Parents Day
Summary: UA holds its first parents day, and the Kaminari family is not what anyone expected.
A\N: This one was highly requested, and I tried my best to mix all of the ideas into one story. Also, I broke three of my fingers being stupid so this was a joy to write.
Kaminari never listened to the announcements in class, but this particular one caught his attention. Aizawa stood in the front of the room, his yellow sleeping bag slung over his shoulders as he stared at the class with an almost bored look. After the bell rung, the class fell silent, swivling around in their chairs to face the front.
Kaminari gave Kirishima an enthusiastic fist bump before turning back to face the teacher. He reached out to mindlessly stroke Ojiro's tail, who didn't even spare him a second glance, letting the blonde get out his fidgets.
Normally Denki would zone out by now, but after a minute of silence Aizawa finally cleared his throat before speaking. "UA will be holding its first parents day next wednesday."
There was a pause before most of the students looked to each other, already chatting happily about their parents and homelife. The pencil in Kaminari's hand almost snapped under the pressure of his tense fist. Ojiro pulled his tail back, shooting Kaminari a questioning look.
Denki felt stupid. He expected to just waltz through his time at UA without his dad getting involved at all. Now that they were at the dorms, the abuse was reduced, but those weekends when he was forced to go to back to the apartment were hell.
His father was a huge drunk, he took any chance he could to get his hands around a beer bottle. Half of the time that said beer bottles glass peaces ended up embedded into Kaminari's skin. His mom left him at a young age, but it was his fault for being so slow. Denki was surprised that his father could even afford the apartment.
"Bro!" Kirishima grabbed his shoulder, twisting his body around so he could see his shark toothed grin. " I can't wait for you to meet my moms! They're awesome! "
Kaminari gave him his own tight smile, anxiety bubbling at the bottom of his stomach.
"Any questions?" Their homeroom teacher asked over the loud chattering. Kaminari didn't know what possessed him to raise his hand, surprising even himself when he did. Apparently the other students were also suprised, though Denki never really did ask questions.
He bit the bottom of his lip, leg bouncing under his desk as he pointedly avoided the stares. "Yes, Kaminari?" The teacher asked with a carefully arched eyebrow.
" U-umm, my Father will be out of the country. " He cursed his stammering, Still ignoring the glances in his direction.
"If one of your guardians is not free then you may invite a sibling or grandparent."
I don't have anyone else, is what Kaminari wanted to comment, but he bit back his reply and forced his hand down to his side.
"Bro, where's your dad going?" Eijiro asked in nothing but pure curiosity, though Denki could feel himself going on the defense, inner walls building up.
"I don't know bro. He works this whack job where he doesn't know where he's going until he's there." He worked crummy shifts at the gas station.
From next to him Jiro snorted "you sure he doesn't leave the country to get away from your grades? " And ow, that one hurt. Especially because that was the reason his mom left. The hurt in Kaminari's eyes must have betrayed his playful demenor, because Jiro softly apologized, turning away to talk with Momo.
After class, Aizawa called Kaminari up to his desk while the rest of the students filed out. "Kaminari, I'm going to need to contact your parents to ensure that someone can take their place."
Denki decided not to correct him on the plural 'parents. '
The blonde swallowed thickly before nodding. Not that it mattered, Aizawa was already grabbing the flip phone from his desk, passing it to Kaminari so he could dial his father's number.
Denki held the phone up to his ear, fingers shaking slightly, hoping that his dad wouldn't pick up. He never picked up before, so why would he now? His luck was shit, because he answered after the fifth ring.
"Who the hell is this?"
Kaminari cringed at his dad's slurred mutterings. He did not sound in the least bit sober. "Hey dad, it's me. My teacher needs to talk to you real quick."
"The hell did you do this time?" Kaminari could almost smell the alcohol through the phone as he passed it back to his teacher.
" Yes, this is Aizawa. " A pause. Aizawa only furrowed his eyebrows before he continued with his introduction. "I assumed you got my email about the upcoming parents day? Yes."
Kaminari held his breath as Aizawa listened to whatever drunk ramblings his dad was going on about. " Uhuh. Yes, so you can make it? " Another beat of silence. "Understood, have a good day Mr.Kaminari, goodbye. " He ended the call, slipping his phone into his suits pocket.
"So, was his trip cancled?" Denki asked, letting out a nervous chuckle.
" I assume so. Go get changed for hero course before your counted as late. " Kaminari nodded, making his leave. Whatever his Father said, he wasn't able to tell by his teachers empty reactions.
The rest of the week flew by in a blurr, failed test, bakusquad hangouts, a fist to fist conversation with his Father, the normal. All until he woke up that Wednesday. Everyone was up considerably earlier than normal, Sato cooked breakfast for all of the class, who bustled around the common room in glee.
Of course, Kaminari was the last one down, even when he normally was the first, his electrical quirk never let him sleep in for long. Well, he didn't sleep at all that night. Before he could turn the corner to the boys restroom next to the Kitchen, Mina yelled out her greeting.
Kaminari turned around, toothbrush in hand and eyebags weighing him down.
"Whoa dude, you don't look too good." Sero announced loudly as their little friend group approached him.
" Yeah, I don't feel too good either, " Kaminari carded his fingers through his tossled hair. Kirishima frowned, meeting eyes with Bakugo. "Do you need to go lay back down?"
If Kaminari was in the mood, he would be touched by his friends worry, but instead he put on his bright smile. "Nah, I'm good. A shower will help."
A shower did not help.
Kaminari gazed around the classroom, his sleep deprived mind blurring the images together. Parents were already arriving, students running up to hug them with big smiles. Some students he didn't even know had the ability to be happy were laughing in their family's presence.
Denki begged to whatever God was up there that his dad would not show. He was probably waking up from his drunken haze at that very moment. Probably.
Well, at least he wouldn't be alone. Most people's parents showed, but Todoroki trailed around behind Midoriya, who was talking with his mom, a radiant smile grew on the boys face as he hugged his mom.
Kaminari learned not to become jealous of other people's familys, because he reassured himself that he could have it so much worse. At least he had a roof over his head, and he may not have the most... Loving... Dad, but there were few good memories from his childhood. At least he had those to cling onto.
"Hey, Kami!" A hand grabbed his elbow, pulling him up from his seat. Kaminari blinked the tiredness from his eyes as he looked at Kirishima . "My mom's are here!" He stepped aside to reveal two women, Eijiro turned to his mom's " this is Kaminari! The one I was telling you about! "
Kaminari held out his hand, stomping away the dark feelings that rose in his gut. "Nice to meet you!" Instead of a handshake Like he was expecting, one of them pulled him into a warm hug. At first Denki was stiff from shock, but his muscles loosened when she pulled away with her own shark toothed smile. Well, now he knew where Kirishima got his welcoming personality.
An elbow hit Denki's ribs, he relaxed his tense shoulders when he realized it was only Bakugo, who stared down at him with a weird look in his eyes. "Tch, this is the old hag," he gestured half heartedly to his mom, who was basically the female version of him.
Mitsuki frowned as she whacked Bakugo upside the head, lecturing him on manners. The woman turned back to him, grabbing Kaminari's hand to shake with her surprisingly soft hands.
More students introduced Kaminari to their parents and siblings, he plastered on his greeting smile, saying hello to all of them in the happiest tone he could muster. Few gave him pitying looks and asked him where his parents were, but he waved them off, telling them that they were running late.
"It appears that you are all well acquainted," Aizawa yelled over the noise, sipping from his coffee mug. His usually unruly black hair was pulled back in a bun, making Kaminari do a double take. "Now, we will not be holding normal classes today, but we will be having a school tour and you will get to oversee your child's hero exercises during hero course. You may sign in at the front here. "
The parents moved to sign their names on the clipboard on the podium, the class still chatting animatedly. That is, until Kaminari's father walked in.
All conversation came to a halt as heads swivled to the doorway to see the tall, muscular man. His dark hair slicked back, yellow lightning bolt barley noticeable. His dull golden eyes swept across the room before landing on Kaminari. Well, at least he didn't look drunk, even if he was at his worst while not intoxicated.
A suffocating silence settled in the room as he closed the door behind him, turning to Aizawa. "Sorry I'm late, there was an... Emergency."
Emergency? Denki didn't remember anyone ever telling him something about an emergency.
Aizawa studied the man under a critical gaze "I assume your Mr.Kaminari?"
As they talked Kirishima whispered into Kaminari's ear "dude, he looks nothing like you! He's so serious!" Denki had to agree with his red headed friend, from all of the pictures he saw of his family, he got his looks from his mom. From her vibrant hair to her small stature.
Katsuki and Mitsuki both looked at his father with calculating eyes, it was a little unsettling. Soon the class broke back into their normal chatter, some looking back and forth from Kaminari and his Father with perplexed faces.
A cold, beefy hand wrapped around the back of Kaminari's neck, snapping him away from his deep thought. His sleepiness was quickly replaced with a growing fear. "Denki," his father roughly greeted, fingers tightening ever so slightly around the back of his neck. Kaminari got the message, don't resist.
" If you'll excuse us, I need to have a chat with my son. " His Father waved at Aizawa, already leading him out of the room before the teacher could say anything. Without a word he roughly jerked him through the hallway and into the next empty room.
"I can't believe you made me come here," the man hissed as he threw the door shut. Without warning, he slammed Kaminari into the wall with unrivaled force. Kaminari tasted blood, feeling a steady stream trickle from his nose.
His father turned him around, slamming his back into the wall with twice the amount of force as he did his first blow. Denki saw stars as the back of his head harshly bounced off of the chalkboard behind him.
At first Kaminari was quiet, but he couldn't hold back a pained yelp as a knee was sent to his ribs, knocking the air from his lungs. He was double now, black dots dancing at the edge of his vision as multiple blows were sent his way.
The occupants in the 1-A classroom looked around, confusion written on their faces. There were pained noises coming from the next room over, but it couldn't have been a villain attack...
Katsuki and Eijiro were the first to react, connecting the dots together as they flew past the doorway. Aizawa followed them in quick haste, yelling over his shoulder for the rest of them to stay put.
Kirishima bulldozed past the locked door, Bakugo jumping over him to blindly attack whatever was in the room. "Get the fuck off of him!" The ash blonde seethed as he tackled the man to the floor. Kirishima immediatly rushed to Kaminari's side, who leaned heavily against the wall, letting out a few broken wheezes.
Aizawa stood between his two students and the man, eyes flashing red as he canceled out the man's quirk before he could electrocute Bakugo, wrapping both of them up in his capture wepon.
Katsuki twitched around angrily in the scarfs hold, eyes glaring daggers at Kaminari's father. "Go, take him to recovery girl. "
Aizawa didn't have to tell Kirishima twice, he already hefted Kaminari onto his back, running past the worried students who didn't follow orders and stay in the classroom.
Denki didn't know how long he sat in the uncomfertable plastic chair, holding an ice pack to his eye as he sobbed into Eijiro's shoulder. Recovery girl came in at some point to heal his bruised ribs, placing a bandage over his swollen cheek. He didn't have the energy to thank her, too emotionally exhausted to do anything but whimper pitifully as his friend held him.
Too many thoughts rushed through his head. He was just embarrassingly exposed to his class about what a shitty home life he had. He didn't want their pitying looks, he didn't want to be treated any diffrent.
Where would go now? His mom would be a challenge to find, and if she was deemed unfit, then he had no what else to go. Soon enough he calmed down enough to steady his erratic breathing, him and Kirishima sat in relative silence as the red head hummed a soft tune.
The door to the infirmary swung open, revealing Katsuki- wait, that was Mitsuki.
"Kirishima, your mom's are letting you come back with us." Kirishima raised his eyebrows in confusion, still rubbing slow circles into Denki's back. The woman then turned to Kaminari, her sharp crimson gaze meeting his gold.
"You too kid. Come on, your staying with us. "
