Pikachu Line

Guess watt

It's time for the chapter that has been long awaited! We all knew this day was coming, so don't even pretend to be shocked. It's time for the timeless classic, the worldwide superstar, and the one and only: Pikachu!

Are you stunned that I'm starting off strong with the puns? Don't be! Let's just say this chapter has given me a spark of inspiration, on that front.

...Anyways. Let's get into it!

(Note: Before you read any further, please remember that I am only evaluating the Kanto Pokémon. This means that Pichu will not be factoring into my evaluation, nor will any special Raichu forms. Thanks!)

Type Factor:

Pikachu and Raichu are plain electric types, so there is no type combination, here. Pikachu is weak to ground type moves while holding an advantage over flying and water types.

Since there's no type combination to account for, Pikachu's type factor is pretty straight forward. Just remember that Pikachu's electric moves won't affect ground types!

Design Factor:

I can't lie... I'm weak for Pikachu's design. It's just so cute!

As a kid, I always wanted a Pikachu of my own to play with and cuddle. You would think the yellow fur and the red cheeks would clash, but in my opinion, it creates a friendly and fun image. Once Pikachu evolves into Raichu, the color scheme becomes a bit more neutral and evened out, almost like it is visually demonstrating Raichu's newfound maturity!

Overall, I really enjoy this evolutionary line's design. It's a classic for a reason, I suppose!

Lore Factor:

Although Pikachu is small, it isn't weak. If a group of Pikachu are gathered together, their sheer electric power can create lightning storms! Also, Pikachu is known to be a rather intelligent Pokémon. It has been observed roasting berries by giving them electric jolts, making them more pleasant to eat. How shocking!

As for Raichu, this Pokémon can store so much electricity that it can glow in the dark! However, if it stores too much, it will start to feel agitated and become aggressive, so it tries to discharge that energy when possible. This Pokémon is capable of unleashing 100,000-volt bursts of energy, defeating enemies several times its size with ease! Talk about impressive!

Stats Factor:

Once Pikachu has evolved into Raichu, the stats are fairly decent. Raichu's speed is by far it's strongest base stat, but attack and special attack are tied for second. Essentially, this Pokémon is fast and can land some pretty strong hits. So, if you're planning on battling a Raichu, keep that in mind!

Evolutionary Factor:

To me, this evolutionary line is really neat! I enjoy the design change between Pikachu and Raichu. Raichu grows into something more powerful and mature while still maintaining that adorably playful air that Pikachu has. Not to mention, Raichu becomes decently strong upon evolution, so that's a nice bonus!

Conclusion:

This evolutionary line is a classic, but that's the end of its merits. There's a long list of great things this Pokémon can provide to your team! Whether the type, design, lore, or stats, this Pokémon is a well-rounded and likable one. Having this Pokémon on hand can give any trainer a surge of pride!

To my fellow researchers:

What are your thoughts on Pikachu? Is it a well-deserved favorite, or an overrated sort? Leave your thoughts in the comments!
