3. Flaming Trash and CandyCane

After chatting with my dear crackheads, I dragged myself out of the room and headed home. I changed into my vigilante costume and triple checked my gadgets like I always do. Something tells me it's gonna be another long night. Well, not that I can help it anyway. I sighed and slipped out of my house unnoticed, using the dark to cover for me.

I pounced on the rooftops, careful as not to make sounds to attract unwanted attention and soon reached the crossroads. I could see a few heroes on patrol, scattered across the city all through my journey. Hawks was scouring the area from above, Midnight was in the eastern corner, Miriko was somewhere around, probably pouncing, and Ectoplasm was on the streets. Good, the city is alright for now. I stretched my limbs and started moving towards the more isolated parts of the town. I reached Felix crossing, the abode for nitwits. I lowered myself onto the building top and observed the surroundings. No sign of any malicious activities yet.

I was about to move to the next part of the crossing when I heard the screeching of wheels. A wagon stopped by the rope bridge which I don't have any idea as to why it was even built. A middle aged man and woman got off the wagon and looked around, probably for heroes. Finding none, they took their masks off and started taking the bags out of the trunk. Oh.. bank robbery. Surely, some or the other hero would be here soon and I better not get caught up.. or at least that's what I thought. A teen, unfortunately for me, happened to be walking by and accidentally gave them his full attention.

"Get him," The woman ordered.

The man rushed at the teen with a knife and I acted immediately, landing on the man's shoulder. I turned to the teen and yelled for him to get out which he did by running at godspeed. I looked back at the man who tried to stab me but I blocked it by grabbing his wrist. Wow, turns out, his hand is a knife- interesting quirk. The woman apparently can shoot needles from her hands. A rather impressive quirk, too bad she's a villain. I sighed because those needles will have no effect on me. I kneed the man in his abdomen, causing him to drop to the ground.

"Shie, Run!"

The woman, now dubbed Shie, turned to the man on the ground with a frown, " Why??"

"It's that vigilante! R-run!!"

Shie looked at me in shock before taking a step back. Nuh oh, I couldn't let her get away now, do I? I shrugged and ran at the woman who tried to get into the van. Poor thing. The brain often freezes in times of panic so it's safe to say - stupid move. I caught her by the scruff of her jacket and knocked her out before walking towards the wheezing man.

"Pl-please let me g-go," he begged.

I sighed and knelt to his level, "Should've thought about that before robbing the bank. Now, which bank did you get the cash from?"

"I won't t-tell you," he coughed out.

I rolled my eyes and pulled him up by his collar, "You will answer me, unless you want me to take you to Endeavour."

I could see the man's face scrunch up in disgust. Wow, people HATE that man! He bobbed his head in defeat and I let him go, not before tying his hands together because… no taking chances.

"City bank, downtown" the man managed to mumble out after a while.

Downtown? Isn't that the place the flaming pile of trash was supposed to be patrolling? Man, does that idiot ever do his job right? I rolled my eyes and neck chopped the bandit before tying them together.

"Look who it is!," I could literally feel the vile smirk on his face, "Hello, Karma…"

An involuntary groan escaped my lips before I could stop it. Not that I regret it or anything. I finished with the knots on the rope and turned to face Endeavour.

"Well if it isn't the failure of a hero! Hi Trash!"

I love me.

His flames flared. He's like a dog, gee. A bad bad dog. Gets offended easily.

"I'm going to take you in this time"

"I'd like to see you try! Buh-bye!," I giggled and started running away.

And with that, I vanished into the dark alley, texting Tsukauchi as I escaped the trashcan that's chasing me. I bet the detective is groaning on the other side. Anyway, where was I? Yeah, trash. I jumped onto the rooftops only to have fire balls thrown at me. Seriously?! I dodged each one of them effortlessly because I was used to him in the initial months.

"STOP VILLAIN! YOU CANNOT ESCAPE!!," He bellowed from behind me.

"IT'S VIGILANTE, DUMBASS! GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT!!"

I could hear him growl. Good, it's fun riling him up. The city lights winked at me as I ran across the buildings, taking intricate turns to escape the fireball behind me. I ducked into the dark alley and craned my neck to peek around the corner. Thank me for my agility or I'd be in his dirty hands now.

"THAT LITTLE! GRRR. I'LL GET HIM NEXT TIME! I'LL KILL HIM!"

Idiot.

I sighed and scanned the area around me. Good, no one's here. My anger was evident in my body language because I just faced the man I loathe from the depths of my heart.

Endeavour may be the No.2 hero but the only thing he's good at is killing people. He's a villain in hero's clothing. UA produced great heroes like Best Jeanist, Eraserhead, Present Mic and so on but darn did it produce a piece of shit like this guy. I fail to see how anything about him is hero-like! He's abrasive, violent, always spouting profanities, volatile, dangerous and aBuSiVe!! I know everything about him and his despicable character. I pity his family, no, I want to save them. Enji Todoroki- Endeavour- I'll get him behind the bars for sure!

I made my way back towards the city and started looking out for crimes. Luckily, there weren't many. After an hour or two, I went back to patrolling the remote areas and then back to the city. No crimes today. Cool! As I was making my way back home, an idea struck me. I usually never use shadow control to fly because it'll give me away but tonight, I had the urge to do it. Thank god I did.

I took advantage of the darkness and sprouted a pair of wings. They are fume-like extensions but can help me fly. I took a deep breath and leapt into the night sky, gliding in the air as I savoured the cold midnight breeze. It had been around a few months since my last attempt at flight and it feels so refreshing. I looked at the city from above, keeping a watch just in case but nothing seemed amiss… yet.

Three minutes into flight, my eyes caught sight of a certain red and white haired boy. It was obvious who he is, Todoroki Shouto, the youngest Todoroki. To be honest, he and I kinda share the same life, except, my father was gone when I was 8 and so did the abuse. But right now, what bothered me was the fact that Shouto was on the rooftop. Abused kid with depression + rooftops = Heck no! I know from experience. I sighed and gently landed a few feet away from him (A/N Btw, Endeavour's office is their hom- err, house). He seemed to have noticed my presence as he flinched slightly. Either that or he thought I was Endeavour and I'd rather jump off Mt. Everest than be compared to that trash. I slowly walked towards the candy cane and stopped just a foot away from him.

"Hey…", I greeted softly to which his body tensed.

He tilted his head ever so slightly and looked at me from the corner of his greyish eye. Shouto was sitting on the roof with his legs to his chest, eyes looking dull and lifeless. I breathed and slowly sat down beside him, making sure to leave enough space between us to avoid discomfort.

"Hello, Shouto"

His eyes widened slightly and he snapped his head towards me but spoke nothing. I could see the confusion in his eyes yet he seemed too closed off to even talk. I saw him during the sports festival. He seemed too cold and distant from the others. Shouto refuses to use his left side because apparently, it's Endeavour's power- duhh. But I have to admit that even when he uses just ice, he's really powerful. Though he lost to Katsuki in the finals, it's only because he didn't use his fire or he would've won. Of course, that only adds one more duty to my list- make him use his fire.

I chuckled and tilted my head, "Surprised that I know your name? I'm assuming you have no idea who I am"

Shouto just looked at me and shook his head. Wow.. not even a simple 'no'? His shell is thicker than I thought. I need the right approach to break through and I know it's not going to be easy.

"Not much of a talker, are you? Well, I'm Karma, the Vigilante Endeavour keeps chasing but fails to catch."

I specifically watched my words because I was almost about to say 'your dad' but luckily, I kicked myself mentally before I could utter it. His eyes held mild surprise and amusement. Ha, I like to amuse myself at Endeavour's expense as well.

"What are you doing here, Shouto? It's 3:15 in the morning."

He just stared at the night sky making me crack a sad smile under my mask.

"Couldn't sleep?, " could see him nod slightly, an almost negligible movement, "Nightmares?"

"..."

I sighed and looked at him, his cheek had a reddish mark and his hands seemed to have similar marks. My blood boiled at the sight. There was a bruise on his right arm, padded with dried blood. I sighed and looked at him only to see him looking at me with an unreadable expression.

"Can I come closer?," I asked softly.

He stared at me for a moment or two before nodding. I moved a bit closer but made sure there's enough space.

"Can I touch you? I swear, I mean no harm"

He nodded again, this time, more confused. I pursed my lips and slowly touched his hand causing him to flinch. I fought a wince and carefully lifted his hand to examine the wound. I could heal him.. I should heal him. He's gonna attend classes tomorrow and surely, he'd hate the attention of fellow students. It's a small bruise, I might feel a little drained out so that's not a big issue.

I slowly pat Shouto's arm, "I'm going to heal this bruise. It's gonna sting a little but I promise it's gonna be alright, okay?"

He didn't give a response so I assumed it to be a yes. I placed my hand on his bruise and trained my ears to his mouth. He didn't even hiss.. god he's used to this and it's NOT a good sign at all. I grit my teeth and closed my eyes, concentrating my energy into my palm. Dull ivory white glow covered the area and within seconds, the bruise was gone along with the red marks. I took my hand away and looked at him, almost chuckling at his face. His eyes were wide, brimming with awe and lips slightly parted in surprise.

"The other arm as well?"

He looked at me for a moment before shaking his head in denial. I let it be because I don't want to push him. We stared at the sky for a few minutes, enjoying the comfortable silence. I felt heaviness starting to take over my senses and sighed.

"Shouto-kun, it may be difficult for you to believe me but trust me, I know what you're going through. I know everything about Endeavour and his… parenting."

I really didn't want to say abuse lest I trigger something. He looked at me with slightly widened eyes and spoke for the first time since I came here.

"You…. Do?.... How?"

I smiled under my mask, "I'm a vigilante, Shouto-kun. I make it my business to know about people I have to deal with. It's my duty to save people and just because it's a hero doesn't mean they are angels."

He stared at me for a few seconds and nodded.

"What I want to say is.. if you want to talk, I'll always be there for you. I'll be patrolling this area around this time. If you can't sleep or if you want to talk, just be here."

He nodded slowly as if contemplating his options.

I felt my senses getting dizzy, "It's late, I should get going. Please promise me that you'll not tell anyone about our meeting"

Shouto looked at me and nodded slightly, "Okay"

"You should get back to bed. You have school tomorrow. Good night."

I floated into the air, waving him goodbye but he didn't wave back. I expected that anyway. I stayed till he was inside before turning to head home. I could feel my eyes drooping and flew as fast as I could. As soon as I entered my room, I fell on the bed with a thud and dozed off. What a day.
