Chapter 8: Jealousy

"KOUSEI! KOUSEI!"

I woke up by the sound of Kaori banging on the door, shouting my name over and over again. I covered my ears with my pillow and continued sleeping. A while later, my phone began to ring. I groaned and turn the silent mode on. She was stilling knocking and I just ignored it and slept. My phone began vibrating and the along with the knocking, my brain began melting. I got up from my bed and swung the door opened. Kaori was standing there and she gave me smile.

"Ohaiyou (Good morning), Kousei," she said. "You look good without glasses."

I closed the door at her face and went back to bed. I covered myself with my blanket, but then the door swung open and Kaori began kicking me off the bed. I curled up in my blanket, not being bothered by her kicks.

"WAKE UP!" she shrieked at the top of her lungs.

"Fine," I muttered, sitting up from the bed.

I leaned to the side table and searched for my glasses by touch because I couldn't see anything. She helped me get my glasses and I wore them. I looked at her, dully, got up from the bed and started walking towards the bathroom. I brushed my teeth and went down to the kitchen to get my usual glass of milk. I poured myself a warm glass and sat on the counter. I heard a familiar song being played on a violin and my lips curved into a smile.

"Mendelssohn - violin concerto in E minor," I said to myself with a smile.

The song came to an end and I came back to my senses. How long was I sitting here? I felt the glass of milk on my hand went cold. Her playing made me lost in thought. I got on my feet after drink the remaining milk, I washed my glass and headed to the music room.

Kaori was standing there, checking a file of music sheets that was on the shelf.

"You played well," I said.

She turned her attention to me. "Thanks," she said, smiling. "Sit there." She pointed at the piano bench.

I sat there and looked at the keys of the piano. I felt it coming closer to me and the keys becoming longer and wider. I couldn't hear anything for a while, but I could hear Kaori's muffled voice speaking to me, even if I couldn't make out what she was saying.

"Kousei!" she said. My heart jumped and my stare at the piano stopped when I looked at her. She gave me a suspicious look and I noticed she had a file with her.

"What's wrong?" she asked.

"Nothing," I said.

She came and placed the file on the sheet stand. I read which song it was and my eyes widened.

"Why this?!" I asked, shocked.

"I didn't hear you play since I was appointed to the hospital, remember?" she said. "The last time I heard you was when you played with that girl named Nami."

"It's Nagi," I corrected.

"Whatever. I'll record with my phone." She did something on her phone and placed it beside the sheet stand.

"Can I read it before playing?" I asked.

"Sure."

I took and placed the file on my lap and began reading. I remembered Emi Igawa, the girl who was with me during the competitions playing it once. Kaori might've like it and wants me to play it. It's a really difficult piece and I don't think I can do it. I was playing on the sheets to practice my hand movements.

"Try learning the first three pages," Kaori said.

I nodded and looked back at the music sheet. I kept it back on the stand and placed my hands above the keys, ready to play.

Kaori's POV

I pressed the record button of my phone and told Kousei to start playing and I knew he was anxious about it but he has to. I don't wanna be his excuse for not playing.

He began playing and the silence in the room broke. As usual he was making a lot of mistakes. A lot.

I could see the intense look in his face as he looked at his hands while playing. His playing doesn't sound that good and he was pushing the keys too hardly. I moved forward to turn the page. His blue eyes were moving from the keys to the stand frantically and I know he's still not getting the hang of it. He finally stopped playing since he had finished the third page.

He looked down, ashamed and turned his gaze to me.

"It was bad, right?" he asked, his hands on his lap.

"Yep," I said. I took my phone and played the recording.

His jaw dropped when he heard it.

"NO!!!" he shouted, frustrated. "THAT'S NOT ME!!!"

"I hate to break it to you but that was you entirely," I said. He facepalmed his face and then looked at me, sadly. "Practice makes perfect! Try again."

He pouted. "I don't wanna," he said.

"You must!!" I said. I noticed the window was closed and went over to open it. I saw Tsubaki looking over with her binoculars. I accept the fact she likes him too, but stalking is an exception. "Kousei? Why is Tsubaki-chan looking here?"

"What do you mean?" he asked, walking over beside me. His eyes widened when he saw her and she lowered the binoculars and glared at him. My heart ached for a second when he opened the window.

"I knew you went crazy!!" she said, pointing at him.

"You're the one who's crazy!!!" he shouted back. "This is the second time I'm catching you spying on me!!!"

THIS HAPPENED BEFORE TOO?!

Tsubaki remained silent at his comment for a while. "It's because you're making me worried."

If she's going to confess her feelings right now, I'm going to haunt her for the rest of her life.

"Ok then," Kousei said. "I'll come to school from now on. That way you don't have to spy on me."

My jaw dropped. He didn't want to go to school when I asked him to, but he'll go school just because she was worried about him?! If only I was alive, then I could give her a piece of my mind!!! And why is this guy so dense? Even an idiot would know that she likes him!!

"Fine," Tsubaki replied. "See you at school, then." She closed the curtains to her window.

Kousei turned and gave me a concerned look. "What's with that face?" he asked.

I looked away from his gaze. "Nothing," I said. "So, are you going to school today?"

He shrugged. "Yes?"

I gave him a death glare. "Lemme guess, it's because Tsubaki was worried about you?" I asked, angrily.

"No, it's because I'm worried about myself," he said.

"I've made up my ingenious mind!" I said, pointing my index finger upwards.

"Ingenious?" he said, laughing. "I doubt it."

"Too bad 'cause I have a school to go to," I said, walking out the door.

"EHH!!!" Kousei exclaimed.

I went over to my room and changed into my uniform. I took it because I wanted it for remembering things, to make Kousei remember the memories we had together and also because it's really comfortable to run in.

I dressed up and went to the kitchen to get myself something to eat. I saw Kousei reading the music sheets I gave him, while eating a sandwich. I kicked him angrily off the chair and began beating him up.

"Why are killing me?!" he asked, loudly.

"I wanted to cool down," I said, levelling my uniform.

"Why?"

"Personal reasons," I said.

I actually wanted to calm myself because I felt bad for not taking revenge on Kousei for tearing my letter. After all, it was really hard to write since I couldn't hold anything properly then.

"So," I said. "What's for breakfast?"

"Nothing," Kousei said, getting up from the floor.

"Why not? You're eating a sandwich, I want one too."

"There's one in the fridge and also I forgot to tell you, I kept and bunch of papers and a pen on the dinning table. Make sure you write the first two sentences," he said, giving me an evil smile.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever," I said, eating the sandwich.

There was silence between us because he was busy reading the music. I smiled at myself at the fact that I got really jealous of Tsubaki for making Kousei go to school. This may be selfish but I wanted to spend more time with him alone. If it was at school, Watari and Tsubaki might be with him and I would feel left out. I guess I should let them have the fun I couldn't have. Kousei was so concerned when he finished his conversation with Tsubaki. What a sweetheart? If only he loved me ba-

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING??!!!" I shouted when I noticed him staring at me.

"Why were you smiling?" he asked.

"None of your business," I said, eating my sandwich. "WERE YOU THINKING PERVERTED THINGS ABOUT ME?!"

"No!" he said.

"GOOD!!"

He gave me a confused look and turned his gaze back to the file.

Anyways, him being dense is a good thing because he wouldn't find out about me or my greatest lie.

My lie in April.
