Unforgettable Year

This is an Assassination Classroom related oneshot. There's very most likely spoilers, so if you've never seen the anime or finished watching it, I'd suggest to do that before reading this.

This is a oneshot romance between Karma and Nagisa (Karma x Nagisa), so if you don't like that, you can simply click off.

I don't think I have anything else to say but... Enjoy!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There were many problems with having a yellow tentacle monster as your class teacher, (probably too many to count to be honest), but one of the two main ones that came to mind was the fact that he wasn't human, and was to be an extreme state secret, hidden from everyone. So, blowing his cover of what he really was, was totally a no-go, seeing as he was supposed to be a SECRET until he was actually assassinated. Another issue was just that... He was too intrusive for his own good. To the point where you could be out eating somewhere, and you wouldn't even notice he was there, and he might snap a selfie for good measure.

Him being intrusive was a problem for someone like Karma. It was very true that he was quite a laid back student, (despite probably getting some of the best grades in his third year of being in the End Class), and he could handle Koro Sensei with minimum effort. Not in the way that he was able to assassinate him, as he hadn't managed many successful attempts since coming back to this school, but just that him having such an eccentric personality was something that he was able to keep out of the way when need be. But something like this... He felt like would be difficult to keep secret for long if Koro Sensei was spying on him.

Cutting to the chase... He may have had a crush on his old friend: Nagisa. He had thought of confessing to him time and time again, only to never carry through, either due to interruptions from his other classmates, from that annoying octopus, or just... He didn't end up having the guts for it in the end. He somehow found himself fearing what Nagisa's answer might be if he even tried to ask him how he felt in return. Which felt pathetic. Him? Karma? Scared? As if! But... It was an emotion he did feel around the boy with... Wonderful blue hair, pulled up into those pigtails which honestly made him look pretty adorable.

It was Karma's own fault for feeling like perhaps Nagisa wasn't interested. He was the one who had put the gap between them after all, especially when he got kicked out of school and they just didn't really see much of each other after that, not until he returned at least. But now... Being so far into the year, Karma wouldn't be surprised if Nagisa had his eyes on someone like Kayano. He saw those two together a lot, to the point he found himself growing increasingly jealous each and every time he saw the way they smiled at each other.

He had to come up with some kind of plan if he was EVER going to allow these feelings for his old friend to see the light of day. The question was what was he going to do, how was he going to confess? Valentine's day was coming up in a couple of days, but was he really going to win over his heart with such a weak gift as a box of chocolates? Maybe he could try something cooler, more interesting... But when he was sat at his desk at home, studying over his books, while also trying to rack his brain for ideas of how to confess to his crush, he was stumped. He could be intelligent with most things, but when it came to romance...?

This was the first time he had actually been romantically attracted to someone before. For it to be an old friend and even a guy is what made it a million times difficult for both reasons. Chances were that Nagisa was straight as a board, and he would look like the guy who had a face red enough to blend in with his hair, because he would be so embarrassed that Nagisa would refuse his love confession. He could only groan, holding his head in frustration, until he just decided: maybe he should text Nagisa in a casual, cool way, wondering what he would like as a gift for Valentine's day, if SOMEONE ELSE gave it to him. Of course the someone else thing would just be an excuse to make it less obvious that he was the one with a plan to ask him out. Hopefully he wouldn't suspect a thing. That was the thing about Nagisa. He was quite smart and sneaky, half the time he didn't know who was the stronger one out of either of them.

"Hey, Nagisa, sup?" Karma decided to text first, not wanting to be so pushy with a first text, feeling like if he tried with such an approach, Nagisa might get suspicious. That's right, just take it slow. Taking things slow probably wasn't his usual approach to things, as for example, rather than sneaking in for the killing blow like Nagisa would do for his job as an assassin, he would simply be good enough to use brute force - close quarters combat to take someone down. But he couldn't take his natural approach to such a situation. Nagisa wasn't like any kind of other target. He was unique in his own way, and that's why Karma had to change his tactic altogether. He waited a couple of minutes, before his phone buzzed in response.

"Oh, hey Karma! Surprised to see you text me, actually has been awhile since we've chatted over text. How are you?"

"I am good. I was actually going to ask you, if you were getting a gift for Valentine's day, what would it be?" Karma replied, already feeling the anxiety beginning to seep in. That's why Nagisa was so unique, he could actually put him on edge unlike most targets he had ever faced. And this target was a wanted boyfriend, rather than a foe.

"Probably just chocolate. I don't know. I've never really gotten gifts for Valentine's day before. Why are you asking?" Nagisa had texted back in a matter of minutes, not really replying as quick as he was each and every time he heard his phone buzz. Any time he heard that noise, he practically raced to pick up his phone off his desk. Somehow Nagisa managed to make his heart do a small flip within his chest whenever they spoke or interacted with each other. He remembered the first time he had noticed that he started feeling this way, and it had been a long night, no, it had been long days of him trying to ignore; deny what he was feeling. But eventually... He just knew when he found himself feeling jealous of Nagisa and Kayano, he had to be feeling something. It was definitely confusing for awhile, but now he was at the point where he couldn't be in denial.

"Was just asking. I heard someone was going to give you a gift, not sure who though. You'll probably have to ask Okajima. If anyone spies more on what the girls are up to, it's probably him." Karma texted once more, before deciding he had to cut the conversation off before it went too deep and he perhaps ended up talking longer than he needed to and he accidentally revealed his secret. "Anyway, I got to go. So I'll see you tomorrow at school, Nagisa." And that was the last thing he texted that night.

Even though his old friend had said that he wouldn't mind receiving chocolates for Valentine's day, Karma hated that he found himself worrying on the actual day as he was sitting at his desk, leaning his chin in his hand as he stared into space. On the outside, he looked totally calm, he didn't look concerned in the slightest, which was the complete opposite to what was going on inside of his head, as he had the small box of chocolates sat upon his table. Of course, he was snapped out of his thoughts by Terasaka, who scoffed from his desk. Karma's eyes lazily trailed over towards him, as he could already tell the scoff was aimed at him. "What do you want?" Karma murmured.

"What's with the box of chocolates upon your desk? Has someone got a bit of a crush on someone?" He mocked, but Karma didn't even flinch. A small devilish smile only crawled across his lips, as he was already ready to shoot some kind of comeback back at the arrogant student, at least until he was interrupted by a familiar octopus who only ended up getting the whole class' attention as he used his Mach 20 speed to practically materialize right in between him and Terasaka's desk.

"Having a love interest is perfectly normal." Koro Sensei put in, which only made Karma mentally groan, as now all eyes were on the three of them at the back of the class. Even Nagisa was staring with those two blue eyes of his, and it was at a time like this he actually had to fight to keep a calm composure and not go tomato red. "Especially in your teenage years. So, there is no need to tease each other over something so beautiful."

"Tch. Says the pervert. That's like getting love advice from Okajima." Terasaka commented, which made both the mentioned student and Koro Sensei squeal in distaste at his words. At this point, it was likely no surprise to the class when some kind of insult directed towards Koro Sensei would set him off into a fit of sadness. Karma's eyes just trailed down to the box of chocolates on his desk while their teacher freaked out for a bit, ranting on about how he wasn't a pervert, (even though that was very clearly quite a bit of a lie).

"A-Anyway, it is Valentine's day today! So perhaps on your break, you should exchange your gifts to one another! Okay, class, got to go!" Koro Sensei blurted quickly, and just like that he had gone out of his usual window in a flash, causing everyone in the classroom to protect themselves from the slight gust of wind, until it stopped.

"Well, looks like he left. Suppose that's him being flustered for you." Nakamura chuckled from her desk, and it was at that point that everyone just got up to start talking to one another, and likely to exchange gifts with one another for Valentine's day. As expected, Okajima was sitting hopefully at his desk, hoping at least one girl would turn up at his desk to surprise him, but nothing like that was coming for the porn-obsessed student, as expected for someone who was just WAY too forward.

Karma glanced around the room, his chin still rested upon his hand, until those two shining orange eyes of his landed upon Nagisa, who was already talking to, surprise surprise: Kayano. His eyes narrowed, while his brow furrowed a little in a mix of jealousy and anger. What was with that girl? Could she not stay away from Nagisa for five seconds without getting in the way? He just wanted to tell him how he felt, but he couldn't do that with her being around him all the time. It was at that point that he just got so mad that he got out of his seat, leaving the box of chocolates on his desk as he was heading for the door.

"Hey, Karma!" He heard a familiar voice behind him, but he simply ignored it, not wanting to look back as he knew that if he did, he might just lose his nerve. And the last thing he wanted was to cause a whole "lovers spat" in front of the entire classroom. So he just continued walking, leaving Nagisa bewildered as to why he was in a bad mood all of a sudden. Not only that, but by the time Koro Sensei returned and the next lesson came around, Karma seemed like he was skipping. Which was strange, because he hadn't done that in a while.

Before the lesson had started however, Karma was just spending his time kicking a tree in frustration, muttering over and over to himself about how stupid Kayano was, and something about "if Nagisa really wants her as his girlfriend, he can have her". He was just so sick of feeling this feeling of jealousy over and over again. Of feeling like his heart was getting pummeled to pieces any time he saw those two talk and smile at one another. Eventually, he exhaled, placing his back to the tree and he slowly sat down, staring at the ground with a frown. Maybe he should just give up on trying to tell Nagisa the truth.

When the end of class did come along, Nagisa was almost ready to leave, at least until he looked over to Karma's desk, where he still saw the box of chocolates. Truthfully, he was surprised that no one decided to take them for them self. Walking over to his desk, he picked them up in thought, seeing that there was no name on them as to who they were for. Who in the world would Karma end up giving a Valentine's gift to? Okuda maybe? Well, whoever it was, Nagisa would just try to find Karma and give these back to him, as he probably still wanted to give them to whoever he wanted to give them to.

"If you're looking for Karma, he's outside, by that tree." Koro Sensei pointed out, pointing towards the windows with one of his tentacles. Nagisa rose his eyebrows, following his eyes along to where the monster had pointed, and it did look pretty evident that there was someone still sitting there, even when it was the end of the school day. Nagisa just thanked his teacher for pointing him in the right direction, before he headed outside to where Karma was. Admittedly, before class had even started, Koro Sensei had noticed Karma out by the tree. When he heard what he was muttering about, he only knew the only kind of person who could fix such a problem. Just thinking of the possible positive outcome was enough to make him cackle to himself in his usual, memorable laugh.

"Hey, Karma." Nagisa spoke up, standing at Karma's side while the red head just continued staring at the ground, looking a tad irritated. It was also difficult not to notice that his cheeks were slightly becoming a shade of pink. Like he was embarrassed, or perhaps just plain angry. It was definitely different to that calm expression you saw on him a lot of the time. But Nagisa of all people was pretty used to Karma's range of expressions. "What was that all about? You even skipped class. And you left these." Nagisa said, holding out the box of chocolates.

"...It was nothing. Besides, you might as well keep them." Karma grumbled, going to stand up and shove his hands into the pockets of his trousers. "It's not like the person I was going to confess to would ever need them anyway." Karma went on, looking back at the blue haired boy with a blank, but noticeable glum expression. "I'm guessing you and Kayano hit it off." He spoke, which caused Nagisa to blink at him.

"N-No, not exactly. I mean, she gave me a gift but... That's about it." He explained, which caused Karma's expression to relax a little. It did turn into a slight expression of confusion, as he was so sure that him and Kayano liked each other. With the way they were around each other all the time, you would think that there would be something there, but apparently there wasn't? He even pointed that out, and Nagisa just scratched the back of his head in thought. "She's a nice girl, and she's my best friend, but she's not really more than that. Besides, I also have my mind set on someone else, but I didn't really know what to get them. They're a pretty difficult person to buy gifts for." Nagisa murmured, while Karma remained quiet. "Are you sure you don't want these back?"

"I... No, I don't." Karma replied, glancing elsewhere with his cheeks starting to burn again. Dammit, Nagisa. Why do you have to be so utterly clueless? He thought to himself. He was smart when it came to assassination, but when it came to love, he seemed like a complete dunce. "B-Because... I wanted you to have them." Karma croaked finally, hoping that the blue haired boy understood what he was getting at. For a second, it was completely silent, so because he didn't get an answer, Karma's pupils slowly trailed back to the shorter student, only to feel like his own face was going to become bright red when he saw Nagisa's blushing face. Wait, did he--?

Before the red head was really able to process anything, he found his own lips crashed up against Nagisa's in a sweet, but gentle kiss. Nagisa had clearly reached for his collar to pull him closer with his free hand, and then that free hand only moved to the back of Karma's neck, just wanting to keep him in the kiss he had always wanted for quite a long time. It did take some time for Karma to get over the shock of it, but slowly and surely, his own eyes did close, and he simply wrapped his arms around Nagisa's waist, cherishing the kiss while it lasted. The two had been old friends since forever, but to actually be here, moving their mouths in sync with one another, it was just a moment that they would never forget, and it was a moment that caused their hearts to rapidly beat within their chests, in rhythm with one another.

"Karma... I love you. I have for a long time, and I have actually been wanting to tell you for awhile... But you make it so painfully difficult to tell what you're thinking half the time, that I couldn't tell whether you just saw me as a friend, or just another classmate." Nagisa admitted, his eyes trailing to the ground for a second. "You should have just said something..."

"Like you were easy to read." Karma grumbled in return, seeing Nagisa look back at him. "When you looked at me, I could never tell how you saw me either. And the way you always smiled at your best friend, I thought there had to be something going on... It just seemed like there was no way that there wasn't anything there." Karma went on, until he exhaled. "I guess we're both idiots in this scenario..." He cracked up laughing, setting Nagisa off as well.

"So... Are we dating now?" Nagisa decided to ask, which only made Karma laugh a little more.

"I don't know, Nagisa. It's not like we didn't make out for a split second. What do you think?" Karma teased, seeing the other boy become flustered with blush and Karma could only grin at how cute he was being. "But to answer your question, yes, we are, if you want to." Karma replied, which only made Nagisa's smile widen.

"I'd love that."

By the next day, it should have been no surprise to the new couple that word got out about their encounter at the end of the school day. Only because none other than Koro Sensei had decided to take a little snapshot of their shared kiss. Nagisa looked like he was almost ready to explode with how utterly red his face went, and while Karma was somewhat humiliated, he ended up picking up one of the many different pictures that were on Koro Sensei's desk, including pictures of other students as if he was making some kind of scrap book. The photo he had in his hand was actually a picture of his and Nagisa's kiss, and he could only grin a little because of it.

"Hey, teach, can I keep this?" Karma wondered.

"Of course! I already have several copies of it anyway for my year book!" Koro Sensei repeated excitedly, while Nagisa just looked utterly horrified, as did some of the other students as the idea of their teacher having pictures of them that they hated was just a complete nightmare. And it was at that very second that many of the students - including Nagisa - were just screaming at their teacher about how much they wanted to tear the pictures to shreds, doing that to a few of the pictures in the process while their teacher also freaked out, wanting to try and save all the pictures he could.

"Heh..." Karma laughed, looking back down at the picture in his hand, and he could only continue to smile.

Without a doubt this was always going to remain an unforgettable year.
