Meowth Line
What chapter are we on, again? Meowth, that's right!
This Pokémon is famous (or should I say infamous?) for its regular appearance in the Pokémon anime. I would argue that Meowth's popularity could even rival Pikachu's, in some areas! Let's take a look, shall we?
Type Factor:
This Pokémon (in the older generations, at least) is a pure normal type. That means that this Pokémon is as useful as you allow it to be! Since it has no offensive advantages, one defensive weakness (fighting), and one immunity (ghost), this Pokémon is practically a blank slate just waiting for you to use it to its highest potential!
Design Factor:
I absolutely love this Pokémon's design! I like how Persian remains close to Meowth's core image while still drastically changing some aspects of it. I think that the plain beige really makes the coin/gem on their foreheads stand out, which is perfect, because that's the main attraction, anyways!
Lore Factor:
Meowth's Pokédex entry is kind of adorable! According to the entries, this Pokémon loves round and shiny things. It is so fascinated by shiny things, like coins, that its eyes are known to glow with happiness when it finds one. Interestingly enough, upon evoliving to Persian, this Pokémon goes from coveting to coveted. Persian is renowned for its lovely fur and gorgeous gem on the forehead, but it is fickle about who may pet it. Quite the personality transformation!
Stats Factor:
Persian's strongest stat is by far the speed stat, which makes sense, since this Pokémon has such a nimble build. As for the weakest stat, that is unfortunately the defense stat, which really doesn't favor Persian since the only type it is weak to (fighting type) mostly uses physical attacks. Definitely something to keep in mind!
Evolutionary Factor:
Is this evolutionary line interesting? Is it endearing? Is it memorable? Yes, yes, and yes! The change from Meowth to Persian is simple yet complex enough to really keep my attention. It's a perfect balance!
Conclusion:
Meowth is an icon, and this Pokémon has a lot going for it. It's arguably one of the most interesting normal types in the original generation. So if you're looking for a classic Pokémon to add to your team, Meowth is the perfect fit!
To my fellow researchers:
Is Meowth too overhyped? Or too underrated?
