Nia

"Wait a minute! The bookshelf turned to ash?!" Kane ran a hand through his hair as Nia told him what had happened to her in the archives. They were hanging out in his room extremely drained from Liam's birthday party. Nia was laying down on the bed while Kane was pacing back and forth, worried about Nia's nonchalance.

"Yeah, but Hyejin saved me! And I'm fine now, my vision is a bit spotty but overall I'm okay. You don't have to be worried." Kane say down on the bed, still worried. Nia patted him on the shoulder, purposely trying to hide her bandaged hand so he wouldn't pay too much attention to it. But it didn't work, all he could do was worry about her injury.

"Tell that to your injured hand, I knew it was a bad idea to go. I shouldn't have left you alone. I'm so sorry, I should've protected you." Kane sighed, feeling disappointed with himself. One of the main reasons he went with her to the party was so that he could make sure nothing happened to her and he failed, miserably.

"Kane, it's fine. And besides I guarantee that this would've still happened anyway. If you were there you might have gotten hurt too and I wouldn't have wanted that. Please don't feel bad Kane, I'm okay." She smiled at Kane and he just nodded glumly, still feeling bad but hiding it so that Nia wouldn't exhaust herself trying reassure him.

"I'm serious Kane, don't worry about me. I'm fine. Don't beat yourself up about it." Kane nodded again, trying not to show how upset with himself he was but feeling a little better as she reassured him.

"Good, I don't want you to beat yourself up. It's not worth it." Then Nia smiled at him and opened her bag.

"And besides, I got the book!" Nia held the book up in her hand, grinning as she did so. "And we didn't even get caught, the only person who knows is Hyejin and I'll talk to her about it later." Kane laughed as Nia waved the spellbook around, and it amazed him how Nia could be so excited after what had happened to her.

"I can't wait to try out all of these knew spells-" Kane gave Nia a stern look and she immediately back-tracked, remembering what he said about being careful with magic. "I mean, what I meant was to say is that I can't wait to carefully read through the whole book and not do anything unsafe." She winked at him and Kane just sighed, hoping that she won't do anything reckless in the future.

"Nia-"
She held her hands up in surrender, knowing exactly what Kane was going to say. "I know, I know. I'll be careful, I promise. I'm just so excited!" She giggled, so happy to have gotten the book, at first she was scared but what had happened but Kane's presence put her at ease, she was no longer scared anymore. Even if a part of her was still apprehensive, after what happened she had started to understand why Kane had been so worried about her practicing magic. It is extremely dangerous.

Nia put the book back in her bag and scooted closer to Kane, her curiosity peaked.
"By the way, you mentioned earlier that you had something to tell me? What is it Kane? I noticed back at the party that you looked stressed out, what happened to you at the party?"

Kane winced when he thought of his altercation with Liam in the hallway. He still couldn't believe that they were soulmates, what kind of sick joke was the moon goddess playing? "Yeah, about that... I ran into Liam Coleman earlier." Kane coughed and wanted to tug on his collar, to hide the mark on his neck from when Liam had gone insane and decided to give him a love-bite he did not consent to.

"Really? What happened? Did he hurt you?" Nia looked at him worried while Kane was just tired of thinking about Liam already.

"No he didn't hurt me. Although I wish he did, that would've been so much better than what actually happened." Nia looked Kane up and down, analyzing his anxious facial expression. Then she noticed his neck, it wasn't completely visible but she could tell that it was a love bite.

Nia got up from the bed, starting to put two and two together. "Today is Liam's birthday, you have a mark on your neck and it was 12 midnight around an hour ago, just before you called..."

"Holy shit! Wait a minute! Are you and Liam soulmates?" Nia covered her hand over her mouth in shock as Kane groaned and fell back on the bed, still upset by this new development. Then his eyes widened as he sat back up, staring at Nia's shocked face.

"Wait a minute? Did he actually mark me? I thought it was just a hickey." Kane got up from his bed and ran to the bathroom that was in his room to check the mirror. He quickly pulled his collar down to see that the hickey was already rapidly healing, and that wouldn't happen if it was a bond-mark. Kane sighed in relief and walked back to the bed to see Nia now sitting down starring at him, looking extremely worried.

"You're okay right? Do you want to tell me what happened?" Kane laid down across from her on the bed, tired of the universe and it's constant need to screw him over.

"There's not much to tell, I was trying to lead Sam and Hyejin away from you because they were the ones following us when Liam appeared. We argued for a bit until Liam went all crazy and decided to bite me. He even-"

Kane saw Nia sit up straighter, seemingly ready to go and kill Liam herself depending on what Kane said next. "What exactly did he do to you?"

He grimaced as he thought of Liam's lips on his, ruining his night even more than before. "He kissed me."

"Ew, that's gross. I'm so sorry." Nia wrinkled her nose and Kane had to laugh, her expression detailing how he felt perfectly. Nia's eyes sparkled when Kane started laughing at what she said, she was happy that she could cheer him up a bit.

"After he kissed me I ended up pushing him but then he started to touch me again so I slapped him. It was very satisfying."

Nia laughed, a pleased expression on her face. "I bet it was. Now part of me wishes I was there." Kane playfully pushed her and she just giggled.

"Then after that we argued some more and I ended up walking off super angry. Honestly, more than anything else it's an inconvenience. Like, why of all people did it have to be me? I hate Liam so fucking much but now we're mates because of some mystical fucking moon goddess." Kane laid down in Nia's lap and she started to play with his hair.

"I know this is terrible but if it makes you feel any better you could always just try to avoid him. And besides, it's Liam we're talking about, he's not going to try and seek you out anyway. He's probably super embarrassed that his soulmate is a human, just like Thomas."

Kane looked up at Nia to see her with an angry expression on her face. He could that she was upset, this whole entire world puts humans at the bottom of the hierarchy, they are disrespected and devalued and now they're both stuck with soulmates that think just like the rest of society.

"I swear, men are so disappointing... you deserve so much better than this Kane. With everything that you have to deal with, now you have to deal with Liam too." She sighed and Kane just shrugged it off, realizing that there was nothing he could do about at this point, he just needed to either avoid him or convince Liam to reject him.  "Yeah, it sucks but now I guess I'm gonna have to deal with it."

"But you shouldn't have to. That's my whole point. You spend your time protecting and risking your life for a pack that mistreats you on a daily basis. And now on top of that you have to deal with being mates with Liam Coleman of all people! This is bullshit!" Kane sat up to look at Nia, who was very upset on Kane's behalf. While Kane just smiled, flattered to see someone so angry for his sake. It was so foreign to him to have someone that genuinely cared so much, especially since they haven't known each other for a long time.

Nia looked at Kane, confused as to how he could be so happy after what had happened to him. "What? Why are you staring at me like that? Is there something on my face?" But Kane just laughed and ruffled her hair, throughly messing it up. "Nah, theres nothing on your face. Now let's go downstairs and order some pizza. Like I said before, I'll pay." Then he grabbed her arm and pulled her off the bed, determined to forget what had happened with Liam earlier.

Liam

"You kissed him?!" Enesta and Thomas said at the same time, with the same shocked expression on their faces. In Liam's mind they both looked like that painting called the scream. He could understand why they were shocked but it's still weird.

"Yeah... I kissed him." Liam said, as he sat down on his bed. It was about 1 am and he couldn't sleep so he decided to tell his friends about what happened between him and Kane.

"No wonder he slapped you? After what you did you practically deserved it." Enesta said, trying not to glare at her friend.

"Hey! It wasn't my fault, the mate bond was acting up. Don't you think I already know that it was stupid, it's not like I wanted to anyway. This is Kane we're talking about. " Liam said indignantly, getting a somewhat dreamy look on his face when he thought of kissing Kane.

"Did you reject him?" Thomas asked incredulously. "Is that why you don't want us to tell anybody?" Liam didn't understand why Thomas looked so angry at Liam, he wouldn't understand being mated to a human. Hell, Thomas doesn't even have a soulmate, so he wouldn't understand any of it.

"I didn't reject him Thomas, but I am considering it. Kane Zaveri is not my idea of a perfect soulmate, and besides he's human so the rejection won't hurt him." Liam said, not entirely sure that it wouldn't, but at the same time he didn't really care. Even though the idea of hurting Kane made him feel like his heart was being ripped out, but he definitely didn't want him. He couldn't want him, Kane Zaveri was an outcast who was hated by majority of the school. They wouldn't be a good fit.

And he's a human. It would be so embarrassing to be mates with a human, he'd be a laughingstock.

"Liam! What is wrong with you? You know that the mate bond affects humans just as much, especially since you strengthened the bond by kissing him, hell you almost marked him, your body is not going to let you reject him. You know how this works." Enesta glared down at Liam from the spot she had been pacing in just a second ago.

"But I don't want to be with him. And he said himself that he didn't feel the bond" Liam said, all while his friends just ignored his protests.

"You dont want to be with him and yet you kissed him in the middle of a hallway and gave him a hickey. You sure are good at sending mixed signals." Enesta said, trying not to roll her eyes at Liam behavior.

"And Kane probably hadn't felt the bond because he's a human. That or his hatred for you is so strong that it outweighs the mate bond. But that doesn't mean you should reject him." Thomas sat down in a bean bag chair, content on glaring at Liam, disappointed by how his friend seemed to be internally suffering by Kane being his soulmate. But he couldn't say much because they weren't that different when it comes to handling things.

"Well what do you think I should do?" Liam snapped, his mood worsening as the conversation continued. He had been hoping that they would take his side. But instead they're siding with the weak human.

"I think you should accept him. You're gonna end up regretting not treating him right if you don't and once you realize how wrong you were it may be too late to fix the relationship." Thomas said, coughing to hide the emotions in his voice. His words seemed very logical but at the same time it seemed like he was speaking from personal experience. But the only person who noticed this was Enesta.

"See! Thomas is right, I knew there was some common sense it that mind of his." Enesta said with an encouraging smile on her face, directed at Thomas, although the smile didn't reach her eyes, making her expression seem harsher. The look on her face clearly showed that she would be having a talk with Thomas later. He's been hiding a lot of things lately.

"I'll think about it. I just need to sleep on it first. Do you guys realize that I have to have brunch with my parents in the morning?" Then he laid down on his bed face down as Thomas and Enesta exited his room.

"That's good, clear your mind and gain some common fucking sense because you are not rejecting him." Enesta said giving him a nice, bright smile that scared the living daylights out of him.

"Goodnight Liam." They both said as Thomas closed the door and started heading towards their floors in the pack house.

Liam sighed and decided to go to sleep in his regular clothes, too tired to change into his pajamas.

"I'm so fucking screwed."

That's the end of the chapter! I know this was more of a filler but I think it was important to get everyone's reactions about Kane and Liam being mates. Not to mention I feel like writings the characters interactions is very important. That's one of the things I want to emphasize in this book so they'll probably end up being a lot of chapters. Especially since I'm tired of the cliche Wattpad books. Though I'll be surprised if this book does well lmao.
