"Can we talk?"
Ezra walked through the hall of the Ghost slowly, making his way to Kanan's room. He was feeling depressed lately and he knew exactly why. It was that day. That one hopeless day that killed his insides each year.
He came to Kanan's door and hesitantly walked inside. Kanan was sitting on his bed, meditating. Ezra walked in slowly, trying not to startle his master. Kanan opened his eyes and saw Ezra.
"Hey Ezra, wanna meditate with me?" Kanan asks.
Ezra's eyes made there way to his feet. "Actually, um... I wanted to talk to you about something..." He says quietly. Kanan noticed the change in his attitude and uncrossed his legs. He pats the bed, motioning Ezra to sit.
Ezra walks over to the bed and sits down, still looking at the floor. Kanan patiently waits for Ezra to talk. After a few minutes, Ezra speaks.
"It's about...today." Kanan looked at him in a kind/confusion way. "What about today, Ezra?" He asked.
Ezra still stared at the floor, breathing shallow signaling that he's crying. Kanan notices and puts a hand on his back. "It's the day m-my parent's died...my birthday..." Ezra mumbles loud enough for Kanan to hear. Kanan's face melted with sadness and hugged him.
"It's okay Ezra, you have us." Kanan say as Ezra hesitantly hugs back. "I know but..." Ezra mumbles. Kanan pulls back the hug and looks at him.
"But what?" Ezra looks back at the floor and his fists tighten. "It's my fault they're gone! I didn't even try to help, all I did was hide like...like a coward!" Ezra yells and stands up.
"Ezra, why would you think that?" Kanan asks, standing up. Ezra looks dead straight into Kanan's eyes. "It's true! I'm dumb! Stupid! Worthless!" Ezra screams and runs out the room, crying.
"Ezra! Listen! It's not your fault!" Kanan yells as he runs after him.
Ezra had tears running down his face as he accidentally ran into Zeb. He looks and the kid and pushes him down.
"Watch where you're going you stupid kid!" Zeb yells.
Ezra starts to cry even more and ran off faster. Kanan ran past Zeb saying, "Really Zeb? You just had to say that?"
Ezra made his way off the ramp and was now running in the field. Kanan made it off the ramp, after him. Ezra suddenly trips and hits his head on a rock. Blood slowly trickled from the cut. Kanan caught up to him and bent over to pick him up.
"Kanan... just put me down..." Ezra mumbles as Kanan starts to carry Ezra bridal style back to the Ghost. "Why should I?" Kanan asks.
"...Because I don't...deserve it..." Ezra says and falls into unconsciousness. A tear falls down Kanan's face as he looked at the blue-haired boy. "Yes you do."
Kanan makes it back to the Ghost safely and sets Ezra in his bed (Kanan's) to rest. Kanan kisses the top of Ezra's head and whispers in his ear, "You are worth it. " Kanan walks out, hearing Ezra say a quiet,
"Thank you dad."
