[Chapter 2]

The Beast is 1132 miles from New Marais

After absorbing the Blast Core, Cole awoke with a new set of skills.
Increased agility, strength, even the ability to lift and blast a car into the air.

"I don't know what to say, man," Zeke had said as he watched his friend take down a group of militia. "But we need more of those."

Kuo pitched through the phone with the idea that Blast Shards -the things that fell through the sky after the explosion- could help in expanding his energy storage, helping him fight longer and harder.

Whatever was in that Blast Core, it was a huge upgrade.

"Hey, uh..." Zeke dragged on through the phone. "Remember back when we came here the first time, and I, uh, got involved with some... unsavory characters?"

Cole's chuckle reaches Zeke's ears. "Yeah, yeah. A little penicillin, it all cleared up."

"Well, now it's your turn. Couple of 'em still had my number; they're looking for some help from the 'Electric Man'."

"Oh, godddd," Cole groaned loudly.
His phone beeped and he took a quick look at the coordinates Zeke sent before jumping off the building he had decided to rest on.

Using his Static Thrusters, he (not so secretly) made his way across town before landing right where Zeke stood.

"Hey, man, word is out. I got contacted by a cop and a junkie."
"Wow," Cole hummed sarcastically. "That's quite the fanbase."

"These people take you seriously, man. Helping them out will send a message. Look, New Marais is a fresh start for us, a clean slate."

Cole nodded dismissively.
"Yeah, yeah, alright."

"Hey, these people pay attention! Especially when you got lightning coming outta your hands."

"Karma's a bitch, I get it."

"Whatcha gonna do," Zeke finally asked.

"I'm gonna send a message."

With a presenting hand, Zeke points just across the street to the docks where a police officer stands, waiting.

Cole makes his way to the other side of the road and let's the cop fill him in with a glance over at the nearby mansion.

"The militia gang's shooting up anybody they think are deviants. If you're a good man like they say, you'll stop them and heal the wounded."

Heal The Injured Civilians Near The Mansion

Cole flipped his way over the fence and landed before the pond that separated him from the hurt.

He ignored the familiar buzzing in his body when he leaped over the pool of water. Touching that water would mean an unwanted amount of pain.

The ground was back beneath his feet and instantly his eyes locked with the three individuals squirming on the floor, each holding different parts of their bodies.
Their faces scrunched up in pain.

He quickly ran over to them and healed them, moving to Pulse Heal the last one when his ears heard a call for someone to "fly"

It took a moment of confusion -and a body to fly off the roof of the mansion- for Cole to realize the militia had taken the 'deviants' hostage.

Save The Hostages

His body moved on its own, and soon he was halfway up the side of the house when more shouts run out.

Only this time, it didn't sound like fear. It was almost like...struggle?

Whatever it was, Cole was determined to find out as he pulled himself onto the shingled roof.

"Again...?" He asked himself, voice slowly dwindling to silence.

All three executioners were knocked out, gear torn and skin bruised.
They were stuck to the roof by a single restraint; a loop of rock wrapped around the front half of their necks.
It connected with the roof and cracks followed from where they impacted.

The hostages were back on the ground, already running away from the incident.

Cole flipped on his phone's camera.

"Aw, man," Zeke groaned. "Something got there before you did."

"Yeah, but what," Cole asked, still peering at the rock  with narrowed eyes.

"I don't know... I'll look into it," Kuo said, voice laced with interest. "Whatever caused this is on our side. I mean look, they've taken down the militia."

"I don't know about you guys, but if the earth suddenly started swallowing people, I wouldn't want to be on it's bad side," Zeke added before disconnecting from the call.

"I'll look into it later," Kuo says, "but right now the officers are taking fire. Go. Give them your support."

"Yeah." Cole nods to no one in particular and hops away from the strange scene. "I'm on it."
