your behavior, then they will definitely think of you as the killer of their crown prince. The enemy kingdom will definitely take this opportunity to instigate the subjects against you.'

Aswatthama, 'Prince Duryodhana is a mighty warrior. He is not scared of any rebellion. He can kill all the subjects who dared to say anything against him.'

Karna, 'Whom will you rule over then? On the corpses?'

Duryodhana (shouting), 'I don't want to hear any lecture from you. If you want to be my friend, then you have to do or say what I like.'

Karna, 'Prince, then you need a sycophant, not a friend. You can have plenty of flatterers around you but Radheya is not one of them. Goodbye.' Then Karna left the place.

Shakuni whispered to Duryodhana, 'Bacche, we need him. Don't let him go.'

Aswatthama, 'Come on mamashri Shakuni. Prince Duryodhana does not need that Sutputra. I am more than capable enough to help him during his reign. But we should punish him for insulting our Prince.'

Shakuni, 'Aswatthama, let me handle the diplomacy. You better concentrate on archery.'

Duryodhana (shouting), 'I don't need anyone. Just leave me alone.'

Shakuni went out of the room thinking, 'That's what I want. Because of your behavior, everybody will suspect you. The more you behave rudely, the more you will be estranged from Bheesm and Vidur. Now no one will believe in you except me. If anyone tries to frame me for Pandavas death I will make you the scapegoat.'

Little did he know that Vidur saw the entire thing as he came to call Duryodhana.

Later in the afternoon, Duryodhana was sitting in his room. He was angry with his friend Karna but also feeling sad as he insulted his friend.

Duryodhana, 'Why Karna, why do you always need to take the side of that Pandavas? They insulted you, it was me who took your side and you always try to show that I am the bad person here.'

Then Vidur came to his room. Vidur, 'Prince Duryodhana, I came here to inform you about the meeting tomorrow morning about Oanadavas and Devi Kunti's funeral. We are planning to go to Varanvat tomorrow and Maharaj wants you to join us.'

Duryodhana (irritated), 'Okay Mahamantri, I will.'

Vidua said, 'Prince I want to talk to you about something in private.'

Duryodhana asked the servants to leave them alone. Then he asked, 'What do you want to tell me mahamantriji?'

Vidur, 'Today it is not the mahamantri who wants to talk to you, but it is your kakashri who wants to tell you something important. My son, I know I did a great mistake when I made some foolish prediction during your birth. But today you also did a grave mistake by insulting the only well-wisher in your life. Putra, a friend will always agree with your every decision but a true friend will show you your mistakes. I know what happened between you and your friend Karna today. He really loves you. Very few people have the guts to speak the truth in front of a king or prince and a good kind always needs persons like Karna. Like him, I also know that you have nothing to do with the Varanavat incident, but son please don't let others use you. Bring him back. Only he can protect you.'

Duryodhana (irritated), 'Are you done, then just leave?'

Vidur left his room thinking, 'My son you have no idea about the vultures who surround you. One day you will understand his importance Duryodhana. I hope Karna will forgive you on that day.'

A few days later,

Everyone in the palace was scared of Duryodhana as he was always in a foul mood for the last few days. Everybody understood the reason behind his irritation but no one dared to say anything to him. On the other hand, Krishna sent a letter to Hastinapura saying that Jarasandha had imprisoned some more kings to finish his dark rituals. He also insulted Krishna and killed the messenger which was considered a great sin. So Now Dwark was going to wage a war against Jarasandha and they need Hastinapur's help. As an alliance kingdom, Hastinaur agreed to their proposal and prepared for the upcoming battle. Hearing that Shakuni informed Duryodhana

Shakuni, 'Mere bacche, now it is time to prove your strength. Show the Kuru elders that you are the mightiest warrior in entire Aryavart.'

Duryodhana an egoistic prince readily agreed without thinking. But hearing this Gandhari was scared. She asked Dhritarashtra, 'Arya, how could you give my sons permission to go the war against Jarasandha?'

Dhritarashtra, 'Gandhari, why are you scared. Don't you have faith in your sons? After all, Duryodhana will be the king of Hastinapur. After defeating Jarasandha he can prove his strength to everyone.'

Gandhari, 'But Jarasandha is almost unconquerable. Nobody knows how he can be killed. Even the mighty Yadavs had to leave their motherland for Jarashandha. Do you think Duryodhana can kill him?'

Shakuni entered, 'Come on my dear sister, nothing will happen to our prince? Both I and Aswatthama will be there with him.'

Gandhari, 'What about Karna. He is the best student of Lord Parshuram. You shall take him too.'

Dhritarashtra, 'No way....he had the audacity to insult my son. If it is not Duryodhana who stopped me, I will surely give him the death penalty.'

Shakuni convinced Duryodhana not to take Bheesm or Dronacharya with them. It was decided to settle a camp near the Magadha border and wait for the army of Dwarka to join them. Together they would attack Jarasandha. But both Shakuni and Aswatthama asked Duryodhana to attack the Magadha army without Dwarka as they thought they were more than capable enough to defeat Jarasandha by themselves. Duryodhana hot-headed as usual attacked Jarasandha's army without any proper strategies. Jarasandha was not only a great warrior himself but also a very good war strategist also. He also knew many magical tricks from the Asuras which could create illusions. Jarasandha with those magical powers killed many Kaurava soldiers. Duryodhana, Aswatthama, Dusshashan tried hard to break their vyuh but Magadha was very powerful.  Dusshashan and Vikarma were surrounded by thJarasandha's soldiers and were defeated. Seeing that Duryodhana asked Aswatthama to break them out, but Aswatthama knew very well that he was not able to defeat them. So he ran away from the battlefield. Shakuni was fled along with his sons. Duryodhana was surrounded by the enemies and was imprisoned.

Jarasandha, 'Ha Ha toady I caught many princes. Now my ritual will be completed. I need 100 Kshatriya royalties for the sacrifice. You Duryodhana will be my first sacrifice and then I will keep your remaining brothers as my slaves.' Then he ordered his soldiers to take all the Kuru princes to his palace and imprison them.

Krishna, 'Duryodhana this is what happens when you have overconfidence. I told you to wait for me but you have to take all credits by yourself.'
