Chapter 1: The Detective

~Karma's POV~

I was sitting at my desk doing paperwork, sighing loudly I leaned back in my chair. Although I do love my job it can get a little slow at times. I was slowly but surely nodding off when suddenly a file was slammed on my desk jerking me awake. Looking up I met the eyes of Karasuma. He looked mad about something, then again when is he not mad about something? I leaned back in my chair again and smirked. "Morning boss. How's your day been?" I questioned. "No time for small talk Akabane. I have a new case for you." He said. My eyes lit up. "Geez it's about time." I said rolling my eyes. He handed me the file that he had slammed on my desk. "Don't be getting cocky. This case is a tough one." He growled before storming off. I stared at the file for a minute before smirking. A challenging case huh? Let's see what we've got to work with. I thought opening it up. The file was about a murderer that goes by Joker. According to the file they're strong, fast, and indescribably clever. Suspect is confirmed female by the sightings of surviving victims. Last known sighting is a small alleyway not to far from here. An innocent bystander was walking by when they saw what appeared to be a person wearing all black, most noticeable about the outfit was the black tail coat jacket and (F/C) gloves which matches up with other descriptions of Joker. The bystander said that they didn't see their face but was pretty confident that they had a (F/C) and black masquerade mask on. That also matches up with the other sightings. I thought. I hummed to myself as I kept reading. When the police investigated the area they didn't find anything. No one else reported seeing a person dressed all in black and (F/C) with a mask on. Almost as if what they saw was a phantom. I thought about it for a minute. If it was Joker they saw and no one else saw them leave the alley they either A: Somehow got on the roofs, or B: There's a secret passage somewhere in that alley. I thought. I decided I'd have to investigate myself if I wanted answers. I grabbed my coat and slipped on my gloves. I walked outside to my car and drove to the alley. Once I got there I double checked the file to make sure I was at the right place before getting out of my car and walking into the alley.

The stench of garbage was enough to make any normal person gag and possibly vomit. Not me though. I was used to bad smells. I walked around keeping an eye on every corner. I looked around for a few hours before getting tired. I yawned slightly and noticed the setting sun. "Oh well. I'll come back tomorrow to look." I said with a small shrug before walking out of the alley. That's when I heard the sound of something hitting the ground. I whipped around but saw nothing. A shiver went down my spine as a cold wind blew through. "Somethings not right." I growled to myself. I had my hand hovering over my gun just incase. I stood still for a few minutes, my eyes darting left and right. I spotted no movement and nothing out of place. I sighed relaxing slightly. "I must be imagining things." I said shoving my hands back into my pockets. I walked out away from the alley and got in my car.

~Third Person POV~

Two figures walked out of the shadows after the detective left. One wore a golden tail coat and a gold and blue mask. The other wore a green tail coat with a green and gold mask. Both were clearly female. "Joker will be happy to know that her little detective is on the case." The one in gold said. "Yeah. It took them long enough. She'll be pleased. You have the thing right?" The one in green questioned. The first one nodded and pulled out the joker card. "She said if he was on the case leave it somewhere obvious right?" She questioned. The smaller female nodded. "Yeah." She agreed. The one in gold thought for a minute. "How about we leave it in his office?" She questioned. The one in green smirked. "I like that idea. Let's follow him. It's becoming night so we should be good." She agreed. They both jumped up and climbed onto the roof. They jumped from building to building quickly getting ahead of the detective's car. They both made it to the building and slipped through the window into Karma's office. The one in gold left the card on his desk and jumped out the window. She grabbed the rope quickly and the one in green pulled her back up onto the roof. "Alright Emerald let's go." She said. "Fine by me Topaz." Emerald said. And with that they made their way back to a warehouse on the edge of town. They walked in and found the secret passage that led underground. They made their way down and into the secret caverns down below. They both heard loud music coming from one of the lager caverns. And both of them sweat-dropped. "Joker's throwing a party again." Both females deadpanned in unison. They walked into the cavern and was instantly met with loud music, cheering members of the organization, games, and a crap ton of drinking. "You enjoy the party. I'll find Joker." Topaz said. Emerald nodded and joined in on one of the games. The tall female walked around for a while until she spotted the (H/C) haired female dominating in one of the poker games. "And Joker wins again." The dealer announced as the female in question smirked. She crossed her arms and legs. "Anyone else?" She questioned with confidence. "No fair! You're too good at this!" A male in a silver tail coat and a silver and gold mask said in annoyance. "You're such a sore loser Silver." A girl in a pink tail coat and pink and white mask said. "Shut it!" He barked at her. "Guys don't fight. Just accept the defeat." A male in an orange tail coat and purple and orange mask said. "SHUT UP KITSUNE!" Silver yelled. Joker just laughed at them, enjoying the small moment of chaos inside the larger chaos that surrounded her. Topaz walked over and tapped Joker's shoulder. The (E/C) eyed female turned around and her smile grew wider upon seeing Topaz. "Topaz! What can I do ya for?" She questioned. "They finally put Karma Akabane on the case." Topaz said. Joker started smirking again only this time more sinister. "It's about time. Did you give him the card?" She questioned. Topaz nodded. The (H/C) haired female got serious but her smirk never left her features. "Kitsune I'm expecting you to help him figure it out. And let me know once he gets it." She said. The male in questioned nodded. "As you wish." He said. Silver and the girl in pink smirked. "So Joker what's our role in this? Do me and Silver get to help?" The female questioned. "Of course Rose. You and Silver are defiantly helping. Are ya'll ready to cause some chaos?" She asked. "Is that even a question?" They all countered. "Now that that's settled, Topaz, care to join us for a game?" Joker questioned. Topaz smirked. "Of course Joker. Anytime." She said sitting next to the female.

After a few more poker games Joker went off somewhere. She climbed all the way up to the top of the warehouse and watched the swirling stars above. "Hmmm." She hummed to herself. "Imma go steal something. Just for the heck of it. Maybe kill a guard if I run into one." She said with an evil smirk before laughing insanely as she twirled her knife in her hand skillfully. She climbed down from the roof and and made her way into town. A target already in mind.

~Karma's POV~

I stared at the poker card on my desk. The Joker. I called for my assistant, Nagisa Shiota. "What is it Karma?" He questioned. Poking his head through the door. I picked up the card with a gloved hand. There was a high possibility this had something to do with Joker. I held it out to my old friend with a serious expression. "Run some tests on this card. Look for finger prints, invisible ink, anything at all!" I said. He nodded knowing that I was rarely ever serious, even at work. He slipped on a glove and took the card, proceeding to run out of my office. I sat down in my chair and sighed, looking over a few of the files on Joker's crimes. There's always a reoccurring theme to the way they kill. It's always a wound to the neck. I thought looking over the pictures of her victims. It also seems that they have this thing with the color red. Considering the sheer amount of blood on the walls around the body. I shivered at that thought and subconsciously ran a hand through my red hair. According to surviving victims their movements are always crazy and unpredictable. One even said that they jumped from wall to wall above their head before going in for the kill. Their laugh is always described as bone-chilling and crazy. Okay so what I'm getting from this is insane. I thought with a sigh. I made mental note of it just incase it became useful. "Let's see. Insane, sadistic from the sound of it, loves the color red...are we sure we aren't dealing with Grell?" I questioned chuckling slightly at my own joke. Suddenly my door was slammed open causing me to jump a little. It was just Karasuma though. I sighed slightly sitting back down. "Geez boss don't scare me like that." I said. "No time! There's been a sighting!" He shouted rushing out of my office. I jumped up and over my desk, following him. I ran up beside him, matching his rushed pace. "Sighting!? Who, where?" I questioned. "Joker. By the museum!" He said picking up speed. That's all I needed to hear before rushing ahead of him out to my car and driving to the only museum in town.

I went into that case completely blind. I may have been an Ace Detective, but the things that I would experience on the Joker Case....I had no idea how much I was getting into by accepting the file. I had no clue how much other-worldly s*it I'd be getting into. Not even the faintest idea of what was to come. I knew I'd be dealing with something crazy. But on the levels that I discovered. The sheer amount of bats*it insanity that surrounded just one person. But out of all the unbelievable s*it that I've experienced dealing with a Wild Card like Joker, from things with Personas, to Metaverses, to talking cats, secret Organizations, people who support killing, magic notebooks, all of that! But would you believe me, if I told you I ended up falling in love with Joker?
