Crash Landing pt. 2

Ezra's pov

I couldn't pinpoint what exactly was happening. Everything around me was dark. My eyes were definitely closed, leaving me confused in the darkness.

What is going on?

I groan as I touch my head, trying to rub the throbbing pain away. I was surprised I could even move at all. I felt something wet, even with my eyes closed, I could tell that wasn't a good sign. The small movement of my hands to my head, drained all my remaining strength. Now I just want to go back to sleep and not worry about the pain.

"Ezra....."

The voice sounds familiar. It was comforting to hear something instead of silence. But it would be even more comforting if I knew who it was.

"Ezra wake up...."

I groan again. I'm way too exhausted. Even though I want to see something other than darkness, my mind was telling me to keep my eyes close and go back into oblivion.

"Ezra please......Ezra wake up!!!"

The loud shout made me gasp and my eyes shot open, making my head hurt even more.

I look around with a blurry vision. I couldn't make out anything at first. I smelled something burning, like when Sabine usually makes popcorn for all of us and completely burns it. Kanan would usually force us to eat it after to not make Sabine feel bad that she ruined the popcorn.

Except I knew there was no popcorn being made now. The thought of food makes me hungry in a second.

I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turn to my side and see a blurry figure staring at me, worried. I blink my eyes a couple of times and finally see that its Kanan.

"Kanan?" I say weakly and then start coughing like my lungs were on fire.

I keep coughing like someone was choking me, till I finally stop and take in deep breaths.

"You scared the force out of me, kid." Kanan says. "You wouldn't wake up for awhile."

I finally got a closer look at Kanan. His clothes were ripped up. One of his legs had a big blood stain but didn't look serious. His face had a couple of bruises and cuts. His injured hip looked worse. The bandages were gone, replaced with a piece of his clothing. But the clothing was covered in blood.

"Are you ok?" I ask trying to sit up, but failing at the process.

"I'll live. But you, I'm more concerned about." He says.

I was confused for a second till I looked at myself. My clothes weren't ripped at all and there was no blood. Maybe a few scratches, but I was fine.

Fine turned into awful.

My head started pounding like crazy. My hands went back to my head, holding it in pain.

"What's.....what's happening to me?" I ask in fear.

"It looks like you have a concussion. You also have a deep gash in the back of your head." Kanan tells me.

My hands explore to the back of my head, feeling the same wetness from before, finally seeing bright red on my fingertips. But I also felt bandages.

I didn't even notice my head was wrapped in thick white bandages. We must've had some in the phantom. Wait.....

My gaze shifts to where exactly I am, and I was even more confused than before.

Kanan and I were surrounded by thousands of trees, giving away that we were in a forest. But not like any forest on Lothal. I heard all different kinds of noises. Some were birds, like mockingbirds I once researched when I little. But some were animals that sounded like wolves. Not the best time to meet those creatures.

I looked all around, but still couldn't find the phantom.

"Where's the phantom?" I ask Kanan. The memories were slowly coming back. I remember we were both in the phantom before crashing. But the phantom was nowhere in sight.

He sighs. "The phantom's gone. It got torn apart from the crash and burned into flames."

I gasp. "Hera's going to kill us!!!"

"Don't worry, she will only kill me. This is all my fault anyways." He says looking down in shame.

"Why would you....." I look back at him, cutting myself off seeing his wounded hip. "Are you sure you are ok? I mean, your hip.....where did the bandages go?"

"Well I couldn't save any medical supplies in the phantom and you needed the bandages more than I did so...."

Wait these are his?!?

"What?!? No, Kanan you need these more than I do." I say and was about to take them off my head, till Kanan grabbed my wrists.

"No, Ezra. Your head injury is bad as it is. I had my wound for awhile now so I should be fine." He says.

"Yeah but-"

"You're keeping it on and that's it. I found a river to clean the bandages before giving it to you, so it's good." He says.

"Why couldn't you give me a piece of clothing or something? Like the one you're using?" I ask.

"I told you. You need it more than me. Your wound hasn't healed like mine has been for the past few days. No more discussion, you're keeping it on." Kanan says.

I growl. "Fine, you win. I'll keep it on."

He smiles for only a second before frowning again, seeing my struggle to get off the ground. He then grabs my arm and lifts me gently to my feet. I was having trouble keeping balance, but I leaned my back against a nearby tree and rubbed my forehead.

"Ow, I'm going to need a minute....." I say as I try to get myself together. "You could go on without me, I'll be here."

"I'm not leaving you here alone with a concussion. You could get yourself killed." Kanan tells me.

"What do you think I would do? Try to kiss a wolf?" I ask, jokingly.

"No." He sighs. "Just stay close to me at all times. I have no idea where we are, so I don't want you to get lost."

I rub my head a little more and finally get the aching to go away, for now. "Ok, I'm good to go."

We both then start walking through the trees and bushes. I'm not sure where we are going, pretty sure Kanan doesn't know either. But as long as we find some food and shelter, we could figure everything out.

I look up at the sky, seeing that the sun was starting to go down, meaning it would get dark soon. Hopefully we find shelter before night falls.

"How exactly did we make it out of the crash?" I ask Kanan, trying to make a conversation.

He shrugs. "It was rough, but I was able to get both of us out of the phantom before it lit up on fire."

I nod, but a small one to not trigger any headaches. "How long was I out for?"

"A day." Kanan says, not making eye contact with me.

My eyes widen. "That long? Really?"

"I was worried you wouldn't wake up at all." Kanan says. I couldn't imagine what he was thinking while I was unconscious for a day. He must've been a complete mess not knowing if I was ok while stranded on this planet.

"Did you get a chance to contact the Ghost for help?" I ask hoping he did.

Sadly, he shakes his head. "There's no way I could've done that without any devices or service."

I sigh. "So how are we getting out of here?"

I could tell Kanan didn't know how to answer that. So I didn't ask anymore questions. We walked in silence for awhile, until we spotted a cave. I sigh in relief to find a place to rest. My legs were killing me.

"Stay here, I'm going to make sure it's safe." He orders and goes inside the dark cave.

He didn't let me have the chance to say I wanted to go in with him. So I waited for him to come out.

It was getting dark outside fast. Luckily we found this cave for shelter. I've learned from my times on the streets, if you weren't inside after dark, bad things were going to happen. But I doubt there would be any gangs in this forest, animals for sure, and that's all we need to worry about.

Kanan then comes out of the cave. "All clear."

I go inside without saying anything, collapsing to the ground. I don't know how long we were walking for, but I'm already tired.

"I'm exhausted." I say, almost not able to get the words out.

"You should get some sleep. I'll keep watch." Kanan says. Before I could say anything, I saw him wince from something, like he was in pain.

"You ok?" I ask. He simply nods, and doesn't tell me anything else. I could tell he was tired too.

I felt bad making Kanan stay awake. I'm not sure if he got to sleep at all after the crash. Maybe I could convince him to rest.

"Don't you think you should sleep too?" I ask.

"I'm fine." He says while yawning. "I'm not tired."

I raise my eyebrow. "Yeah right. Just go to sleep. I'm sure we'll last the night."

"It's not just that. I want to find a way to get some kind of signal to Hera. We need help to come right away." Kanan says.

I laid there in silence, not sure how else I could convince him to sleep. I was about to give up, till suddenly a memory from before the crash comes rushing into my brain, making me gasp in surprise.

"What's wrong?" Kanan asks in concern. "More headaches?"

I shake my head. "No, I......I completely forgot. I sent a distress signal to the Ghost before we crashed, like you told me to."

That makes Kanan sit up more. "You did? Are you sure the signal got sent to Hera?"

"Yes, I'm positive." I say. "But I'm not sure if it had our location on this planet."

"If not, they will still know we need help and will find us soon enough." He says, hopeful.

"How long do you think that will be?" I ask.

"The most, a couple of days." Kanan says. "Maybe a week."

I sigh. I wish there was another way to be saved earlier. Who knows how dangerous this forest really is. But what if they didn't get the signal? We could be stuck here longer than a week. Also, both of us are injured. If we don't get medically treated in a matter of time, I'm not sure how long we will last.

Kanan sees the expression on my face and puts a hand on my shoulder. "They'll find us. We'll survive this."

I nod and rub my eyes. "Still tired. Please just go to sleep, Kanan. You gave me bandages you needed so you should rest."

"I know, but I still think I should keep watch." He says.

"Ok, then I'll join you. I was asleep for a whole day so now I could annoy you all night with my very interesting dream I had on." I shifted myself a little to sit next to Kanan. "It all started with me looking in the mirror, seeing myself as a girl. I had longer hair and makeup. You were in the dream too, and yes you were a girl too......and Hera was a guy-"

"You know what? A few hours of sleep wouldn't hurt." He says.

"I knew that would get to you." I say, while both of us lay down.

"Not the best time to have this talk but that was strange, kid. I mean really? Hera was a guy?" Kanan asks.

"I made up that whole thing. And yes, I know it was weird to say, but at least you won't stay awake the whole night." I say.

He sighs. "What am I going to do with you, Ezra?"

I wanted to stay up just a little bit more. Talking to Kanan like we weren't trapped on a planet with no supplies, made me feel better and more hopeful. But the second I closed my eyes, I was out like a light.
