Chapter 9
Sam
"Why are we following Kane and Nia again? Can't we just mind our business? What is snooping around going to get us anyway?" Hyejin sighed and shook her head at Sam, who obviously wasn't in the mood to randomly roam around the main pack house. But of course he did it anyway because she had asked him to. He would almost never say no to her, especially when she considered it to be so important.
"I have a feeling that something is going to happen. I can't explain it but it's a feeling in the pit of my stomach... something is urging me to follow them and I can't explain why. You know I get these type of impulses all the time." She was slowly walking down the hallway, giving her mate an apologetic look. Sam just smiled, grateful he was able to understand her emotions more every single day and he knew that this wasn't a flaw like many people thought it was. Sam was probably the only person in her life who fully understood.
"I know, and besides, you're almost always right about these things anyway. If they're up to something dangerous then they should be stopped. They could hurt themselves or others." Hyejin grinned at Sam and kissed him on the cheek. "Thank you, I really appreciate it."
"You're welcome. Although I am a bit grateful that you were patient enough for us to send Liam off when 12 midnight hit. Everyone was so fucking loud, I thought I was going to go deaf." Sam rubbed his ears glad the loud ringing noise disappeared a while ago.
Hyejin laughed and clapped her hands together."I'm so happy for him! I can only imagine how nervous he is. I was super nervous when it was my birthday." Sam just looked at her with a doubtful expression on his face. "No you weren't nervous at all actually, I was the one panicking in a corner thinking about how we could possibly not be mates. All while you knew we were mates the entire time!"
She held up a finger playfully disagreeing with him as she tried to speak through her laughter as she recalled Sam in a corner at her birthday party, practically trying not to rip his own head off before midnight. "I didn't know for sure, I was only 99.9 percent sure we'd be mates. But even if I told everyone that I already knew they would just think I was insane. And you know I can be a bit crazy but no one would have believed that."
Sam laughed when he realized that some of their friends would've probably tried to put her in a psych ward if she said knew for sure who her mate would be.
"I would've believed you, and you could have at least hinted to me so I wouldn't have almost died from how hysterical I was. And besides, you're not crazy, you're just... spiritually inclined." Sam nodded his head, agreeing with his own statement. All while Hyejin just laughed as she continued leading him down the hallway. "Spiritually inclined? Is that what you call it? Everyone else just calls me crazy."
"You're not crazy, people just don't understand all of it. If they did I'm sure they wouldn't act like this if you actually went to the pack witch instead of refusing to every single time I bring it up." He wrapped his arm around Hyejin, laughing when she started to vehemently shake her head. "Nope, not doing that. I'm going to pretend to be as normal as possible. A lot of people already think I'm too weird for a werewolf. Why would I confirm their suspicions?"
"Who cares what they think? I personally think it's awesome. How many vampires can say that they're soulmate is a werewolf that can basically predict the future?" He flashed her a bright smile, showing off his fangs. All while Hyejin had to stop herself from jumping his bones, she had to focus.
"I don't predict the future I just-" Hyejin stopped in her tracks, feeling someone coming closer. Sam looked at her, confused by why they stopped walking. "Hyejin what's wrong? Why'd you stop?"
She quickly crouched against the wall, yanking Sam next to her. "Someone's coming." Sam looked ahead at the empty corridor, confused.
She look at him and smiled. "Not here, over there." She gestured around the corner that led to another hallway. Sam didn't hear footsteps or any sound that would indicate that someone was coming. But he trusted her so he waited. For a few minutes it was just deafening silence until they saw Kane walking down the hallway. Hyejin looked at Kane confused, wondering if he saw both her and Sam peering around the corner but it was apparent that he did not. Kane continued down the hallway, leaving their limited line of sight.
Hyejin quickly turned around to look at Sam, who didn't know what was going on but had just learned to live with it. "Go after him, something important is about to happen. I'll continue going down the hallway."Sam furrowed his eyebrows as he wondered what could Kane be involved in that could possibly be important. "What could possibly happen? Before we thought Kane and Nia were just snooping around, but it's obvious they weren't now."
Hyejin shook her head, "Didn't you see where he came from? What was he doing during near the restricted wing of the pack house? Didn't you notice how Nia isn't with him? I've gotta go, I can't afford to be late." Hyejin darted down the hallway, barely giving her mate any time to react.
"What are you doing? And what are you late for?" Sam yelled after her, she turned around and gestured for him to go.
"Just trust me." She smiled and continued running down the hallway. Sam looked after her, sighing and started towards the hallway that Kane had been walking down.
"I hope she won't be late. I have no fucking clue what's she gonna be late for, but I hope she's not late."

Nia
Once Kane had left, all Nia could do was stand there, gazing at the open door that led into the seemingly endless darkness of the archives. Nia didn't understand why she was so apprehensive compared to the last time she was here ,maybe it's because this time she knows exactly what is in the archives. And at this point it was taking all of Nia's willpower not to psyche herself out, she came here to get the spell-books and that is exactly what she will do.
She took a deep breathe and walked in, closing the fortified, metal door behind her. As soon as the door closed she was enveloped in total darkness. Nia quickly turned on the flashlight on her phone, only to look around to see vast expanse of books and files in a room that scraped the colossal ceiling. Nia internally cursed as she tried to recall where she had found the ancient texts the last time she was there but it was hazy.
"Damn it, why can't I remember anything? How did I even find it last time? Kane could be in trouble , I don't have time for this..." Nia quickly walked further into the archives, shining her light towards the hundreds of bookshelves that reached the ceiling. The further she walked the more discouraged she became, not only did the room seem endless but she also couldn't recall how she had managed to find the book those few months ago.
"Maybe I shouldn't have come here, it was all just a mistake. All of it, maybe if I leave now I can just pretend I never thought of this stupid idea in the first place." Nia ran her heads through her thick curls, trying to decide whether or not she should leave. "I-I shouldn't have even thought of this... I can't believe I convinced Kane to do this with me." Nia turned around, prepared to run back towards the exit when she heard a soft, comforting sound beckon her. It was a faint whisper that reached her heart quicker than it reached her ears. It felt extremely familiar to her even though she had sworn that she had never heard it before.
"Where is that sound coming from?" Nia craned her neck to listen to the sound only to realize that she had turned her back towards the exit and was now walking in the direction of the beautiful sound. She closed her eyes to focus on the sound as she walked through the archives, not even fully realizing where she was going. Just a few minutes before she was panicking, too full of worry to even contemplate being able to find the grimoires. But now Nia felt comforted as a feeling of confidence blossomed in her chest and spread to ever bone in her body.
"What's happening to me? Is this magic?" The sound grew louder, as if it was confirming her suspicions. Nia started running as the noise inscreased a feeling of relief swept up her heart as she saw a bright light, she followed the light only to see a glass case with two books surround by a circle of empty bookshelves. Nia could tell that this place was well hidden and while in her mind she couldn't remember ever being here she realized she had to have been or else she wouldn't have the first spell-book.
"I can't believe it, it's right there. Thank goodness I found it." Nia smiled and ran towards the case at first with a bit of hesitation until she realized that the books had called to her, so they obviously wanted her to get them.
Not knowing what to, do she placed her palm on the case, just going off of instinct. The glass case quickly vanished into thin air and Nia grabbed one of the books, practically bursting with excitement. As soon as she pulled her hand away the glass case appeared again, this time looking reinforced. Nia tilted her head, confused as to why the glass appeared again. "Huh, I haven't gotten the other book yet, why did the glass appear again?" Although she was a bit confused she shrugged it off and tried to open it again, and when nothing happened Nia grew frustrated, wondering why it didn't work.
"Why isn't it working?!" Nia tried again only for the glass under her palm to become hotter, to the point where it burned her hand. "Ow!What the hell!" Nia looked at the glass only for its blinding light to become overwhelming, she sheilded her eyes only to hear a familiar voice scream her name.
"Nia! Watch Out!"
Then she was tackled to the ground as she heard a loud booming sound. The empty bookcases behind her shook as she and another person fell to the floor. Nia eyes and ears hurt as she laid on the ground, she couldn't even see who lay next to her, thanks to the light that hurt her eyes. But she could tell who it was by their voice.
It was Hyejin. Nia had no idea where she had come from or why she had been it the archives but she was grateful. All Nia did was lay there with the book in her hands until her sight came back and Hyejin just sat there, waiting for her to speak. Once her sight came back she sat up and looked around. While the case containing the spellbooks was still intact, she could see that one of the empty bookshelves had been turned to ash.
It was the exact bookshelf behind where Nia had been standing. Only then did Nia come to the realization that if it wasn't for Hyejin, that would've been her...
Nia turned to see Hyejin staring at her with a concerned expression, one that held a lot of sadness, as if she could see things that Nia could not. Slowly Hyejin reached out to Nia and put a hand on her arm. "Are you okay?" All Nia could do was nod her head, too afraid to speak. Then Hyejin got up and offered a hand to Nia,who accepted, trying to ignore the pain in her left hand.
"It's okay, you don't have to lie. Come on, let's hurry up and get out of here. This place is creepy."
End. I just wanted to let y'all no that I changed Lynn's name to Hyejin. I just think Hyejin is a cuter name that is less stereotypical. The next chapter will definitely be about Kane and Liam.
