Chapter 7
Kane
"You know Nia, it's never too late to change your mind about this. Maybe we should just go back to my place and watch Netflix." Nia and Kane we're standing right outside the gate of the main pack house. One person was bursting with excitement while the other would rather go on a dangerous, life-threatening mission then be surrounded by a bunch of obnoxious werewolves.
"Nah, I'm good. I need that spell book Kane and this is the only time I'll be able to go without looking suspicious." Nia cradled the gift she bought for Liam in her hands, looking thoroughly dedicated to playing the part of a teenager wanting to party.
Kane snorted as he looked at the perfectly wrapped gift. "We look even more suspicious now. The pariahs of the school showing up to one of the biggest events of the year? We could probably just get away with wandering around on a regular day more than today."
Nia raised an eyebrow at him, wondering why Kane was feeling so much more apprehensive than usual. "Are you worried about something Kane? You seem kind of... jittery."
Kane didn't really understand why he felt so worried today. Usually he wouldn't feel like this but all of a sudden Kane just didn't feel that he should be here. But then another part of him was saying that he should be here.
"I'm fine Nia, it's probably just the fact that it's a Saturday and I'm here instead of sleeping. And his birthday isn't even today, why the hell do they celebrate it a day before?" He knew he sounded whiny but he didn't understand, why would they party until 5am when they could be at home sleeping instead?
Nia laughed, wholeheartedly agreeing with his point. "It's stupid but the point is to party until midnight and then Liam is gonna go find his mate. And then they'll party some more once their future delta meets his mate. A lot of people started to show up at 8 pm, even if Liam said the party starts at 10."
Kane sighed, still somewhat confused by the process. "Okay... I guess that makes sense."
She laughed and grabbed his arm to pull him through the gate. "Now stop stalling and come on. We gotta get this over with as soon as possible." Her and Kane walked through the gate, ignoring all of the people loitering around the lawn glaring at them. And it only got worse once the whispering started.
"What the hell are they doing here."
"I can't believe Nia had the guts to show up. Doesn't she know that Thomas is gonna be here?"
"That's probably why she showed up. Don't you see how short her skirt is? She's definitely trying to get Thomas back."
After hearing all of the insults being thrown at her, Nia tugged on her skirt forcing it to cover more. Kane rolled his eyes at the werewolves, trying to keep himself from flipping them off or else he'd probably get into a fight. Instead he threw his arm over her shoulder, trying to shield her from the people. Nia smiled up at him and flashed her a grin as they walked inside the building.
"Thanks, Kane. Sometimes I almost forget just how much this pack hates me."
"You're welcome. And you look perfect, these people don't know what they're talking about. They're too busy being idiots. "
Even though the people had ruined her good mood she couldn't help but laugh. "Yeah, I'm sure that's why they hate me."
They both couldn't help but laugh helping Nia's mood go back to normal.
Until someone cleared their throat, obviously meaning to interrupt them. Kane looked ahead to notice that Sam and Hyejin were standing in front of them, patiently waiting. Enesta, Liam, and Thomas weren't there so it was confusing as to why they were there. They were usually only seen with them. Otherwise they kept to themselves.
Hyejin looked at Nia giving her an enthusiastic smile. "Hey, Nia. How are you, it's been a while." Sam gave Nia a two fingered salute, trying as hard as possible to maintain his aloofness. No matter situation Sam was in, he always tried to appear as calm as possible, even if he was finally talking to one of his closest friends for the first time in months.
Nia gave the couple an awkward smile, obviously feeling uncomfortable talking to her old friends again. "I've been... good. How about you?" Nia, started to play with her hair, trying not to show how nervous she was.
At first there was silence, as if Hyejin had to work up the courage to say anything else. In Hyejin's mind she thought Nia would just storm off whenever she tried to talk to her but now Nia was here, right in front of her and Hyejin didn't know what to say.
Hyejin cleared her throat, obviously trying to answer Nia's question without giving away just how much she wanted to talk to her old friend about. "I've been good too, thanks for asking."
Nia mumbled something under her breath and then there were a few more moments of silence before Sam opened his mouth to speak as he pointed to the gift in Nia's hands.
"I-Is that a gift for Liam?" He asked, his voice cracking a bit at the end of his sentence. Nia nodded and fumbled forward with the box in her hands, giving the gift to Sam. Then she stepped back, continuing to play with her hair.
Kane sighed, and finally got tired of just standing there, waiting for this embarrassing conversation to end. "Can we go in now, if that's okay with you?"
Hyejin and Sam's gazes snapped towards Kane, who had been so quiet that the couple almost forgot he was there.
"Of course you can. Enjoy the party." Hyejin and Sam gave them both one last smile and then stepped aside to let them through.
"Thank you, we will." Kane smiled and walked down the hallway, making sure to be far enough away from Hyejin and Sam before he spoke to Nia.
"That was awkward as hell." He whispered in her ear as they rounded a corner.
"Tell me about it." She muttered under her breath as they started to see people who were littered around that part of the hallway glaring them. "But that doesn't matter now, Kane. We made it in! Now all we have to do is wait about an hour till midnight and then we're good."
They entered the gigantic, almost gymnasium size living room to see nothing but pure chaos, the loud music that they had heard from the hallway now filled their ears and threatened to make them bleed. And there were people dancing all over the place while some just sat on the couches talking but most of them were either all over the edges of the room or taking part in the gigantic mosh pit in the center of the room. There were probably hundreds of people at the party in total, leaving Kane to wonder how anyone could throw a party like this. The mess Liam is going to have to clean up after this will be of epic proportions.
"This is going to be so bad." Kane groaned, as he looked at the teenager running amuck all over the enormous room.
"I don't think it'll be that bad ." Nia tried to shout over the music so that Kane could hear her. "And besides if you think this is bad you should've been there when Thomas turned 16. It was ten times worse than this." She patted him on the back and started pulling him to wear the drinks were.
"We might as well have some fun to pass the time! Come on!"
Oh, great...

Hyejin
As Hyejin watched Kane and Nia walk away, she couldn't help but notice how weird it was that they were at the party. Usually they didn't even want to be seen near them, let alone actually go where they would have to interact with them.
"Don't you think it's kind of weird that Kane and Nia showed up to Liam's party?" Hyejin asked Sam as he stood there, wondering the same thing.
"Hyejin, can't you at least give people the benefit of the doubt once? Maybe they're here for the free food and alcohol. People don't need to have an ulterior motive for everything." Sam sighed as his mate got a devious look in her eyes, he could tell she was plotting.
"But it is weird, though. Liam despises Kane and Nia would never willingly put herself in a position where she'd have to interact with us. And yet she showed up to Liam's birthday party with a gift." She gestured to the perfectly wrapped box Sam was holding in his hands.
"She gave us gifts for our birthdays too." Sam reminded her, trying to not listen to her somewhat logical reasoning. But Hyejin was almost always right about these sort of things, and Sam almost always listens to her anyway.
"She mailed them to us, she never showed up to our birthday parties. Nia wrote us notes and sent us texts, and it doesn't seem like she's here for Liam. She didn't even ask about him." Hyejin crossed her arms and turned to him, giving him a smile that made his face feel hot, even if they were in the middle of a petty squabble.
"Okay, okay fine. Even if they were up to something, we still don't know what it could be and I doubt it's important."
Sam shrugged, in his mind he didn't really care about Nia's motives. He hadn't talked to her in months, they occasionally texted each other when he worked up the courage but that's about it.
"It doesn't matter what she plans to do here. We haven't talked to her in months. Come on, let's go back to the others."He held his hand in hers and led her down the hallway, turning a corner in the opposite direction towards the stairs.
"But can't we at least follow them first and then go to our friends?" Hyejin pouted ant stopped by the stairs, obviously sad that she couldn't follow them and figure out whatever they were planning.
"No, lets go to our friends for now. If you still feel like you can find out later." He kissed her and then led her up the stairs as she giggled.
"You just want to brag that we got a chance to talk to Nia." Hyejin said, with a small smile on her face when she thought about how the rest of their friends would react. They would be so shocked.
"You know me so well."Sam smiled and kissed her on the nose, feeling satisfied when she blushed a bit. The pair quickly walked up the stairs and and went to Liam's bedroom where Enesta and Thomas were hanging out with him.
They opened the door and walked in to see their friends talking and laughing. None of them even bothered to look at the door to see who walked in, they didn't care.
"Hey guys! We're back." Hyejin got little to no responses from them, Thomas half-heartedly waved while Enesta nodded at them but Liam didn't acknowledge their presence. Then they just continued their conversation, as if they weren't interrupted.
Sam sighed, as if he didn't expect anything different. He looked at the gift for Liam in his hand and decided to throw it. That would surely gain their attention.
"Heads up!" Sam tossed Nia's gift at Liam, who caught it with ease. Liam looked at the box in bewilderment, not expected the object thrown at him to be a perfectly wrapped gift.
"Woah! I didn't know you bought me two gifts, thank you so much Sam." Hyejin snorted and sat down on the couch next to Sam, who decided to make himself comfortable by putting his feet up on the table.
"He didn't. Nia bought it for you." The way Hyejin casually said it had everyone except for Sam immediately stop what they were doing.
Liam snapped his head up from the gift to look at Hyejin, not really believing what she said. "Are you serious? How do you know that Nia gave this to me?"
Sam rolled his eyes, trying not to show how pleased he was that he gained their attention. "Hyejin and I just spoke to her. She's downstairs." Enesta sat up in the chair, suddenly more interested in what they had to say. "You spoke to Nia?!"
Sam and Hyejin nodded, wondering how many times they would have to repeat themselves before their friends would understand.
Thomas stood up from Liam's bed, seeming way too eager considering the fact that Nia is his ex. "She's here? Right now?" Hyejin nodded, a bit suspicious that he was so impatient about it. "Yes, that's what we just said."
Of course the only time the rest of their friends truly paid attention to Sam and Hyejin was when they mentioned Nia. It is and will always been annoying for the couple, and at this point they almost wished that they kept that piece of information to themselves.
"She's downstairs with Kane, he showed up too." Sam snickered when Liam scoffed and put down the gift. Obviously upset by the news of Kane being at his party.
"Why is he here? No one wants him around."
Enesta hit him upside the head, trying to smack some sense into him. "Nia wants him around. And you should be grateful, if Kane hadn't agreed to go with her she probably wouldn't be here. They're a package deal, remember?"
Liam stood up, rubbing the back of his head as he did. "I know that. But that doesn't mean I have to like it. I'm going downstairs." He started towards the door, not waiting for the rest to follow him.
"But what about your grand entrance? And besides I thought you got tired of the people after 10:30." Hyejin said with a laugh, still not over Enesta hitting Liam.
He shrugged, beckoning Thomas to come with him. "I am tired of the party but," he said this while elongating the last word to add emphasis, "it's almost midnight anyways. And I want to thank Nia for the gift. Follow the birthday boy!" Liam walked out of his bedroom, urging his friends to follow him.
Sam sighed, not wanting to get up from the couch. "Do we have to go?"
Thomas shrugged, "I'm gonna go, we might as well all be there." Then him and Enesta walked out the door, leaving Sam and Hyejinbehind.
"This is gonna be a very... interesting night." Hyejin muttered under her breath, getting up from the couch and pulling Sam along with her.
"Yup. It will be extremely interesting."
Here's another chapter of my book. Sorry that I don't have a concrete updating schedule but I'm lazy. This chapter may seem like filler to you but it's actually important to me. I need to show how all of the characters interact with each and so far you guys haven't seen much of Sam and Lynn. The next chapter will probably be way longer and focus more on Kane and Liam. See ya on the flipside!
P.S - I think my writing is finally improving. Thank God
