Chapter 7: A Slight Change In Plans
Well, it's Friday now. It's also been two days, six hours, and forty-one minutes since you let Dave walk out of your life. God, the pain has been unbearable. You've practically been a ghost. You try to help with the wedding, but you're such a broken mess that you're not of any use. After that first night, you haven't asked Dirk to sleep with you again. He'd asked you what you planned on doing once the wedding, which is first thing in the morning, was over. You told him that Kat had offered for you to stay with her and the girls. You'd accepted.
You haven't heard from Dave at all, though according to Dirk, he's doing okay. Maybe you're a terrible person for thinking so, but you can't stand the fact that he's so much better off than you. Rumors are going to start at school. You know they will. Thankfully, you're graduating this year, so you'll never have to see any of those people again.
You glance over at the clock. 1:27 am. You groan softly and sit up, rubbing at your puffy, red eyes. You've been crying since you came to bed at 9:30. How could you have been so stupid? Of course Dave would be okay without you. You were lucky to land a guy like that and you took him for granted. Did he make mistakes? Of course. That doesn't mean you're innocent either.
You've been chatting with Meenah in your downtime. She apologized about a million times for indirectly ruining your almost three year relationship. You told her it wasn't her fault and that it was over long before it started. Even if that's true, it still hurts like hell. Your chest constantly feels like it's in a vice, especially when you think about him. That's literally all the time. Your nose is always raw from blowing it so often, and your eyes are always tired and bloodshot. All you want is Da-
You're snapped out of your thoughts when you hear a clinking at your window. With a frown, you dab at your eyes as you follow the sound, cautiously glancing out the window. When you do so, you see Cat tossing pebbles at the glass. You frown and open the window, whispering, "What are you doing down there?"
She motions you down. "I need to talk to you!"
You shiver from the chill of the wind, your ears lowering in discomfort. "Can't we talk inside?"
"We can talk in my car. It's already heated up. Let's go." She sounds desperate.
You sigh and pinch the bridge of your nose, motioning for her to wait. She smiles brightly and nods, going to her car and waiting. You grumble as you slip on a jacket and shoes, sneaking downstairs and out the door to the car. You slide in the passenger side with a shiver and buckle up. "Care to explain what was so pressing and where we're going?"
She holds her phone out to you as she pulls out of the driveway. "Scroll to the right." You look over the pictures on the small screen. It's a conversation between Neo and someone named Avo.
Neo: We can't talk anymore. My wedding is tomorrow.
Avo: Why are you fucking marrying that chump? Babe I can give you everything you could ever want
Neo: You expect me to just up and leave him?
Avo: I don't see what the fucking issue with that is
Neo: You need to stop. It was fun while it lasted, but I can't keep going behind Kris's back like this.
Avo: Bitch you ain't even fucking religious and you're marryin a priest. You know you'd rather be with me.
Neo: So what? He's a good guy.
Avo: Fuck that. We all know you don't want a good guy. You want me.
Neo: What's your point?
Avo: I'm coming to that fucking wedding. You'd better say you don't wanna marry him or I'll exploit your ass myself.
Neo: You have nothing on me.
Avo: Don't I?
You quickly squeeze your eyes shut. You've seen that woman naked one too many times. You don't need the mental image of her nudes in your head. Instead, you scroll to the next picture. Much to your horror, the next few pictures of the chat are nothing but nudes. You finally find where Neo responds to all of this.
Neo: I told you to delete those!
Neo: I swear to god if you set foot anywhere near my wedding I'll kill you!
Avo: A good lawyer like you should know that's illegal. She should also know not to sleep with her clients, but you love breaking rules.
Neo: I'll think about it. Please don't show up.
Avo: If I see a ring on your finger after tomorrow, your secret's out.
Neo: Fine. I understand.
You furrow your eyebrows. "She's cheating on dad?"
Kat nods. "With one of her clients. He was arrested for selling drugs. Well, more than that. He's a kingpin. Deals with hard drugs like meth and cocaine. She's going to leave him at the alter. I don't want that."
"Why'd you take her phone and look through it in the first place? Better yet, how'd you even get it off of her?" You ask, curiosity getting the best of you.
She's silent for a minute before she replies honestly. "I was suspicious. That and... I may or may not still have feelings for your father. As for how I got it, I have my ways."
You smile a little. "I knew it. But that still doesn't explain where we're going." You comment as you glance around outside. You can't see much in the dark and you're not familiar enough with the area to have even the slightest clue.
"Like I said, I don't want your father to be left alone at the alter," She replies, eyes locked on the road.
"Meaning?"
"It means I'm putting my old wedding plans into effect, and you and Dirk are going to help me go last minute dress shopping."
~Author's Note~
Avo is the Grand High Blood. Avo means high in Malagas.
That's all.
