Reigen's POV:

My name is Reigen Arataka.

And I've done some pretty stupid things.

All around Salt Middle School, I'm known as the school's "easy bait". All the taller and stronger kids like to poke fun at me and even beat me up sometimes. I do my best to fight back, but they never take me seriously. It's a little difficult getting through school because of this.

I would say I have no friends, but that would be an obvious lie. I have two friends that I consider to be my family.

Their names are Katsuya Serizawa and Y/n L/n.

Serizawa is the timid one out of the three of us, while Y/n is mostly rational. I am the reckless one, which is something they both don't fully appreciate.

I think I have a good relationship with the both of them. Although, I'm just slightly closer with Y/n than Serizawa. Y/n and I have this amazing duo-like relationship where I'm the one always getting in trouble, and Y/n has to get me out of it. Y/n has always been there for me in times of great need, even if she doesn't need to be. Like I've said before, I've done a lot of stupid things.

There was one day that I had really screwed up. And I mean- really screwed up.

"Arataka!" Ryuu Ose barked.

I turned my head to face the bully. "What do you want, Ose? I'm kinda busy here."

I wasn't busy. I was only hanging around outside. Ose didn't seem to buy it at all.

"A little birdie told me you've been going around talking crap about me," Ose growled.

"Who? Saburo?" I chuckled. "Saburo's the biggest lier in this entire school."

"Somehow, I highly doubt it," Ose scoffed. "You've probably lied more times than I can count."

"So..." I did the math. "Seven."

Ose's cheeks flushed red with anger. "I can count higher than seven, you moron!"

"Is that so?" I teased. "I clearly don't expect a lot from you, then."

Ose clutched the collar of my uniform jacket in his meaty fist, then raised me up to his level. "How dare you insult me like that, Arataka! I'm gonna pound you into the ground- right here, right now."

"B-but I'm busy!" I pleaded.

"To me, it looks like you're not doing anything important." Ose tossed me aside like I was a pathetic animal. "Let's get this over with."

I jumped up to my feet and proceeded to roll up my sleeves. "Do your worst."

Ose cracked his knuckles. "You bet."

With every attack Ose attempted to lay on me, I did my best to dodge them to the best of my abilities. However, my success didn't last long when my Ose caught sight of my movements becoming slower. He took advantage of that and eventually landed all his punches on me.

I was slowly becoming more weary and weak as the beating progressed. I knew I couldn't call for help. It was pointless and humiliating. Besides, I needed to finish my own battles.

"Hey, what do you think you're doing?" a familiar voice hollered.

I could feel my face grow pale.

Y/n was here.

"Why don't you mind your own business, Little Lady? I'm in the middle of something here," Ose snapped back.

"He just so happens to be my friend, so it is indeed my business," Y/n argued. "Stop hurting him this instant!"

Ose took a quick kick to the place it hurts most, leaving me to moan in agony on the ground. "I can hurt whoever I want, even if that means you."

"You're gonna hurt me?" Y/n scoffed. "Guys who beat up girls are the biggest losers in the world."

"Oh, you're gonna start calling me names now?" Ose accused. "I'm not anything close to a loser."

"I know the names of some people who can make you look like one," Y/n warned, making herself look taller. She placed her hands on her hips and scowled at Ose, making him cower down a little.

"Fine!" Ose snapped. "I'll leave! Sheesh!"

Ose stormed away, and Y/n ran over to check up on me, who was still dying over by the school building.

"Rei, are you ok?" she asked.

I could feel myself go red at the use of my nickname. I pushed myself up so I was in a seated position. "Yeah, I'm- I'm fine."

Y/n then cupped my cheeks, catching me off guard. "You are a menace, and you almost died back there if it wasn't for me."

"I know, I know," I mumbled, brushing Y/n's hands off my face. "I thought I had the situation handled."

"Well, clearly you didn't." Y/n sighed as she brushed a strand of her hair out of her face. "I don't know what to do with you sometimes."

"You could start by not worrying about me so much," I suggested. "I'll be just fine without your constant nagging."

Y/n puffed her cheeks in annoyance. "Would you have rather gotten beaten to a bloody pulp instead, Reigen?"

I waved my hands in front of me lightly. "Woah, N/n, there's no need to get upset at me!"

"Then how am I supposed to feel when you get into these situations?" Y/n countered. "I'm not allowed to be worried or upset?!"

I began to panic a little internally. "Hey, hey, I never said that! Would... would you feel better if you patched me up?"

Y/n stopped fuming when she heard my offer. She always found some comfort when she was given the chance to clean up my wounds. "Yeah, that'll help."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As soon as I set foot inside Y/n's house, she did the honors of offering me a chair and rushing to get her first aid kit. While I waited, I allowed my curious eyes to examine the dining room, quietly humming at each interesting thing I spotted. Her house wasn't much different than how it had been the last time I visited, but even I could notice the small changes.

"Alright, let's see what we're dealing with." Y/n entered the room, carrying her family's first aid kit in her arms. She pulled up a chair and sat facing me. There was a determined flicker in her e/c eyes as she held up a rubbing alcohol covered cotton ball to my face. "Hold still, ok?"

I nodded, then immediately wincing at the sting the rubbing alcohol provided. Y/n didn't seem to notice and continued to disinfect the various cuts scattered around my face. She even checked to see how many bruises I had collected. My heart raced every time she touched my arms.

"Is everything ok, Rei?" Y/n inquired. "You look really nervous, and you're starting to feel tense."

"Am I?" I was bluffing, of course.

"If anything's bothering you, I'm all ears," Y/n promised.

She was about to pull out some bandages when I blurted out the first dumb thing that came to my mind.

"Could you kiss my bruises to make them feel better?"

Y/n's head snapped up at the question. Her face was bright red. "Huh?"

I could feel my own face go red as I repeated the question. "C-Could you... kiss m... my bruises? Please?"

What is wrong with me?! I screamed internally.

"Uh-um, sure..." Y/n gently raised my left arm up so she could get a good view of my bruises. With an expression that said "Help me!", she pressed her lips against the first bruise, then moved on to all the other ones. I was practically dying of embarrassment in my seat. How could I torture her like this?!

"Look, Y/n, I'm sor-" I began.

Y/n interrupted me. "I-If you want... I can kiss anything else that hurts."

My eyes widened. Was she being serious?

"O-oh, well..." I began to think deviously. "My forehead hurts a little."

"Ok." Y/n bent forward and kissed my forehead. I was feeling pure bliss.

"My cheek kinda hurts, too..."

Y/n kissed my cheek as well.

Now came the time to test Y/n's boundries...

"Y/n?"

"Yes?"

"My lips-"

Y/n didn't hesitate. She cupped my cheeks and smacked her lips onto mine. I could feel Y/n's body heat radiating onto my skin- or maybe that was mine. I wasn't sure.

Once the kiss ended, I was disappointed she pulled away so quickly. I was hoping our kiss would be longer. Y/n looked so embarrassed.

"I-I'm sorry, Reigen. I shouldn't have-"

"It's ok, N/n," I assured. "That's what I was going for."

Y/n's eyes widened. "You were?"

I nodded, a smirk visible on my face. My chest loosened up once Y/n began to smile too.

"That felt... nice," Y/n chuckled bashfully.

"I thought so too," I agreed. "You're a great kisser."

Y/n playfully shoved my shoulder. "Shut up, Rei! It was only a peck."

"Well, do you wanna try again?" I shrugged.

Y/n hesitated briefly then relaxed a bit, staring deep into my eyes. "Yeah."
